I don't know how anyone could hate on this damn scene...

The directors of this show can shoot a scene that forces us to stare at a pile of shit for 10 seconds, and make it look beautiful and vibrant.

Never have I seen such a perfect blend of visual storytelling and dialogue on a TV show, well, at least I haven't for a long time.

That shot of her staring at the pool in contrast to Walt's dribble about their "bathroom moment" from a year ago was perfect. My and my girlfriend have already re-watched this episode due to its overall awesomeness.

I wonder what the female audience thinks of Walt and Skylar, and the rest of the cast. My girlfriend absolutely despises Walter, has an on and off liking of Jesse(current likes and feels sorry for Jesse), loves Mike, loves Hank and Marie, thinks Walt Jr is a douche, and thinks Lydia is a spas.

She routed for Walt up until she found out about him poisoning Brock(which she called before the revealing at the end of season 4), and putting his family in harms way(upon killing Gus) after he could've walked away from it all and get back to living a normal life.

I've obviously tried a thousand times in this thread to figure out why it could happen, but honestly I have zero logical idea, what could happen between then and now that would be so drastic.

Walt is on the run because he has been found out. Fake ID etc.

Seriously. Breaking Bad and Mad Men in particular have raised the visual aspect of television to a whole new level, leaving all others behind. I give the edge to Mad Men on this one, personally, but Breaking Bad is more well rounded and more impressive storytelling.

There's a sense of these shows taking advantage of the whole of the medium in a way nothing has before. To me, at least.

I've always liked Skylar up until relatively recently, but I think it's fair to say that a lot of people didn't have a problem once she started contributing something to the 'business' side of things in season 4. No one complains about Marie because she's such an incidental part of the background, but Skylar has been in every episode, and it's not sexist to say that she wasn't as fun to watch when her character was (very well done mind you) just acting as a 'will he get caught' mechanism. For a lot of people, her character became redundant and old territory until very recently where they are pissed over how she handled the divorce (refusing to let Walt see his children, keep in mind this is before gus and before he admitted to cooking) and so on.

Reasons Walt sucks:
- Would have chosen death over loss of pride

His cancer has always been terminal, he was always going to die. The operation has not stopped that fact, nor did the chemo. Walt wanted to go out on his terms, and Hitler wouldn't let him.
(:D)
She got into it for different reasons though. Holy shit. SHE WAS TRICKED, MANIPULATED.
Walt kept giving her hope he was gonna stop. He didn't. He got worse after killing Gus. Skyler now knows 1) he's a murderer and 2) he's not gonna stop.

Tricked into what exactly?

I honestly don't think Hank cares anymore. He was always fixated on solving the case, even when crippled.

Really? I foresee the blue meth case interfering with his new role. He's not going to be able to let go, especially because he knows some part of Frings operation is still out there.

Damn, I need to get into Mad Men, I've heard many good things about it.

It took me a year and a half to listen to my gf and finally get into Breaking Bad lol.

^__^ in a way I'm glad it took me that long, these year long waits are too much for me. It's gone to the point where I chart down a bunch of different shows to watch, some good, the rest ok, just to make the wait easier.

But looks like I can add Mad Men to my list this fall.

I thought this was a fantastic character development episode for Skyler. I went from hating her to sympathizing with her because of how well done that bedroom scene with her and Walt was done.

One day, sooner or later, someone will create a Breaking Bad vs Mad Men thread and on that day we will share words.

Today, though, I'll say I agree with your sentiment. You could watch either series on mute and still be bombarded with more story than a lot of shows. Very very little, if anything, is wasted.

Hey, I'm not saying that that makes one or the other better. Only that Mad Men attempts to maximize the information conveyed visually at the expense of all other modes while Breaking Bad attempts more balance. More balance still involving more effort on the visual side of things than almost any other tv show ever.

After reading this thread, I am thoroughly convince I need to rewatch this from the beginning. This is the last season. Usually, I don't pick up on shows until the last season so everything is fresh on my mind. There's a lot of details that seem foggy.

Just wanted to say that everytime I watched a really great episode I think the creators can't top it, only to be amazed later on.

What an episode, what a show, I'm sorry Tony, Carmela, McNulty and Stringer Bell, but Walter White is my new tv-show king.

Dubstep wow, breaking bad is about the only show that can make it work with that horrible sound

Naw it's in there because it's a hip sound, and this is a hip show. You might not like it, but that scene bought this show street cred.

There is no way you could possibly believe that an elite group would create a masterpiece such as Breaking Bad to weed out sociopath's.
You fool it is designed specifically for us misanthropic types!
I would tune out now if you really can't stand Walt's character, why are you fucking watching then.

Oh that's right you need something to bitch about on a forum. I love neogaf & use any type of social networking to hear opinions & gather info. I'm not here to make friends. I could care less what you think of my opinion as well. Your opinion reflects back in the mirror as shit. If I could, I would smear all of you backseat mods & bitch ass complainers with a fecal crayon, while force feeding you a shit sandwich, Immediately after which I would acquaint you with a septic tank. No, I do not have a fecal fetish I just believe that you & those with like minds = human waste product.
You are a product because anyone who doesn't believe in your politically correct ways, just can't be right. Fall in line conform, do as your told. Fall in line with the assembly line.
I find in real life going off topic for a bit that those that are completely straight laced are the real freaks & menaces behind closed doors. Even Ted Bundy worked for a suicide help line. He was another one of those typical republican type of guys. Just playing a role with the dirtiest hands in the room in reality.

