Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

For the last two stress tests I've been playing with my new mechanical Keyboard, Ducky Shine. I think this might be the best gaming related peripheral that I have had. It's not that it gives you super powers gaming wise, but it's just so damn good. If you are looking for a new keyboard, skip the Razer and try this. It's really amazing. It comes with different kinds of LEDs. Mine are blue (backlighting) and the keys are cherry MX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDHp4jir8Bc
Note : this is my first mechanical keyboard, so that probably also influence me bias-wise. I've bought 3-4 keyboards in my life, but probably used over 20 different kinds.
I'm the same as you: just got my first mechanical keyboard, but it's a Zowie Celeritas.

Personally I would recommend someone try out one of the CM Storm Quickfire Rapid for those tight on cash. It's essentially a rebranded Filco and those are pretty good keyboards. $80 vs. $145 is a pretty easy call for people unsure of whether they want a mechanical keyboard or not.

I do have to admit I love my Ducky Shine though. What kind of switches did you go with? I'm guessing Red judging by your link. I'm using Browns and I think I might go Blue if I decide to get a Shine 2. The only thing that will get me to consider a Shine 2 would be if it actually saved my backlight settings on reboot though.

People were talking about how to stop auto-attacking but as I was playing some PvP yesterday as guardian, my problem was actually how to keep autoattack going. Every time my enemy managed to put even few feet between us, my autoattack turned off. In the course of 30 seconds of combat, I had to turn autoattack back on maybe ten to fifteen times. Is there something I didn't notice or is this it's supposed to work? I spent probably half of my time trying to monitor if my autoattack was still going. I don't actually remember having this problem in previous beta events. Or maybe I was just too tired, considering the stress test started at 2AM local time.

And before anyone asks, yes, I had my first skill as autoattack skill. It had the glowing borders on the icon and so on.

Alright, I tried Ranger, Mesmer and Necro now, played a bit Guardian and Engineer, did a whole lot of Elementalist and decided to go with my first hunch, Warrior.
Do you think there might be a point where I just go "daaamn, Warrior is so boooring" due to its lack of different mechanics, pets (which I don't like that much) and general extravaganza? It's so much fun, but I can imagine the class getting a bit stale after some time if all you do is damage, damage and more damage :/

Maaan, so much stuff to choose from -.-

Personally, I plan to go pretty supportive with my Warrior and have a build set around banners. Damage is not the only thing you can do, get a 1h+warhorn and all the banner skills and you're a support machine.

You've got so many weapons to choose from, a well-balanced (if not OP class) and you can roleplay as a Dark Souls character, what more do you want?

I've seen several autoattack tweaks in the Options menu.

OK, so I'm ready to play more now. Kinda hooked on the idea of Mesmer once I'm bored of Midget Guardian.

Have no desire to play as Norn or Charr. Tree people seem odd too, but I've seen a few screenshots where people have made them look really good.

Mechanical Keyboard: I am glad that others feel the same. When I just got it I thought I was too happy about it. I thought that my mind was justifying the high price for a keyboard, but I simply love it. I love typing on it. The buttons feel better than any controller. WASDing is almost like using a 360 analog stick because there are so much travel and depth in the keys. It's like I can press much further down than with any other input device. It makes a lot of noise, so my room mates (two girls) can hear from the other room if I am gaming or typing for productivity. If they know I am sitting at the computer and they can't hear the keyboard they just naturally assume that I am watching porn hehe. I might have to start typing while I watch porn then!!

I was going to get a Filco, but I wanted the backlighting because I type in the dark a lot. Then the RazerUltimate was the option, but I didnt like the size and all the extra added media keys. I can type really fast and I've taught myself to blind type because I spent my teenage years in my basement getting good at fps and eating dinner at the same time. It's a skill that I am both proud and ashamed of.

This Ducky is very heavy. I like that. I am afraid of anything "made in china" as far as build quality goes but this is so well build. And the four added W A S and D keys are a really nice subtle touch. This feels like getting a car that is really fun to drive. Like one of those great Mercedes cars. It makes it more fun to chat, do school work. I'm so happy I got this. I want to make a user review or become a missionary in Uganda explaining the benefits of mechanical keyboards!
My keys are Blue btw!

