would totally do this old lady if his wife were guaranteed not to find out

Uh... I'm terribly confused.

Hehe.. it was given to me in an old-fashioned tag-handout thread. The title was weird, I clicked it, and told them what had happened at work. Bishop gave it me; I was honored, haha!

At work yesterday, I got a marriage proposal from a 64-year-old woman who was in, umm, an "altered mental status."

I went to pick her up from her room for an MRI, and her two daughters were waiting there with her. She expressed some fear of the machine, which led me to do my aww-shucks-it'll-all-be-OK-lemme-hold-your-hand routine. Taken with emotion, she looked into my eyes and asked, "You're so wonderful. Will you marry me?"

My response: "I can't. I'm already happily taken."

Her daughters laughed, finding the whole thing adorable.

Her next question: "Does she treat you right?"

My response: "I'm treated well, yes."

So we get her into the wheelchair and go to the elevator, leaving her daughters to wait in her hospital room. As soon as the door closes, she asks the question again, but with different emphasis, and a suggestive wink/smile combo:
"So.. does she TREAT you RIGHT? Eh.. eh?"

Her smiling, predatory now eyes darted back-and-forth from my eyes, to my crotch, and back to my eyes again.

My response: "He treats me very well. I'm a lucky, lucky man."

Her grumbling reaction: "Well, SHIT! Now I really know I don't have a shot!"

(edit: and she kinda resembled Jessica Tandy, but with insane-bag-lady hair.)

My co-workers swear that I have a superpower where I can charm the pants off of little old ladies.. :)

Pic series of me (in white cap), HylianGreg (my partner of 15 years), and Jake:

That's an awesome story...

Did this old lady have "Batteries Not Included" stamped on her ass? ;)

Lol I miss Jessica Tandy :(

I do too! I had a dream one time where I put-on Entertainment Tonight and saw a report that she and Wilford Brimley were all coked-up/drunk and in a high-speed chase with the cops. Brimley was wearing a wife-beater and she was wearing a trashy-looking négligé..

I'm normally pretty liberal with a few notable conservative traits (love guns, love castle law, hate Kelo v. New London), but over the past decade I've slowly become a real pessimist about humanity's fate. Gay rights progress is nice and all, but the triple-threat of unsustainable energy/environment/finance practices will render those issues insignificant. My hope for the federal govt to act adequately is incredibly slim, so my focus has turned to personal and local efforts to mitigate the feds' failures.

You know I can respect the fact that people have different opinion on how countries should be run. Coming from France, there are a lot of things in the US that I still find baffling when it comes to welfare, healthcare, gun laws and religion.
It's no surprise that I have pretty socialist views on the role of government and it makes total sense that most Americans don't share my views given the way this country was created and came to be what it is now.

However to me the biggest issues in any elections are social policies. I believe that it's the only thing that can really change depending on who's in office. The economy, the jobs, military spending and the likes fluctuate and will certainly have an impact in my day to day life, but not as much as what a federal recognition of gay marriage, protection from discrimination in the workplace (ie. not being able to be fired for being gay) and hate crime laws would have on my life.

Don't get me wrong though, I also think that dealing with energy production and the environment as well as reforming the economy and financial institutions are all important. I just think that we should be able to tackle all of them at the same time and not focus on a single issue at a time.

Absolutely. I live in a deep red state where it's legal for employers to fire folks for sexual orientation. If one of us were hospitalized, we wouldn't have visitation rights. I don't have access to VA spouse benefits that we'd normally receive. Totally repugnant. But I'd just love to see issues of sustainability not ignored to such a ridiculous point, as the consequences will be quite ugly.

That said, if I were a single man, I wouldn't ever begin to consider dating a Republican voter; I feel that strongly about it. As much as I may sympathize with them on a handful of issues, I'm not willing to sell the civil rights of others up the river. That, and if humanity does have a precipitous decline, I really don't like the idea of GOP court appointees making monumental decisions in the civil rights & police powers arenas. Scary!

I am in favor with your views. I'd describe myself as a liberal, who skews in favor of light socialism vs. capitalism. I lean toward FDR style isolationism, as well, in terms of world view.

Often I believe that the good of the people, the good of society as a whole - is reliant on all social structures - Rich to poor, firing on all cylinders. There has to be protections and limitations (regulations), in force to assure all classes and all citizens have equal footing, in terms of the law. It cannot be the all powerful, rich magnate at the top deciding the fates of and influencing for those below. It then becomes a stacked deck....
I'd like to see our citizens cared for better- by our government and each other. I admire the healthcare in England, Canada, France and other modern western societies. Americans have been conditioned by the capitalistic powers, to believe something is bad and it's reinforced with "doomsday" worst case scenarios...

Anyhow, it's funny (with slight irony) to me that Americans typically shit talk France and dirtily label them "socialist", but we Americans gobble down those French Fries and praise lady Liberty (she was a gift from the French :P)

I don't get it either. The French are incredible.
(maybe I'm brainwashed into loving them because I grew-up hearing good things about them here in New Orleans?)

