Why is Ryan causing laughter? I'm behind on him.

Because his plan will end up with states having to cut even more money for education, healthcare, etc and it will pretty much destroy medicare? What other reason do you need? Name one thing he has said he wants to do that would benefit anyone other than millionaires?

again:
  1. wants to replace medicare with coupons to pay for tax cuts. despite:
  2. spending his entire career in the public sector on taxpayer money
  3. no foreign policy experience
  4. known to have no interest in politicking. In fact, isn't he the one that decided to charge people for his town hall meetings to prevent protests?

I could see Ryan as the top of the ticket, but I don't see how he adds any value as a VP

to quote kos:
It really WAS a bold move by the Romney campaign, putting their sole reliable constituency -- old white people -- in play

why do young people dislike ryan? people our age are gonna get completely screwed out of social security he wanted to reform it instead of kicking the can down the road

I can't recall if the Romney campaign floated Ryan's name with any serious effort before. Did he, and what was the reaction? They are going all-in on cutting government. What are Ryan's immigration views?

He basically wants to destroy the few parts of the federal government that are actually really popular, plus he will just double the view that Romney is a robber baron who steals from the poor/middle class to give to the rich and corporations in tax cuts.

On the plus side, Republicans love him. Well, the old people who don't know about what he wants to do to Medicare anyway.

Kiss Florida goodbye Mittens, you horrendously incompetent pandering twit.
In a rational world that would be true. But who knows these days. Florida voted in a Governor that was the CEO of a company that had to pay the largest criminal medicare fraud penalty EVER. MEDICARE FRAUD . . . in Florida. Yet they voted for him.

I honestly don't think Ryan cares about winning or losing in the fall. He seems like he has had his mind set on ascending the ranks of the Republican party and potentially launching his own presidential bid at one point. He really believes that him and his Tea Party brethren are transformational figures in politics.

Ryan should fit right in with Romney's recent shift toward the seemingly technocratic yet mathematically challenged. His recent proposals, in fact, have strong echoes of Ryan's budget plan: promise to balance the budget and grow the economy with vague and mathematically impossible policies yet deny that it's really just a tax cut for the rich. The question is what Ryan himself would get out of it. Even if Romney wins, which is looking more and more unlikely, he will lose his power as the primary right wing policy wonk in Congress.

He would cut college grants

college subsidization has contributed to some of the inflating costs for college tho. If grants were exclusively for very low income but well performing students that would be fine but grants typically go to people that are already well off.

Either you are not in college or you completely misunderstood how "well off" you have to be to be able to afford college without assistance. Cutting grant money to all but the "very low income" will screw over many people because tuition isn't going down in an economic downturn.

What's the difference?

Usually you don't dump good news on the weekend because nobody watches the news on weekends. Obama ran out of time before making his pick since it has to be done before the convention.

I, again, don't read anything into Romney doing this on a Saturday Friday night but the situations aren't the same

I wonder if this will have any major effect on Congressional races. Wasn't the general Democratic plan to try and tailor the Ryan budget to each separate race? Could this feasibly improve Democratic chances of retaking the house?

I don't see the dems retaking the house, but it will definitely have a down ticket impact
