How do you feel about giant phones/phablets?

Isn't it all getting a bit ridiculous? I mean the Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Galaxy S3 are already pushing it in the size department. Then you've got the Note at 5" and it's sequel that is supposed to be a whopping 5.5". Where does it end? Will we soon have a phone the size of a Nexus 7 being made?

I think the sweet spot was hit when this was released:

The Nexus S. With a 4" screen, it was just big enough to hold and use one-handed and the screen provided ample real estate. Of course it wasn't long before this was not big enough and Samsung started pushing 4.5+" phones. Now only B-tier phones are made at 4" and that's a damn shame.

I feel like this guy whenever I see stuff like the Galaxy S3 or the Note in strores:

When will the madness end.

I recently switched back to using the iPhone 4s completely from the Galaxy Nexus. While lying down or on the go with a cup of coffee the 4 inch + screens are a pain to use in my hand.
I don't think I have small hands, but I understand why people prefer screen real estate even if it's more uncomfortable to use.

Madness will never end

I can't imagine using something bigger than my current phone, a Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000
It's a little old now but I don't care, I only use Twitter/Facebook/GAF/Whatsapp so whatever, this thing should last me at least 1.5 more years.

OG Galaxy S is sweet spot for one hand. I think when the new Iphone hits I'm going to prefer it tho

Easily, if you have the Galaxy S it's still up to par for pretty much everything. No need for anything else and it'll last for probably 3 more years if you squeeze it out (besides you can also root if you really need the new Android)

I loathe the word "phablets."

While I totally understand the enjoyment and desire some people have for a larger screen, I think the "phablet" size is kinda overkill.

Still, I kinda prefer a phone to be a small-ish device, even as they're becoming more and more connected. As an iPhone user I hope Apple doesn't join the expansion brigade and make it dramatically larger (i.e: I hope the 5 is smaller than some of the larger Android devices that aren't giant-sized)

4.5 inches should be the max and 4 inches should be the minimum.

I have a Galaxy S and it's perfect: you can use it one handedly without extending your thumb. The GNex is also great, while it has a 4.65 inch screen, the software buttons make the actual screen space around 4.3 inches.

I really cant wait for the iphone screen to get bigger that way people can get over this "3.5" is the perfect size." B.S. its too small. 4" to 4.3" Is fine for one hand.

Yep for smartphones. 3.5 inches is way too small for a smartphone unless you have baby hands.

I find the iPhone to be a bit too small at 3.5", but 4.5" is the largest I'd use and even then it would depend on how think the phone is. For me, 4"-4.3" seems to be perfect.

i like the size of the iphone 4s and see no reason for apple to change except for perceived public pressure on blogs and things and getting good news....

i like the idea of increased screen real estate but not at the cost of it being bigger in my pocket. when the iphone first came out it was already bigger than other smart phones.

I was just in Hong Kong recently - and i think its approximately 2/3rds of people there have samsung phones and 1/3rd iphones whereas in Australia its definitely the other way around. ppl in Hong Kong definitely feel the need to have a new phone every six months whereas i know quite a few people are still on iphone 3GS.

Also its amazing how alot of people have not upgraded from the 3GS to the 4s, but some people are happy to run a laggy OS.

I currently have the Galaxy Nexus and while I like the size because I have horrible eyes, I honestly find the HTC Sensation size (4.3") probably better for most as it's the same length but not as wide, making it a bit easier to hold.

I personally wouldn't want to have one as a phone at that size, but I have a tall friend who loves the Note and is looking forward to the bigger one that's coming out. It definitely fits his hand better than an iPhone does.

Haven't used one, but, unlike you whiners, I have giant fucking man-hands with long, Lovecraftian tentacles in place of mortal fingers, so they shouldn't be a problem to me.

Why do people seemingly get so offended that others like larger phones? Every thread on this is filled with that kind of nonsense.

Because everyone has the same sized hands right?

Let's say they did. It's not about just about being able to handle a phone one handed. Do you ever think the benefits of browsing, viewing media, etc on your phone?

There is a trade off and most people I know accept that trade off like it ONLY IF they use their phone for more than just texting and facebook.

Phablets are just bastard children of large smartphones and tablets in my opinion.

For what it's worth I think the Galaxy Nexus is ok at its size, but then again I have hands large enough to use the screen without having to move my hand around a lot.

I'm not going to be satisfied until I have a 7" 1920x1080p phone in me...

NOT A SINGLE FUCK IS GIVEN

GIMME THIS PHONE

My nexus one feels perfect for me. It feels like 3 and a half inches long. Not sure what the exact specifications are but it feels great.