My main will be a Warrior. Nothing surpasses the martial arts. The acrobatic nibleness of the Sword'n Broad and Greatsword. These are the values I behold.

But I think Warrior is immensely versatile and I think that Warrior like the other classes changes completely when equipping them with other weapons.
The Elite skill with the banner is amazing because its a new weapon. 1-4 gives great polearm/spear-on-land type skills, including a bladestorm. Not only that but the banner looks cool and gives buff to everyone, and it can even be used by friendlys. This is my third weapon in every build I have.

When I want to go for a completely different playstyle for variation I go Axe/Axe-Rifle. That setup turns it into something completely else.

I suggest taking the class which is most fun and then have one ALT to start with. Make the alt something completely different. Something to work on when you get tired of your main character. if your main is a good melee damage dealer, then make an alt which is a ranged support character, or a crafter or someone that tries to get to 80 by just doing pvp. I like this way of playing because variation is the spice of life and because playing the complete opposite often reminds you of what is cool about your warrior, that the grass is not greener on the otherside as well as getting an understanding of the concepts of the other classes which can even make you better at playing your main, indirectly.

I'm like that for Charr and tree people, but norn are like cool viking bros.

ive got some questions if you folks dont mind..

1- what is the beta status? is it for the weekend only? and if so only if you preorder?

2- is there somehow to not pay euro prices? the official site is asking for 55euro, which is real pricey =/

1 - There are no more Beta Weekend Events. If more stress tests are announced before the official release, you'll know it shortly in advance, and it's for pre-purchases only.

2 - I have paid the whole 55 euros and I think it's a fair price when you think of how much content there is and how many hours you can expect to play the game. (Unlike Diablo 3 - I'll never get those 45 euros back)

"Beta weekends" are done. They are throwing out random stress tests though, but nobody knows if they will have any more. You have to pre-purchase, unless bought on Amazon, which gets you in, should there be any more stress tests.

As for the price, keep watching for deals from Green Man Gaming. They have had quite a few. Only thing with them, is they have run out of codes, so you won't be able to get into any extra stress tests (if they have any more), and I believe you would have to wait until actual release and not be able to get in head start.

Please correct me if I am mistaken.

Sadly the MH dagger is actually the worst necro NH right now because each of its 3 skills have a different range, with the autoattack being the shortest, hopefully they fix it but yea I'd just avoid using it atm. As for autoattack, if you want to toggle it off, just highlight the skill and hit ctrl+rightclick

By the way, I tried crafting for the first time yesterday and I loved it. It really isn't as complicated/overwhelming as it looks like. Just make sure to recycle the equipment you don't use and 'Send to collectible' every crafting material you'll find and you won't even have to grind for them when you want to craft better gear. On top of that, it gives you XP!

2 - Check (online)retailers? In the Netherlands there are multiple places selling from 40 to 45 euro.

Absolutely this. In hindsight, I would have probably bought the 120(?) Euro LE just to show my appreciation. 55 Euros may sound harsh, but remember it's a MMO, without monthly fees, and it's a really, REALLY fun one.

They're not giving out any more, but if you have one of the beta-only keys that were given away before the other BWEs you can also play the stress tests with those.

Mechanical keyboards are cool, but I'm the opposite way with keyboards - I love a keyboard with responsive, ultra short press keys. For gaming I use one of the Apple aluminum keyboards (even though my gaming PC isn't a Mac); it's the most comfy keyboard I've ever used.

I think those use the scissor switches IIRC. I like the haptic feedback on those but man do I hate recessed keys. It's doesn't matter what type of switch is under it I just can't stand using them.

It's a shame all the BWEs are done. I wonder when/if they will have a demo program like GW1 had. Just 10 hours of unfettered access. I know I would put money down to keep on playing.

You should check out the Logitech Illuminated...keys aren't very recessed for a scissor switch keyboard. Still my favorite keyboard to date...I just hope they eventually release a no ghosting version of it.

I touched the surface of crafting and saw how good it looked, so stopped straight away as I didn't want to spoil it for retail. Think this is the first game where I'm going to go Cook/Chef, as that seems pretty 'exciting' for a change.

There is actually an even better feature than this. You can send ALL of your collectibles to your bank by using the options menu on your bag. Lot better than going through your materials individually and sending them to your bank. Just found that out in the stress tests.