In all seriousness, Get off of your limp assed high horse & up off of my dick you self righteous drones. You are as much of a work of fiction as the show we discuss. In fact I like the show, ultimately your life & what you value means less to me.Be serious! No one in this god damn scorched earth we live on watches this show for Skylar.
If you do, go ahead & turn on Nurse Jackie or something. Watch lifetime, Oxygen, Housewives of Beverly Hills & fuck off!

As for Skylar, Go into the water Skylar, Go into the water & never come back....

Holy shit this guy is fucking insane.

Fuck it all, I'm rooting for Mike. He's been my favorite character this season. Always pragmatic and dependable. Of course, Walt shot down the plan to kill Lydia because he's GOTTA COOK FAST and become The Danger, and Jesse was against it because he doesn't want to see any more death and chaos, which is understandable. Mike was still right though... Lydia is a huge fucking liability and completely unpredictable.

lol you crazy

My gf has wanted Sky to catch a bullet since episode one season one but loves Marie to an insane degree. She was all aboard the Walt train until he poisoned Brock. She likes Jesse but not as much as me or many others. She love Hank/Marie the most.

Our mutual female friend doesn't hate Sky but hates whenever she is on screen. Skylar scene? *Loud audible groan* She was out on Walt after Jane's death. Would fuck the bajesus out of Aaron Paul so I think her love of Jesse gets a little off base. She also likes Mike alot because "he reminds me of my sweet great uncle who always had fucked up stories from his crime days".

Sky really makes me miss mad men whenever she is on screen. Basically every single female on mad men is a better character and a better actress. Hell even Betty who is essentially a woman with a child's mind is more sympathetic to me than sky and all she had to deal with was a run of the mill cheating/lying husband.

How people can be so different...
I want Marie to disappear. She´s up there with the blonde girl from temple of doom as one of the most annoying chracters I´ve ever seen. I might like Sky just for telling her to shut up.

Way to get personal there with the attack. Jesus, I think you need some medical examination more than Skylar in a fictional show does. I can't tell whether you're genuinely mentally ill or just being the biggest troll of the day. That itself is a gift.

P.S. That Dubstep scene made me cringe. Ugh.

I'm sure it's been mentioned already, but Marie's "It feels like longer" comment had me in stitches.

No way that wasn't intentional, especially after listening to the Dean Norris Fresh Air interview yesterday.

Tricked into what exactly?

That she was money laundering until Walt finishes his contract with Gus.
Really? I foresee the blue meth case interfering with his new role. He's not going to be able to let go, especially because he knows some part of Frings operation is still out there.
Isn't that what I said?

I was out of town for two weeks, so I'm just catching up on episodes 3 and 4. I like how they've kept the reconciliation theme going with Walt moving back into the house early on in episode 3. Here's hoping they keep that going.

Skylar has definitely done some questionable shit, I just can't see how people can seriously even begin to compare her with the piece of shit that is Walt.

She fucked Ted.

Got to the "Shut up, shut up, shut up!" scene in episode 3. Goddamn fucking good acting from both Skyler and Marie. I still think Skyler needs to sack up a bit more and not give so much of a fuck about her husband's profession, but the range of emotion from that actress was impressive.

Also, Marie is annoying as fuck. "There must be some kind of regulation against this. You can't expose your employees to second-hand smoke." Jesus Christ, they really wrote her as a hateable character.

Do you rember in S1E07 when skylar confronted her about her shoplifiting?

Does anyone remember the episode or scene when Skylar finally learns what Walt is doing, how much money he has and what his motivations are? I remember Walt showing her or telling her how much money they were talking about and him saying "that's Jr college fund, and healthcare for you and the baby" or something along those lines. Was it at the end of season 2?

This is where we disagree. It's easy to become intoxicated by Mad Men's style and visual flare, but for a series to sustain such a rich & detailed portrayal of 1960s society & its machinations almost dictates that the narrative sing from every possible crevice. The language, the music, cultural references, grander social dialogues etc. etc.. Mad Men weaves a rich tapestry of storytelling.

Breaking Bad > Mad Men.

That should close the book on that debate.

Also, midway through episode 4, and they have really made Skyler into the worst character on television. The flossing scene is just painful. Fucking grow a sack! I didn't she could ever get worse than IFT, but she's getting there again.

I am really LTTP with BB, never really paid any attention to it over the years, knew nothing about it. Somebody told me about it a few weeks ago. About 10 days ago I started a marathon watching session after work. Watched the entire series and am now up to date.

It's like Arrested Development to me (where I was also really LTTP), how could I have missed this show? It is so awesome. Also, having lived in New Mexico from 2005 until 2008 makes it all that much better to me....love all the little local things in the show, makes me miss Blake's Lotaburger so much more...

Skylar leaves Walt at the very end of the season 2. At the every beginning of season 3 she confronts him with the knowledge that she figured out he's selling drugs - somewhere in the middle of season 3 is where he lays the bag of money out and gives her that speech. If I had to guess I'd say in 'Mas'

Well, judging from the preview of the next episode,
it seems refraining from killing Lydia might have been a wise move.

EDIT: My apologies, didn't know discussions based on next episode previews were considered spoilers.
