Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

How much time is it needed to from 0 to 50 in HoM? I never played GW1.

Getting from 0-30 will take a few months. I've clocked in about 2,000 hours of GW and just made it to 30, however, I didn't strive to get the rewards until recently, so it could take a few hundred hours (maybe 700) if you start from scratch. 0-50 will take a very long time. Not worth even going for that if you're just starting now.

I don't like it actually. It's all fine and dandy, then a year later you have to reinstall your game for whatever reason and you forget your credentials cause you never entered them on a regular basis.

Your password and other config settings are likely stored in Local.dat in your documents folder, just copy it over when you format.

Difference is that free games only make money off microtransactions, they no longer are selling the game and have to make money somehow. GW2 is being sold as a boxed title and is not solely dependant on microtransactions and will always be sold in some form just like original GW was.

I was in The Secret World beta this weekend, and they had what I'm pretty sure they were cash item vendors all around the place. They were smart about it, too, they mixed them up with regular vendors so that it was impossible not to talk to one by mistake once in a while.
Note that this is a game that already asks for a box price AND a subscription fee.
Not to take TSW further down, but remembering about the cash vendors just standing there like mannequins, made me realize how alive GW2's world is. TSW was filled with NPCs standing there doing nothing. It was, frankly, quite creepy.

Does anyone have some good reads/videos to help me choose either a warrior or guardian? Want more hype!

The only correct choice seems to be "make both". Guardian was the profession I was least interested in (as Paladin-style classes bore me), but what I played of it was awesome, and will now be making one. I haven't played the warrior as much, but it seemed quite cool as well.
Seriously, make one of each, go to the PvP lobby to try all skills, then play accordingly.

Lol you won't be able to get 50 anytime soon. I take that back, without help and since you've never played you cannot hit 30 before the 25th. You don't have to do it all now but it's highly unlikely you'd play GW1 again after GW2 comes out. 45-50 takes longer than 1-40.

Completely wrong. All vendors in the game world are payed by ingame money, PvE or PvP tokens. The vanity store where you can buy stuff with real money (or points) is an extra window you have to open.

was toying around with the skill calculator for my characters:

Necromancer
Mesmer
Ranger (without the imba wolf)

didn't really get to play as Ranger or Mesmer during the BWE though. Something they all have in common is ... these are all condition damage builds. I think I have a problem.

Great site!

Btw, how many stacks of might can we have? Or how many stacks can we have of each condition or boon that are stackable ?

I know that, and that's just another reason for B2P done right instead of F2P done wrong. I just realized it again after firing up Lotro :)

Lotro actually has a very good F2P model with the sub model because you can sub for a month and make some characters while letting you keep stuff like bag slots, character slots, etc as a premium member for free rather than taking it all away. I just wish Lotro didn't suffer from so much skill bloat, combat with my RK consists of over 20 buttons every fight, it's all a mishmash of stupid. EQ2 has this issue as well.

As Feef stated, your post about the vendors is false.

Also, there are actually several instances of NPCs that have scripted events or that walk around from one location to another. There are still a lot of NPCs that stand around cycling dialog and animations but this seems to be the case in pretty much every MMO ever, including Guild Wars 2.

I stand corrected; they were the PvE or PvP token vendors then, most surely. And I'm usually the guy that tells people not to be too quick to think badly of others! For shame, Weltall... :(

Many of the NPCs in GW2 just stand around doing nothing also.

Most of them either have conversations with each other, or move around, emote, do something. I doubt even a quarter of GW2's NPCs were 100% static. TSW, on the other hand, had most if not all of its NPCs stand around frozen like statues.

I don't know, if I went back to WoW perhaps it would feel like that as well... there were several NPCs that went around the cities and such but even back then it didn't feel as lively as GW2 feels.

Yup, I really like Lotro's and DDO's models with "quest packs" and whatnot, especially in DDO it really fits and gives off a Pen and Paper RPG vibe somehow. What I don't like is just the Store advertising in every freaking screen. Shame no one wanted to rock DDO with me, and after 4 years of fun, Lotro has become a different game than the one I started out on, and is no longer attractive to me except for all the awesome fluff stuff. It's still my first MMO love though, so it'll probably be installed for years to come, even if the best times with it happened before hitting Level 51 <3

The ambient dialogue is one of my favorite features in GW2, especially when it leads to an event.

I figured I'd let you guys have some wallpapers I've been making in my wait for GW2.

Most of the art isn't in widescreen friendly dimensions so I made a sort of frame to compensate.

I tried to keep the art as close to original as possible, but made some changes to smooth out some edges, even out the contrast, add some depth, and make some seem less like sketches and more like finished pieces. Things like Blur on foreground and background terrain, or smoothing out some of the more Low Resolution images for better quality.

Making wallpapers is something I usually do when waiting on a game to release. You should have seen me before Super Smash Bros Brawl...

Anyways, If anyone has any suggestions or requests, let me know.
I'll be adding to My Folde on Minus.

P.S. They're all in 1080p :D

I was wondering - since mobs can only have 25 stacks of conditions such as bleeding or confusion, condition damage-based builds are kind of a liability in large-scale PvE, no? (especially against boss mobs)

and condition damage from a single stack can vary depending on the player and skill used, so it'd be interesting to know how the damage is calculated when various players are stacking the same condition on a mob.