Well, i really dont think you can spoil crafting sincce it all follows a basic formula that is very easy to follow. Well, cooking doesnt, and if you want some spice (sorry for the bad Retro pun), that is definitely the one for you since it definitely does not follow the standard formula. Problem is, is that it takes a ton of time, will cost a lot of money, but it definitely sounds the most interesting.

Down to preference I guess. ;) I really like recessed keys.

This is fucking awesome.

By the way, has anyone here enabled 'auto-loot' in the Options? I'm not sure if I should activate it but I might eventually do it, out of laziness. The only problem is that you'll have to actually open your inventory to check what you've picked up, I suppose.

After having some time to digest, I've come to the conclusion that it's very possible to go into WvW from level 2. With two caveats. First, you have to roam with a group. Second, you should have a decent amount of experience from playing other characters. If you've already gone into WvW with a level 10 character and were able to solo guards and other players, then I'd say you could take a level 2 character in and not get yourself completely destroyed. Things will still be hard to kill at the beginning, but you won't be wasting your time running into situations that are bad for you and spending all your money on armor repairs. I was only defeated three or four times during the stress test on a thief I used from level 2-6, and all but one of those times was because of lag.

Amazon is out of the prepurchase codes they were giving for just pre-ordering. Now if you pre-order, you won't get a code for the last minute stress tests, nor for the 3-day headstart. You should get a code for the 1-day headstart though.

This is fucking awesome.

Not true. When you auto-loot, there's a pop up right by your mini-map that tells you what you just picked up. You can then mouse over the pop-up before it disappears for more details, or click on the pop-up to immediately bring up your inventory menu. It's very convenient.

Yup. Lot better for me since I use a controller. Also, considering that 3/4s of the stuff you pick up is junk and crafting materials, it really doesnt matter. You can easily see if its a weapon or something important when the item 'flashes' or 'plops' into your bag on the lower righthand side of the screen. Simply check the bag then

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted to know. I'll definitely enable it then.

Vergil summons light-made swords, has a move where he sends out these ranged air slashes (like Zealot Defense), is lightning fast and even teleports around (like Flashing Blade), and his skills tend to emit bluish light. :) It's one of the non-obvious ones (as he has a very aggresive style), but it makes all sense (in my deranged mind, at least) once you connect all dots.

Gotcha, thanks!

I second this recommendation. I just bought one last week and it's an amazing keyboard for the price. Would definitely go for the red switches: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823129006

edit: crap double post

I'm sure they will fix that since I doubt that is working as intended. Cant say i plan on buying any pets so it really wont matter to me if they dont anyways

There are bags you can buy off the trading post / from certain professions that 'lock' in whatever items you place into that specific bag, making them immune to collapsing bags / sending to bank.

i love auto-loot all i do is spam f lol, i check to my right to see what it picked up. i do agree sometimes you forget to see what you got and you open your bag and you have no idea what it was you picked up, they should add a small glow the first time you open your bag like in diablo 3.

i remember my post along time ago about how they should just give you the item instead of clicking it, especially during massive zerg events or WvW because sometimes you forgot to hit f and you might have some cool gear that you missed.

Is the Ranger longbow bugged? I was getting a lot of "obstructed" messages when my targets were in plain sight. Could have been because of lag, yes. But it happened waaaay too often, which is a shame because it's my favorite weapon in the game.

I wish there was a small glow, yes, but I disagree with just giving you the item. They already just give you money for completing dynamic events. If you missed something, it doesn't mean it was some epic loot pull that you won't get a better version of in the next hour.

Of you're still worried about missing drops, then remember the golden rule: whenever golden numbers (exp) appear across your screen, check your feet or look for the interact banner.

I'm going to chalk it up to lag. There's really no way for us to compare right now though.

thanks for the anwsers, I didnt see any of the deals in GMG, so thats too bad

any chance I can get a link?

My Hom Update.

I'm thinking from here:

2 more weapons of any sort (approx 200k) + 1 pt
3 more armor (approx 225k (75k each) + 3 pt
Pet/Rare Pet/Hero + 2 others.. +5 pts
3 more titles (finish campaigns ) + 3 pts
+1 Unique mini + 9 more minis +2 pts

That will get me to 30. Unless someone has a better plan? :P

That will get me to 30. Unless someone has a better plan? :P
No companion statues ?
Those are like the easiest to get.

