Actually black support has only increased like 1% since the announcement much less than other groups. Their support has increased dramatically since 2008 from like 26 tp 41%
Considering who the alternative is in these elections, of course most black people will vote Democrat. There would probably be a lessened turnout if Obama actually came out as gay.
This video is directly on point to this discussion and really shows the ridiculousness of the subset of people with the attutude of the pastor in the OP. It's a shame that some people just can't let go of prejudice no matter who they are. Thankfully most people don't feel that way.

I care because I can remember being in the closet myself and I can empathize with that experience. If you were to do a thought experiment of what it would mean to live your life in the closet, you might as well. You make a mistake by assuming that they want to live their lives in that manner, rather than acknowledging the social pressures that cause people to believe that staying in the closet is the only option.

I've had to put with several of my nephews tweets and facebook similar to this. He will argue all day with people that he doesn't hate gays but it is still a sin and they will burn in hell and he is just sticking to his beliefs and etc. He even got a job at Chick-fil-a after graduating high school. He recently posted another spiel about this and ended it with a plea to "just enjoy the damn good chicken and stop attacking their beliefs"
His dad, my brother in law is the pastor at their local church. The part I can't stand about his argument and I see repeated is "Why are people against our free speech, people should be free to speak their mind" yet, you have no problem trampling over other peoples rights to marriage. I mean, you can believe in the Bible all you want, but it says nothing about requiring you to vote against gay rights, thats all on you. His whole family and extended church family didn't vote for Obama last election and from their facebook I doubt they will be this year either.

Someone should rob them of their persecution complex. The next time someone goes on Fox news to wail about how Christians are under attack, show them an example of an actual attack, show them an example of a Christian/conservative source using said attack, and demonstrate how they aren't being attacked by whatever is presently offending them. And then watch for blood spurts and shooting eyeballs.

Well, Obama sure had some balls to stand up against part of his base for what he feels is right. I probably would not have done it if I were in his shoes.

I like how he thinks he speaks for the whole black community. I'm sure gay black Americans will be voting for Obama. I think the problem with America is we like to throw terms out to segregated ourselves. We have to have white and black and African american or Irish American. Why can't we all just be called Americans and stop the segregation. Sorry for going off topic. Just feel in this day and age it silly to to think of ourselves as anything but just Americans.
Well, within just a few months. You had a sharp increase in support from Black voters with Gay Marriage after he came out for it. Its also another topic to really get youth voters out there for him, which is by far your most important base to get riled up again and shake that apathy for the election.
Not to really downplay the issue either, but unlike the economy which just can't be fixed(It can, but there will never be a defining moment). This on the other hand can be a very clear, decisive moment, and is actually plausible in his term to happen. To think about it from a more politic stance, let's say it happens in 2014. 50 years after the Civil Rights Act was pushed. Imagine the sort of legacy that would create for his career and also for many of the supporters and people living in this era. Its a bit cynical, but its also one of those moments that many people could be proud to live through.

Or, they could show them numerous examples all over the world where Christians really are persecuted and killed. Maybe they could then put their effort towards solving those issues.

Yep. That's why I think the legalization of gay marriage will fail here in Maryland when we vote for it in November. It's a real bummer.
It's currently the highest polling of the 4 gay-rights proposals on state ballots. And the measure is polling well with African-Americans.
The one to lose this fall is Washington. I'm much less worried about Maine and Maryland.