25 people attacking the same mob is kinda overkill in this game I think. It does happen... just how the game is structured... but I don't think they're any balance around it specifically.

but you can already easily get 25 stacks on a mob with just one or two players (and only bleeding and confusion stack with intensity anyway)

I'm starting to think that there won't be room for more than one or maybe two condition damage-based builds tops in a balanced 5-man PvE group with how the current system works

It seems like he has major dynamic event bosses in mind with his question (like Shatterer), I'd hope they'd considered these things in those cases.

If you follow guides it and know what you're doing, starting from scratch it will take awhile.

I started a Ritualist (recommended by most guides) back in March. When I hit 30/50 last week, I had put in about 200 hours. Some of those were afk, but not quite a ton.

Most conditions don't last long anyways, so even capped at 25 there'd be a lot of fall off.

That's my thought as well. You'd need 2, probably 3 people all running the same condition based builds to keep a stack going and then you have to take into account the ability to even keep it going at all times since you can't just stand there.

hm, a pistol Thief or Engineer or scepter Necro can keep those 25 bleeding stakes up pretty much permanently without having to take any risks. Vulnerability is a bit more difficult to stack, and there are only few skills that cause Confusion. Poison, Burning and so on don't stack in intensity and can be inflicted with plenty of skills, so they should be constantly cast on the enemy.

as a side note, fields that cause Blind could be huge against hard-hitting boss mobs

Reddit guide to 30/50 HoM. It will take probably about 150 hours.

1year playing everyday.

Yeah, I think then I'm gonna have to pass on them. Atlhough following that reddit guide sounds tempting. Thanks for the input, guys!

I loved LOTRO's model, too! I usually take my sweet time leveling to max in games, so I found it much more cost effective to pay for the content I wanted and would use right away, rather than pay the monthly fee for a year for access to all content, most of which I won't use.

I don't think the guide is accurate at all. The Ritualist build will bore you to tears. There are 58 or so missions across the 3 campaigns. Completing all of them in both normal and hard mode, with Master's reward in each, is incredibly tedious. As you'll be doing everything with heroes there are some missions that they just are not suited for; Eternal Grove and Dzagonur Bastion being the main culprits. Even if you managed all of that, the proposed money-making strategy will likely be unavailable to you, and the rest of the guide mostly depends on that.

Going for 30/50 just isn't worth it at this point.

Seeing footage here there. I've noticed one thing. Why the hell is everyone wearing the same generic coat?

What were you watching? Structured PvP? PvE? WvW?

I'm going to guess you're looking at sPvP and in that case the footage you're seeing is very likely from fresh characters in which case they don't have access to any of the better skins because they just started playing. You gain access to Glory which works as an XP and a currency, X amount of Glory gains you new Ranks, each new rank set gets you access to higher and higher tiers of better and better looking gear (note that at no point does the stats get better, only the aesthetics).

This was just posted over at d2jsp

I know everyone here doesn't trust me etc but either ignore it or keep it in mind, because this is what will happen at release for one month.

The money you earn from events, mobs hearts etc will be called "profit".
You CANNOT recieve more money in the mail than what you've earned in profit.
So for example, you've made a total of 70 silver from events etc.. the max gold you can get in total in mail from a person is 70 silver.. sending more than that will give the sender an error.

I'm not supposed to be releasing this kind of information, but here you go.

So this is another step ANet has taken to kill the black market, GG farmers. Although that doesn't make sense...why would the amount of money YOU make reflect how much someone can send you...I think he mixed up his words there. I think he's saying if player 1 makes 70 silver then player 1 can't send out more than that to any given player, maybe a percentage or something/

I'm assuming sPvP. Everyone has the same gear for sake of balance. You earn rewards from playing to change the look but not the stats.

Seriously, why don't other MMO's do this? If most passwords are stolen from keyloggers, add the checkbox to remember password and you'll not have this problem.

Where is the password stored? In the .dat file? If so, is it encrypted within? I just don't want someone or something to copy/scan the .dat file to get my password.

Mostly Arena pvp. They could've made the starter gear look better. It makes the presentation so crappy. :x

What you gain in sPvP ARE the looks so handing a bunch of awesome looking gear out right at the start is rather pointless from a feel good reward type system that people love so much.

They still could've made starting gear less ass. The reward of having nicer and different gear would still be there.

I think you're right, it's probably a limit on how much you can send. Gold Farmers don't use the same accounts they use to farm as they do to sell, because the seller is more visible and can be shut down, which is a problem because the farmers tend to be max level so they can farm the best spots.

Either way though, it's good for us; If the guy has it right, it means the farm character can't send profits to a low level seller character. If he has it backwards, they can, but the seller character then can't send it to buyers.

Win / Win. Black Market Gold sellers are probably the biggest reason we need authenticators in the first place.

Yep.

If you make the starter gear good at all, then someone might have a preference towards it rather than the earned armors. By making it look dull, it mitigates that possibility somewhat.

I wonder if that includes profit made off the trading post (has to be). If not, id imagine a bunch of people would flip out. Especially that Freelancer dude from Team Legacy

Has anyone participated in tournament sPvP, or have you only been doing the hotjoin sPvP? Any impressions of the tournament sPvP.

I've read about the tournament structure - essentially the same as the hotjoins, same maps and format, but 5v5. I'm a bit confused why they didn't keep the Hall of Heroes format from the original Guild Wars. I haven't played Guild Wars in many years, but I thought the Hall of Heroes was an amazing format for structured PvP. Was there ever any discussion on why the change?

I'll note, I didn't play any of the GW expansions, so I don't know how things changed with Guild Wars 1 as time went on.

Yes, they've said that they tested every gametype imaginable and found Conquest to be the most enjoyable for what the game is promoting and for the eSport scene. They said they will make more gametypes, just not at launch.
