Why is there no silencer?
Maybe it's beta only? Hopefully they'll add one in the full version.
if it's not being added in this patch (and it's not), then it's not going to be. it's not like it just slipped their mind
Silencers will be added in the future.
What makes you say that?
Seems like an odd thing to leave until later considering how low effort it is and that theyd have to patch the console versions as well
What about silencers???
IDO: They're on the to-do list but we haven't made it that far down the list yet.
Feels like this game is being sent to die. I know Valve is a relatively small company and always busy with multiple projects, but it really feels like they have never really given the CS IP the attention it deserves. This is a series (CS 1.6 and Source) that until 2 months ago had 2 games in the top 3 spots for most played games on Steam. They will probably return there soon and be in front of all but Dota 2 on the most played list.
But Valve have never really dedicated themselves to the series. Hidden Path is handling most of this version and Turtle Rock handled most of Source. They seem completely opposed to making an official CS 2 for some weird reason.
CS Go doesn't look anywhere close to as good as it should for a close quarters game coming out in 2012. In some ways the gameplay feels closer to 1.6 (model sizes and recoil/accuracy on a few of the guns), but in most it doesn't feel like a CS game at all. Movement is janky, tracers, accuracy of sound locations, any gun that isnt a main gun feels completely useless, gun models are gigantic. It is just way off. It feels like a pre-Alpha version where the designers are still trying to get a feel for what direction they want to go with the design.
Together with the price point and low key release makes this feel like a throwaway release. Like Valve either doesnt care or maybe realized too late that what they have isnt good enough so they might as well get it out the door and get some return on it. Not used to seeing this from a Valve game.
In the PC version can you play with friends against bots in a private match? Or are bots offline only?
There's an option that seems to be for that in the main menus but it is broken (or inelegantly deactivated) in the beta.In the PC version can you play with friends against bots in a private match? Or are bots offline only?
Bots take up empty slots. So matches are always 5 on 5. When people join a game, they take over the bots' slots. Also, if you have a bot on your team and you die in a round, you can take control over that bot
So yeah, you should be able to play against bots if you wish
Thanks guys. There's an option that seems to be for that in the main menus but it is broken (or inelegantly deactivated) in the beta.
I hope this is a working option in the final game, it's nice to chill in a bot match chatting with friends, with no pressure from other players.
TF2's success says you're wrong. Hardcore players would never have liked the art style, the hats, the comedy, etc.
Hate to be one of "those guys" but don't professional players almost always hate the newer games (with the EXPLICIT exception of possibly SC2, but I didn't follow that scene from the beginning, it seems like the only game that was loved from the get-go).
I mean in the Fighting game community almost every newgameiteration of a game is met with constant criticism and nitpicking up until weeks after release (if it ever stops at all). It seems to me more of an issue of "We've been playing this game for the past X number of years competitively so anything to change it up that requires us to relearn = bad".
That seems to be my impression. I'm sure people have already stated this very point but I just think all games need to stew before any critical analysis of them are accurate, especially in a competitive setting, where meta-game's change even 10 years into the game's life.
On that note, I bought the CS pack. Didn't own CS:S on my current steam account and only $3 more for all the CS games seemed like a steal.

I want the whole screen to shake when I shoot. It will be easier to control the recoil this way and it wouldn't matter if the recoil is different than in 1.6. I just need the visual feedback.
People shouldn't write off criticisms (made by both CS and CSS players, for months) as stubbornness. Play the game first
There is. Still needs work though
Do you think that CS:GO would have been better received if they drastically changed it?
I think that one mistake was calling it CS and saying that both 1.6 and Source players will be satisfied or something like that. If they said from the beginning that this is a CS Source sequel then that would have been a different story imo.
From what I've played of it in the beta, there isn't enough of a difference from CS:S to constitute a full seperate release. I'm sure the backend and engine upgrade are a technical marvel, but when the game feels the same as the existing game, what's the point?

Serious question.
Why do B > R and B > A not work.
Why the fuck do I need to use my mouse to rebuy for devs?
Cool.
Games feels Very different.

Do you seriously think you can compare TF 1/2 with CS 1.6? Where is TF2's competitive scene? Where is TF1's? Who cares if the game has hardcore players, we're talking about game mechanics and balance, both of which made CS what it was. If you're telling me CS would be a better game with stats on guns simply because more people would play it, and you'd consider that a "success" you completely miss the point. TF1s competitive scene was pretty much dead by the time tf2 came around, and TF2's didn't last so long.
The majority of 1.6 players don't want anything but an HD 1.6 It's true, if it's not broken don't fix it. I do think casual mode/competitive mode was the best thing they could do. Having fog and clutter in competitive mode also misses the point entirely.
Nothing that was added to GO by the devs was any good, according to vocal 1.6 community. That's right, they added stuff to the game without actually understanding what made it so good. I couldn't care less what they add to casual mode, but make competitive mode true to it's roots and move on.
Any suggestions for new gametypes/equipment was always shot down. The typical response was "That might be cool in another game...but that ain't Counterstrike". Again, add whatever you want... for casuals.
They tweaked the spay patterns numerous times in a variety of ways; feedback was mixed. Molotovs - no good. Modern circular menu - console garbage. Map layouts similar to L4D maps - devs are lazy SoBs. And so on.
"tweaked the spray patterns in a variety of ways" what does that even mean to you? Do you even know what 1.6 players preference is?
I imagine when the final version is shown shortly, they'll have competitive versions of the maps with no fog & tracers, as requested. And the sound will be fixed.
Which is great, though the movement is still a bit floaty for me.
Anyway, I've enjoyed this guy's CSGO videos for a number of months (TheWarOwl) - agree with almost all his opinions. I hate this guys voice.
