Wizards is such an incompetent group of idiots. I try to make an account for Magic Online and I get some error about my billing information but it still counts as a "request" even though it won't go through and now I have to pick a new username. What the fuck is this shit?

My trading posts came today. My Entreat the Angels came a day ago. I can't wait to build this deck. I'm not typically a control style player, but I want to make this work.

I might not be sober right now. But I'm excited, Magic-GAF. And I love you guys :)

I wish I wasn't sober right now. :( What is the decklist? What are you using trading post for with entreat?

Going to run Mycosynth and Ichor Wellsprings to draw cards and lands, Oblivion Rings and Terminus and other currently blanking-on-them cards for control purposes. Going to run Batterskulls and Wurmcoils for later game shenanigans. Day of Judgments. Basically mono-white/artifact control lockdown style. Might mix in a Rhox Faithmender to double my life gain, but I have NO idea if that will work or not yet. Entreat the Angels is a good way to take advantage of the 15 lands I should have by turn 8, if my experience with playing these type of decks holds true.

Trading post is so fucking badass. I've got a monoblack version I played tonight, stomped all over Naya Pod (surgically extracted his ancient grudge after the first one in game 3 which stopped his artifact hate and let me play like game one all over again), Get Er Dungrove, Mono Blue Delver, lost to BR zombies (narrowly, messengers and gravecrawlers just wont go away and couldnt quite stabilize) and a UW Delver (game 1 just getting rolled by a sword of war and peace and mana leaked removal spells all day long with only 4 mana in play and game 2 all I could do was draw fucking wellsprings, mana and talismans with not a single sweeper and only one tribute to hunger all game). Here's the list I'm playing:

20 Swamp
3 Buried Ruin
1 Ghost Quarter

1 Ratchet Bomb
2 Mycosynth Wellspring
3 Ichor Wellspring
3 Pristine Talisman
3 Trading Post
1 Lashwrithe
3 Solemn Simulacrum
2 Wurmcoil Engine

2 Curse of Deaths Hold
4 Mutilate
1 Black Suns Zenith
2 Liliana of the Veil
2 Tribute to Hunger
3 Go for the Throat
1 Doom Blade
2 Consume Spirit
1 Sorins Vengeance

SB
2 Phyrexian Crusader
3 Vampire Nighthawk
2 Barter in Blood
1 Lashwrithe
1 Ratchet Bomb
1 Witchbane Orb
1 Sorins Vengeance
1 Mindslaver
2 Surgical Extraction
1 Sever the Bloodline

Definitely needs some Phyrexia's Core to replace 2 Buried Ruins or 1 Ruin and the Ghost Quarter, and I dont really like the consume spirits, may put a second vengeance maindeck and another lashwrithe. Also, Goat tokens with lashwrithe is badass. Just saying.

Did you get that decklist from somewhere? I usually only see 1 consume unless it's running the new lili.

Nah, this is my list (obviously inspired by decks I've seen online, but tweaked with cards I had available and what I theory-crafted out to be a good build...ie I have no batterskulls and it makes me sad. Also no Grafdiggers Cages or Nihil Spellbombs, luckily never saw Reanimator and I was able to handle Zeniths/Pods with board sweeps)

Overall I think it went really well for a new deck I'm just learning to pilot, and I can make some adjustments now to make it more efficient. Also, Boros Humans nowhere to be found so the Phryexian Crusader in the board was just dead space.

Ya, crusader is EXTREMELY hit or miss but when it hits... Oh boy.

Cool, it looked similar to decks online so I was curious. I see consume used mostly for new lili and if you're using old lili or sorin then I see vengeance used more. Might be worth trying a second vengeance instead to see if it gels better.

I wanted to Lashwrithe a Crusader against some deck with only red or white blockers. Would have been so freaking badass. But alas, not today.

Haha, usually you don't even need that. If you have one or god forbid a second one it's usually really easy to out race them. Used to have it in my tezz deck, right when R/W humans was first being used a lot.

I got stomped last week playing an (inferior to post) mono black control by boros with dual land, land double champion, land thatchers, it was 12 damage on turn three. Just disgusting. Game over before I even hit 4 lands in play.