I love it when, in the middle of international policy debates, rednecks bring-up how we "saved Europe's asses" 70 years ago, as though it still carries incredible, up-to-date weight in policy decisions. To me, that's like France repeatedly bringing-up their pivotal naval blockade at Yorktown 230+ years ago.

Actually, "French" fries are of Belgian origin, but who doesn't like fried foods?

In any case, I just call them fries.

I'm trying to make new friends through Planetromeo and yes, I'm meeting people in real life but it's not really working out. Things start falling apart when I refuse to go to parties. I have no choice because I get extremely anxious at parties. All I really want to do is have a drink and talk. People must think I'm boring because that's all I want to do :/

I used to have a good friend who'd take me out and get me in contact with other people. I never made friends that way but it was fun just meeting new people and talk. I miss those times.

Good Luck :)

I never had much luck meeting friends on PlanetRomeo or gayromeo as it was back in the day. Generally, there were other motivations there, though there were some cool people I talked to for a long while, but the friendships were generally temporary. Maybe you just need a change of scenery and another way to meet people. book clubs? discussion nights? volunteering? maybe you need a change in scenery ;)

It's kinda funny, because I had several friends that were like that including an awesome friend when I lived in europe. We used to go out to these parties and student/alternative events all the time, but it's very difficult for him. He's also had to go about things very differently.

I'm so woefully clueless about politics. I try to learn about it by reading the PoliGAF thread, but I always get bored and give up. :/

All you need to know: America is going down the drain. Down, down, down, down, down down the drain. No matter who you vote for.

Though I guess Obamacare is the one good thing Obama has done, IMO. Too bad that'll be shot-down if Romney is voted in.

So pessimistic.

He hasn't done a lot, but he's done more than one good thing. Ending DADT for example.

I know. It's interesting reading people's opinions and what they consider liberal and conservative.

What are your opinions?

He hasn't done a lot, but he's done more than one good thing. Ending DADT for example.

DADT is a minor thing (IMO) compared to universal healthcare, fixing the fucking economy, fixing the unemployment rate, etc. Yeah, those last two aren't really his and his alone problem but he could stop the outsourcing of jobs from businesses by passing globalization laws that kinda make businesses think twice before outsourcing.

Okay? I explicitly said he hasn't done a lot.

I know, I'm just saying: People wave DADT around like it's some major thing. Yeah, it's nice he repealed DADT but in the "big picture" it's such a minor thing that it really only effects you and me (in a metaphorical fashion) and not everyone else, you know?

He did recently vocally support gay marriage. He is the first former/sitting US President to openly support gay marriage. It's also been added to the Democraric party platform, as an official thing for support now, too :)

He passed healthcare reform. It's not perfect, but it's a start.
He assembled a consumer bureau
He helped Re-regulate Wall Street (deregulation of WS brought down US economy)
He helped end DADT
He called an end to the Iraq war (pulled out all combat troops)
He committed to a pullout timetable for Afghanistan war
He took out Osama Bin Laden and other creeps
He has improved American image overseas (compared to predecessor)
He helped engineer student loan reform
He wants to end the most useless part of Bush tax cuts
Etc.

I know one thing:
if it looks likely that he will win re-election, I'll most likely seek to take the following day off of work so that I can watch TV all day long. I might start with CSPAN's morning call-in show, to be followed by a long day of Fox News, capped-off with the Rachel Maddow midnight re-run and then Stewart/Colbert. Seeing folks cry about the end of the country, how we're all going to hell, how a chorus line of Ruth Bader Ginsburgs will take-over the Supreme Court, how Obama's gonna take their shotguns away and make their kids get gay married - it would all be so very creamy and delicious.

I might also have to visit some websites that day. FreeRepublic and RaptureReady immediately come to mind.. :)

Meh, I'm apolitical. Really at the end of the day it's "voting the lesser of the two evils" in for me. I haven't seen anyone in the American political system to give a damn about because there really hasn't been anyone that isn't in it for their non-self-serving needs/betterment of the country.

I blame lobbyists for that though.

To me, it's not that Obama has been an amazing president, only that he seems to have not been the worst the US could have gotten. I know that that doesn't really say much.

It's quite scary thinking that a non-Christian (or at the very least, religious) person would likely ever be elected as president, not to mention some of the insane people in US politics that seem to actually have people behind them. I don't think it would sting as much if a lot of what goes on in the US didn't seem to be the exact opposite of the ideas that the country is supposed to be founded on.

"voting the lesser of the two evils"
That's pretty much how I feel, and to be honest how I feel it really IS.

I recall seeing a quote someone made on a recent article that went something like: "Democracy is nothing more than the right to periodically choose your dictators."

Please do.

Hey, thanks for all of the supportive comments and advice! I don't really know what to do right now, and because I've been stuck in bed sick all day playing Pokemon I didn't really have a chance to do anything productive (or even respond to anything). I've been trying to sleep for the past 2 hours but my stomach is like a war zone right now and isn't having any of that. I'm thinking about playing a bit more video games to waste some time. So while I'm at the TV (typing this on my phone) I'm wondering if anyone wants to be friends on Xbox Live, PSN or even 3DS. My friends list is pretty barren and I wouldn't mind having some of GayGAF on it. :)

Once again, thank you for being so nice you guys!

Come back and try that again.