Edit: You can easily get 7 points with companions.
For weapons, you could always grind war supplies for 2 Oppressor weapons.
Get black moa chick for unique pet.
Also, it's sometimes better to grind Titles (like Asura, Human, Vanguard, etc) instead of gold, unless you really nailed the farming down.

Can't speak for PvP but at least when I was playing a necro and using daggers, which have a really short range my autoattack turned off the minute I wasn't up at the monster's face. Any movement like dodge would turn it off immediately.

Maybe there's some new(?) feature that autoattack turns off if you get out of autoattack range? I found it pretty bad though, I had to constantly keep hammering 1 to keep attacks going.

It's always been like that, I think. This plays quite differently to WoW, in the sense that pressing 1 in WoW means "autoattack that enemy once I'm in range", and in GW2 it means "attack right now, even if there's nothing in front of me". The autoattack thing is really an extra (and wasn't in the original design document even).

Hey, that's great! More options are always welcome.

I don't think the auto loot function works yet, I had it enabled but I still had to spam F everywhere I went

That's not what it does. It's so that a loot window doesn't pop up and make you click on each thing

I still wish they put in aoe auto-loot.
It's in SWToR and Mist of Pandaria is adding it.

Yes, it only took WoW eight years. :D Perhaps let's give ArenaNet some time? I mean, the game literally isn't out yet.
My only problem with spamming F is when there's other stuff (like dead ranger pets :P). Also, with all the stuff going on, perhaps the loot sparkles should be more obvious.

No companion statues ?
Those are like the easiest to get.

What he said, go after these you can get at least 5 points quickly...

It cheaper to get the hero armor for the Eye of the North heroes, because people farm them with ease, get 5 characters and capture the black Moa bird and that's 5 points...

Edit:it's called Cloth of the Brotherhood buy those for dirt cheap from Central Transfer Chamber, they should be more than 4keach...

You can also get some for your nightfall companions pretty easily but for some reason they're super difficult to farm after you get just a couple of them.

I still wish they put in aoe auto-loot.
It's in SWToR and Mist of Pandaria is adding it.

Just spam f as you're walking over an area?

I love the "deposit all collectables" thing, at first simply for the convenience, but I've recently realized it plays an important role in the greater game design. Most traditional MMOs are built around hub areas which are where plays receive and turn in quests. These areas also tend to house merchants, banks, etc. While GW2 has capital cities with merchants, banks, crafters and all, the lack of a traditional questing structure means players don't need to return all the time for quests. But even without quests, in the traditional mmo players still need to return to a hub to deposit items, sell at the auction house, and sell vendor trash. Without some of the additional considerations Arenanet has made, perhaps the biggest advantage of the dynamic event system would be lost.

Exploration would be stifled as players would still be forced to return to town at certain intervals. You'd finish a dynamic event, see a new one start and then say, "Oh, wait. My pack is full. Crap, guess I better head back." You would then miss that next event and any following it in the chain. GW2 side stepped this issue with a few features like the "deposit all collectibles button." The vast of majority of items I get are either crafting mats or junk that can be salvaged into crafting mats. Each time I've found my pack is full I just dump my mats and keep going. Another thing that helps is the fact that you can sell to karma merchants and many npcs become karma merchants after dynamic events. The trading post can be accessed from anywhere as well so the only compelling reason to return to town is crafting and banking.Even then, there are settlements with crafting stations scattered around the zones and with the addition of banking access from the crafting menu there's really nothing forcing you to return to town if you don't want to.

Pardon the length of my spiel, but it's something that occurred to me and I couldn't help but marvel.

I wish there was a small glow, yes, but I disagree with just giving you the item. They already just give you money for completing dynamic events. If you missed something, it doesn't mean it was some epic loot pull that you won't get a better version of in the next hour.

Of you're still worried about missing drops, then remember the golden rule: whenever golden numbers (exp) appear across your screen, check your feet or look for the interact banner.

you are right there is no superior gear in the game you will slowly always get good gear regardless of level. i didnt know about the achievement still giving you loot on the floor.