Haha, I played one that I think it was champion, then lightning mauler, then silverblade. Luckily turn 3 I played a crusader, T4 I drew another crusader and then like 2 turns later I got a metamorph. :lol The second game he was slightly slower but I still got one crusader out which is all I needed since he couldn't race me then. I don't really know anyone who still plays it now but those couple of weeks it was insane to have that in your sideboard, so good. The guy was a friend of mine and he was so pumped to play boros humans for so long and then that happened, I thought he was gonna slug me. Mass removal shouldn't be too hard though since you're monoblack control though especially with how weak they are. You might have to mull do it but it shouldn't be too bad either way.

Boros Humans is one of those rogue decks that will steal wins out of nowhere, but just doesn't have the staying power to take down a tournament. But it's oh so fun when you get the nut draw and just go to town.

I made a mono-white deck that drew inspiration from monowhite and monoblack decks I'd seen. Basically artifact ramp, sweepers, o-rings, and entreat/sun titan for win conditions.

I'm now converting that to a mono black deck I think (mostly because I want to try out Army of the Damned and Griselbrand).

I don't have any Trading Posts, Lili's or Mutilates, but I think for now I'm going to substitute Barter in Blood (3x) and Black Sun's Zenith (3x). Playing 12-14 swamps will allow me to play a bunch of utility lands (Buried Ruin, Ghost Quarter, etc...).

I'm wondering how people have found the Wellsprings to be. I didn't use them in my mono white deck, instead opting for 4x Pristine Talisman and 4x Sphere of the Suns. I really like the idea of ramping if possible. I'd imagine a Turn 3 Solemn Simulacrum or Barter in Blood would really help the deck get ahead by stalling the game out against aggro. Card draw could be a bit of a problem (it was for my monowhite), but I just don't like the amount of work the Wellsprings take to get going, especially without an easy way to recur them from the graveyard other than Buried Ruin.

This is the build I recently used:

4x Oblivion Ring
4x Pristine Talisman
4x Sphere of the Suns
4x Solemn Simulacrum
3x Ratchet Bomb
3x Day of Judgment
2x Terminus
2x Phyrexian Metamorph
2x Tumble Magnet
2x Entreat the Angels
3x Sun Titan
1x Wurmcoil Engine
25x Land (12 Plains, 1 Island, some number of Buried Ruin, Phyrexia's Core, and Ghost Quarter)

It was something like that, the numbers may be slightly off. It pretty much ate aggro decks for dinner, and the Tumble Magnets kept me alive against mono-green infect (otherwise I would have lost easily because of how dangerous those decks can be without instant speed removal)... Unfortunately the deck kinda gets hosed by control. Entreat is such a frustrating card to play against. I usually completely side out all my sweepers against control, but I think I kept like 2-3 of them in because otherwise my only out to a miracle'd Entreat was Ratchet Bomb. I would definitely play with 4x Ratchet Bomb though, they are solid against Delver because of how by turn 2 or 3 they may be too ahead to catch up at that point if they have counterspells in hand.

Sideboard was Timely, Purges, another Terminus, another Entreat, and other stuff...

I really thought tumble magnet was bad. After I tried him in my U/B artifact control deck though, my opinion has changed. Beginning of combat step tap your dude is so cute.

Played a couple of M13 drafts last week, won the first and went 3-1 with four other dudes in the second. The die was cast and I ended up fourth :( Quite like this format for some reason. Maybe because AVR was so much moldy shit?

Arms Dealer is a dick.

The big problem w/ Tumble Magnet is Geist of St Traft.

Also, Bonfire is lkely not going to go down any time soon. Card is ridiculous.

I've seen trading post decks do pretty good with Spine of Ish Sah.

God I can't wait for that stupid card to cycle.

Yeah, I have to get my hands on some Ratchet Bombs. I forgot all about that card for this. That list looks really similar to what I was going to end up cooking up. Glad to see you already have a report on how it's going to play, I need to figure out how to round off against control

They just fixed my username! :D It's a shame it doesn't work on OSX though.

