I only recently started to read up on this nifty device.

The pro version is essentially a laptop with a touch screen, right? I'm thinking of replacing my shitty 4 year old laptop with a Surface Pro when it comes out.

There are some diffrences .

The pro kick stand allows it to only be used at a single angle .

The keyboard cases are going to be flimsy compared to a laptop keyboard.

So i doubt you'll be able to use this on your lap well. Although Im sure there will be a more traditional keyboard dock . I bet the first company to put an extra battery in a keyboard to charge the pro while giving a more ridgid base for your lap would make a killing.

I'm going to replace my hp dm3z with dual core 1.6 neo 4 gigs of ram and a hd 3200igp and hd 4330 dedicated.

Even the wacom pen on Galaxy Note is not very good. I don't have high hope.

Blame the pixel density/size and the included software.

Take the same S pen and use it on a Tablet PC and it feels fine. The only software on the Note that comes with pressure support is Samsung's note app and it's laggy and abrupt with the ink.

Also when you have 5" screen instead of say 10 or 12" screen, the same 500 lines per inch accuracy is not as good since the 5" LCD has about the same resolution as the 12" LCD (1280x720 and 1280x800).

No I meant it didn't make operation faster with the stylus when I run Photoshop touch on Galaxy Note. Maybe it will be different on a 10" screen but I doubt it. My theory is that stylus can only compliment the keyboard controlling scheme, not replace it.

RT has a 31.4Wh battery, new ipad has a 42.5Wh battery. But ipad has a higher res screen and going by the Asus Transformer Infinity, tegra3 is really great on battery life...Infinity has a high res screen too but only a 25.5Wh battery and lasts just as long as the new ipad.

So RT in theory should have better battery life, but it'll also depends on the OS too.
That's what I want to know. We've never seen windows on arm. So we have no clue what the battery life will be.

Battery life
Price

Hit those and I'm switching.

Switching from what ?

You don't want to switch from a windows laptop to a windows rt device unless you don't care about any of the x86/64 programs working .

The Galaxy Note 10.1 seems to address all of these issues with it's larger screen and 2 gigs of ram.

Wrong, there is a demo of it being used on someone's lap and if you want a rigid base MS already has a cover with a traditional keyboard. Nice FUD.

What about browsers in RT tablets? MS might not allow other browsers...

Mozilla complained Wednesday that Microsoft prohibits running any browser except Internet Explorer (IE) on Windows RT, hampering choices for users. Google said on Thursday it shares the concerns.
Windows RT will have two environments, one the app-tailored Metro environment aimed at tablets and phones, and a classic Windows interface. Microsoft allows only Internet Explorer to run in that classic environment, Mozilla said. In practice, this means browsers like Firefox, Chrome and Opera will not be able to access "vital" advanced computing functions that enhance speed, stability and security of those browsers and, according to Mozilla. The company argues that if Microsoft's Internet Explorer can run on Windows RT, there is no technical reason to conclude other browsers can't do the same.

So the only real problems with this being a replacement for a laptop is not being able to use it on your lap comfortably?

I nearly always use my laptop on a desk so I think I'll be fine.

I use my iPad with a kickstand from Speck and a Bluetooth keyboard on my lap all the time.

lol realize who your talking to, I'm one of the biggest surface supporters. Regardless I saw the same demo you have and you either have to deal with it flat on your lap or on the angle the kick stand supports. The second thicker keyboard is still quite flimsy and does not compare at all to the base of a laptop. Also considering its to pieces held together by magnets it won't do as good of a job in those scenarios. If you don't need it on your lap (I never put a laptop on my lap do to heat) then your fine. Its just an instance where the pro might not be the best tool for the job

anyone have a link to that demo? could not find it

Well I returned my Transformer Prime for full Best Buy store credit....now I'm fully on board to get the Surface. Just hope it'll he sold at Best Buy.

nope. MS stores or MS online store.

Actually didn't MS say that 'select' online retailers will be selling Surface as well?

edit. Some Googling confirms that MS's words are that Surface will be sold in MS retail stores and "select" online retailers. So that likely means Microsoft.com store and "other select" retailers.

Not available at retail stores?

You've got to be kidding me right? I thought this was Microsoft's next big thing in hardware? How the hell are they going to sell this thing without putting it into physical stores?

MS retail stores, they have opened quite a few and are continue to open them on a regular basis. However, it would seem that the large majority of consumers will be buying online through various outlets.

The only thing Microsoft said was that Surface would be available at MS stores and the website. They didn't say it would only be available there.

I'm guessing they are trying to get a retailer to enter into some kind of exclusivity agreement to help out with marketing for it and that's why they haven't mentioned anything else at this point.

They only intend to sell a few million of them. Their intent seems to be less about massive sales and more about pushing their OEMs along.

Aren't ARM chips battery life reportedly good?

I'd worry about the Pro model but then again I don't really care about it. Why get the Pro model when my PC rig is a beast?

Just give me the regular Surface for my bed time fapping needs.

No flash support sorry. ;_;

I know nothing about hardware specs, but why is it something they're not good at? Isn't the Surface hardware supposed to be good?
