Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

All right, just so I have this right. On the first head start day I make a quickly make a character and then delete him. That will give me 24 hours to reclaim that name?

Game is running so much better now. HOWEVER, holy Jesus the game is running hot. My GPUs hit 90c during that boss encounter. :(

For the new page:

I was wondering, the Ranger has lots of melee attacks that make you evade. Does this combo with his trait Companion's Defense, which gives you Protection every time you dodge roll?

I haven't tried it, but I'm going to say no. Ranger attacks that evade aren't considered to be dodge rolls.

The problem is my motherboard (EVGA 113-M2-E113 AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA nForce 730a HDMI ATX AMD ). It doesn't support anything higher than the 560SE, as far as I know.

But either way, $300 for a video card, no. Not a chance. :P At most, $200.

All I really want is something better than the HD 5750, without having to upgrade my MB to do it. 99% of my games run fine, it's GW2 I'm worried about.

Someone is selling a 570 in the buy/sell/trade thread for $150. I would jump on it asap imo!!!

This was the first time I could play the game and I'm really satisfied with how it runs. Getting a nice solid fps (with a few hiccups) with everything pretty much maxed out. Can't wait for the 25th!

Had some good old pvp fun. Certainly going warrior. They're so much fun. Ran into a crazy over powered engineer though. Had us chasing her all over the map and she was dropping bombs on us doing way too much damage. So hard to kill too.

I missed out on today's stress test. Any noticeable major (or minor) class changes?

I know last time Engineer had some tweeks... anything different this time around?

Was fun, but I had a ton of Internet trouble. Some combination of my Internet turning to shit and the stress test giving no favors. I would get input lag and rubber banding while getting completely dropped from the gave every couple of minutes. Didn't stop me from taking people 2 on 1 in WvW, but still pissed me the hell off.

Rawk Firefur. Need to decide if I'm keeping the name.

Music to my (engineer) ears!

The games performance seemed even better this time around. I was using the same settings and my FPS were much higher in PvE and sPvP.

When I played the first BWE I really thought I'd be stuck with a bad framerate forever, but they really have done a great job optimising it so far.

My choice of profession has completely changed again though!

So I just played GW2 for about two hours and I absolutely loved it. This is coming from someone who normally hates MMORPGs. Man, I really feel like I'm on withdrawal already. :D
I know that the characters created during the stress test won't carry over but I want to recreate my human thief when the final game launches. She was awesome. Like, the coolest character ever. <3

Are those worth wasting a salvage kit on though?

Absolutely. A single salvage kit has 15 uses, and each use will yield 2-4 units of materials. Each of these should easily sell for more than the kit itself, even at launch, let alone after prices rise (salvage kit is vendored, so it stays the same).

Well, I tried. :P

I tried adjusting the graphics slider but it kept crash when trying to move it for some odd reason. Only got to play about an hour though. Regardless, was playing on "best performance" option with high res textures and was getting steady 60fps

So first time playing the game, my AMD 5750 can't handle this game at max, I got like 11fps, if I put it at performance it runs great, looks like shit, I played Guardian Human because Sylvari boss in the personal story area was broken on Gate of Madness server, I ran around doing events almost died trying to take on a level 6 spider lol...can't wait for this game to launch...

/dance wasn't even in during the test, so I'm assuming it's the BWE3 content with an updated rendering engine because of the huge FPS increase. Or maybe they disabled debugging.

Man Warrior was a lot of fun. Not sure I liked the Norn starting area much compared to the Charr, though it had some fun event chains. Where we ended the test was a pretty cool step, though it would have taken us about 20 minutes or so to actually kill the guy at the end since he had seven levels on us.

Going to be hard to decide now. Rifle skill set on the Warrior is just perfect.

Was that just the preset slider or each individual setting? Seems a weird thing to crash on.

The only thing that my computer can't handle are the large scale WvW fights. Phenom 965 just can't cope with that much going on at once sadly. But getting between 70-100 FPS on medium elsewhere was amazing. Compared to a game like Rift or Tera, this runs a lot better than I honestly thought it would.

Experience for a GW2 first-timer:

Picked thief. Honestly, while there seems to be a lot of content, the low-level PvE seems very standard MMO fare (kill this, fetch that, feed the cows). I understand going through this to 'learn the game' for beginning, but I won't enjoy this type of gameplay when making a new character and going through it again (even if in a different starting area, I'm guess the types of quests and experiences will be similar). Events are nice enough, though. I initiated one after talking to some soldiers, and we moved out to clear out some centaurs. Before I knew, there were 15-20 other players tagging along, killing centaurs left and right. There seemed to be a good number of these events.

