How do you feel about giant phones/phablets?

My first real smartphone was the samsung galaxy S / captivate. That is a very nice compromise size.

Thing is the S3 is actually more pocketable, far better for everything but one handed use - even that is fine if you are a like me (6'2").

Dunno - I think they go even smaller top and bottom bezels than an S3 and cap out right around this size....maybe a touch over 5 inch with virtual buttons, a bit under with dedicated.

What happened is that phones stopped being phones...the usage is heavily biased towards non phone functions, with bluetooth headsets picking up any serious phone work.

Basically the only real concerns are now - does it fit the pocket fine? can it work for one handed use as needed? something like the S3 is a yes for #1. Iffy for #2. A 4-4.5" gets you easy one handed but man....is it a compromise for other uses after a 4.8"

I switched from an iPhone 4S to a Galaxy SII after the 4S got water damaged. While I don't hate the S2, I'm still not a fan of how large it is. I have above average sized hands and I still find that I have to contort my fingers sometimes to click certain apps one-handed.

Had to send my Inspire to HTC for repair (I won't go off on a tangent about how much HTC support sucks), had to use my iphone 3gs for a while. Couldn't wait to get the Inspire back. iphone is just too small.

If I were getting one now, it would be either Note or S3. Have to see what's out in January when I can upgrade. Whatever I get, it won't be another HTC.

I can barely fit my iphone with the case in my pocket as it is. If they keep getting bigger I'm gonna have to find a man purse or something.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I am jonesing pretty hard for the Galaxy Note right now, knowing to wait for the Galaxy Note 2 unveil and seeing what that does to prices, not that I'll probably still be able to afford either the shiny new or old unless I swing some shit this month or next.

I'm coming at it more for the pen and artist applications, but the humongous screen estate for everything else is certainly welcome.

Doesn't that equal out to somewhere near half an inch wider and near an inch taller?

The GNex is 9.28 mm (.365") wider than the 4S. I have a hard time believing that would be a make-or-break difference for anyone. It's also a bit taller, yes, but unless you have ridiculously small pockets I don't see how that's significant.

After using the Nexus 7, even the Galaxy Note's screen seems small. On topic, I hated the idea of a phablet, until I bought the Note out of gadget lust. Can't go back to a smaller screen now. One handed operation takes juggling the phone over the palm; but that screen dude. So good.