Edit: Is there somewhere to get cheaper packs/event tickets? MTGO seems even more expensive than the official shop for them. o.O

You can buy packs from the bots for cheaper then wizards sells them (usually for 3-3.5 tix). Tickets however you gotta get by buying em straight up or selling cards.

Ah, ok. And is drafting done at certain times? It seemed like there weren't many open rooms, maybe 10-15?, and they were all avacyn or innistrad/dark accension, no M13.

Drafting is 24/7, they fire as soon as they get 8 people.

Drafting is the least cost effective way to play, tho.

Ya, I wanted to try one out of curiosity though. I'm still debating what standard deck to make that is reasonably priced but still good.

Edit: Are there standard tournaments or anything? Only on certain days? I just see a draft button and a play so I assumed play was just random 1v1 matches.

So I put together a 5 color planeswalker commander deck. Its the craziest deck I've made yet. My hope is to genesis wave for like 6 planeswalkers and a doubling season.

Are the planeswalkers just one ofs? It feels like it would be problematic to genesis wave for them.
Yeah, one of each type. I'm leaving our Nissa, Koth, and Tibalt because they aren't that great for the deck. Its full of fogs, board wipes, and recursion. After a certain point, there are too many PWs to deal with, then ultimates start going off. With a nice stack of emblems, its hard to lose at that point.

I had a friend with a crazy RSH deck like that. He could have three or four walkers out by turn five

Yea if you look under tournament play there are on demand 2 player ranked matches (2 tix to enter, win a booster if you win) and 8 player tourneys. There are also daily events going on all the time too.

I'm playing Horde of Notions as my general, and I want to include a Maelstrom Wanderer. I'll double cascade into some PWs, then cast him again with my commanders ability. It will be instant speed value town!

Pressing the "Draft" button jumps you into the fire-on-demand draft lobby (each draft type will automatically start when 8 people join the queue. Pressing the "Play" button jumps you into the "Just For Fun" lobby, where you can start or join a game of any known Magic format for free, just for fun.

The "Menu --> Play" menu at the bottom has plenty more options. Under "Casual Play" you can find "Tournament Practice," which is ostensibly where people go to practice with their serious decks. Under "Tournaments" you have four options:

  • Scheduled Queues: Tournaments which start at scheduled times. They have better prize payouts than fire-on-demand tournaments, but only happen every so often.
  • Release Queues: During release season, this is where you find set release events.
  • Constructed Queues: Fire-on-demand 2-man and 8-man tournaments with constructed decks.
  • Limited Queues: The same thing you get as pressing the "Draft" button off of the home screen.

Hey assholes I no longer need you for magic advice

I got this shit from 1995 at my house

You jelly that i can master magic abd you assholes cant

Okay, I just ran into the most insane brew on MTGO. Here's a rundown of this guy's play:

Turn 1: Mountain
Turn 2: Mountain, Ichor Wellspring
Turn 3: Mountain, Kuldotha Rebirth on Ichor Wellspring, Krenko's Command
Turn 4: Mountain, Krenko
Turn 5: Tap Krenko (12 total goblins), Battle Hymn, Battle Hymn (floating a bajillion mana), Reforge the Soul, Past In Flames, Ichor Wellspring, Kuldotha Rebirth, etc, etc, etc....

It was kind of nuts. Once he drops the "all my goblins have haste" creature, he ends up attacking with a crapton of goblins. Of course, I can't imagine the deck performs at all if you don't draw into a Battle Hymn, but it seems like a really fun deck to play when it all falls together.

Yeah, the deck is verrrry inconsistent and pretty much dies to anything + Mana Leak backup.

Yea I find the kuldotha rebirth goblin variant to be a lot worse then the more standard gobby deck.

That's my current goblin build, it's pretty bananas.

I hope raavnic gets some good goblin cards, love to see tjose assholes come back (although im glad goblin grenade is gonna die a horrible painful death)

Without grenade, there really isn't a viable goblin build in standard. No lords, no swarms...RtR is going to have to bring some interesting goblins to the table to make up for what the deck is losing in rotation. It's barely viable as is.

Were goblins big in ravnica? They let everything of value rotate out so Krenko isn't enough without them support goblins a lot. I'm curious what they do with elves since it already lost a lot but now loses almost everything.