Like: weapon skills unlock very quickly.
Dislike: unlocking additional utility skill slots seems to take a lot of time. Lvl 7 for 1 slot, 10 for 2, 20 for 3, 30 for the elite? That seems excessive.

I jumped into a bit of WvWvW. That was lots of fun! I like that they level you to 80, it would have been nice to get some other benefits to leveling up, like allowing weapon-swaps, and unlocking the utility skillslots (I had bought a few of them, but could only bring in one before of my real level). Started off having to fend off a massive offensive near our main gate. With reinforcements, we managed to push them back. As the battle converged at a bridge, some of us flanked at the side and cut off their escape route, managing a few kills. The survivors retreated behind their own gate, and we had to bash it down. I saw one of ours building some sort of ballista kit. Meanwhile, the defenders had archers and spellcasters lobbing stuff down on us from their walls, while some of their bolder melee chars jumped down the walls to assault us. Very hectic battle. And then the stress test ended :(

Basic combat mechanics are very nice. I think they've got the action elements of it down pat. Dodging is nicely implemented. Works well, but you don't get enough endurance to spam it.

Thief is pretty fun. Initiative means I have to choose what skills I want to use when, rather than relying on which ones are recharging. The various weapon combinations were nice. Sword allowing me to shadowstep into melee range (and shadowstep back to my initial location optionally), and dagger/pistol allowing me to shadowstep btw melee and pistol range, thrown dagger crippling, shortbow leapback + cripple, shadowstep arrow. Adding some shadowstep utility skills, and a stealth heal, and that's some nice options in battle.

Overall, nice game. Nice combat mechanics. Some very cool experiences. But skeptical about the low-level PvE experience and about grinding (which I immensively dislike and have a lot tolerance for).

3 BWEs and 4 stress tests played, and i'm still undecided on my first main character to 80+.

Although in the end, all 5 slots will have one of each race which I'll hopefully play to cap.

Need a fifth stress test.

I think you would have liked it better if you started in a different area. I felt that the human extreme lowbie area was underwhelming, and like you said, very 'samey'. It eventually opens up to something awesome around level 6-7, but yea, everything before that is kinda weak.

ive only done the norn area, but thought it was a lot better, and hear that the other areas are also quite good

Game crashed for me a bunch of times. I submitted bug reports for each. Like another user stated - the graphics slider made me crash, too. I was min/max for screenshots to show the difference.

Oh man... This game. The combat is absolutely superb, the world is amazing looking, and the questing and leveling experience is incredible. A few concerns and questions, however: While I love the dynamic events, people don't really seem to interact all that much; maybe this will change once the game launches, although playing with a solid party for questing makes this point moot. Secondly, I'm really digging the warrior and will probably main one, but do you guys think this will end up being the most-played class? Warrior types seem to always end up that way. If that's the case, I think I might choose a different class.

warrior, ele, and guardian will be the most played classes. my guess would be in that order of popularity

Every class I've tried, I've ended up enjoying. Try 'em all until one suits you, and if it's still the Warrior, then play it. Plus, even if it is the most-played class, if you get really good at it you'll stand out for your skill.

Nice to know.

I'm planning to make my first character an Asuran engineer.

I only picked human this time around because the server kept crashed during character creation, so I went through it as quickly as possible. Do all races start in different locations?

yup, though you can visit any of the starter locations at level 2 (after the intro)

Yeah, they all have their own starting areas.

Was hoping they'd improved the mesmer. Nope. :( illusions still buggy and shattering after your main target dies. Ele for launch it is!

The amount of asskicking I dished out as my Thief tonight amazed even myself.

Well, to be fair, he IS the Bat, so I guess it's to be expected.

Have we decided on which server we are going to roll on, on headstart? Also, what's the guilds contingency for when the server fills up and other can't join? I ask because my fiance and a few friends were planning on running on the same server and joining the guild.

If for some reason the server is filled (the server was chosen carefully), you can still join the guild and guest on the GAF server no problem. The only thing you cant do is play WvW while guesting. That is tied to your server

I would suggest that if by chance when you go to make a character and if our server is full, don't be so hasty to jump to a different server because ANet can increase the caps very quickly as needed and don't need to take anything down to do so.
