Ah, it was ravnica that had the choice of colors for casting? I wonder if that will comeback or what mechanic they will replace it with.

Yeah, Ravnica introduced hybrid mana, although each guild only got three cards with it. Shadowmore and Eventide brought it back with a vengeance, a jaw-droppingly huge number of hybrid cards. I'm betting it doesn't come back for Ravnica though

Were there any other mechanics during the block?

Edit: Dredge was ravnica? I get the feeling that will come back... It fits well with innistrad block and the graveyard hate.

Ravnica, I'm curious what they might bring back for return. I just found a list online saying dredge, transmute, convoke, and radiance.

Ravnica had ten keyword mechanics, one for each guild, and its confirmed that every guild gets a new mechanic, so presumably no returning mechanics. They were:
G/W Convoke
W/R Radiance
U/B Transmute
G/B Dredge
G/R Bloodthirst
U/R Replicate
B/W Haunt
U/G Graft
W/U Forecast
R/B Hellbent

Dredge is really awesome and was really hoping that flashback would have added some cool new stuff, but not much (Faithless Looting). Was upset when they said no returning mechanics as well, but still holding out hope.

Yeah, they'll get something in the spirit of their old mechanics, but not the exact same mechanic. So I assume Golgari will get something that interacts with the graveyard, but it won't be dredge.

And if the spoilers are true, we already know that the G/W mechanic is going to be "Populate - Put a creature token onto the battlefield that's a copy of a creature token you control."

I think they were banking on it interacting more with Inn vampires as a competitive B/R strategy but the Innistrad vampire decks never seemed to care about any of the M12 ones

Ya, I'm still not sure how they thought it would work with 4CC and up for all the vamps and then make the format pretty damn aggro lately. They just needed decent drops for the first 3 turns and it would probably be viable.

Here's hoping New Dimir gets Transfigure. Considering it's so related to their previous Transmute ability mechanic-wise...

It's about time for it to pop up anyhow.

Techno, you still play Avernum? If so, at what strength can your fighters start equipping heavy armor without the -5% penalty to hit?

My birthday was yesterday, and one of my presents was this bad boy:

umezawas_jitte.jpg

Now, I can see it's a versatile card. But are there any specific sort of applications I'm overlooking, or is it good because it just does so much?

I also got an AWESOME playmat:

kQhem.jpg

Edit: Also got a Force of Will, a pack of Ice Age and a pack of 8th edition haha

So I've just gotten back into magic in the last couple of years, and right now I'm really getting into tribal decks, (late I know) so I'm worried RTR isn't going to be very fun for me. I don't think multicolored cards are going to fit well with what my current favorite play style is. Looking back at Ravnica I'm sort of glad I missed it..

Anyone know where I can get a playmat tube with a diameter of greater than 2"?

Yeah, the multicolored focus will likely take you out of it. It's probably just best to accept it.

Versatility is its main advantage, I think. Get a few counters on it, and you can use it for combat advantage, removal, or even saving you from otherwise lethal damage in a pinch. For a measly 2 mana + 2 equip, it's pretty insane. Combine with a double striker for even more fun!

I only acquired my own copy recently, and haven't had a chance to use it yet. But whenever my brother's had the chance to use it against me, it's been deadly. Great card.

Nothing wrong with actually experimenting with new stuff. Mono/tribal is fun and all, but decks are stronger with more than 1 color.

Double Strike seems like a great idea with that. Maybe I'll make some sort of double strike commander deck or something.

So, I know this is a crazy idea, but I'm going to go ahead and throw it on the table. If that Commander Arsenal has some crazy cards in it, would any gaffers be interested in going in on it? This might be a good way to score a bunch of expensive cards for cheap.

Just a thought.

Well -shit-, man! That's a good haul, especially the force - never trade it!

And Jitte is good because, for an incredibly low investment of mana, you get an incredibly versatile artifact capable of a number of things.

People undervalue it at first glance because they don't realize how powerful -two- counters is per combat. Best of all, it doesn't even require combat damage to a player: a 1/1 attacking into a wall of blossoms will still give you counters.

So, in an aggressive deck, attacking every turn, you are now able to cast Disfigure on an enemy creature, Titanic Growth your creature, or, if you're in a bind, gain a bit of life.

Every. Single. Turn.

It's repeatable removal, it's an effective +4/+4 equipment for 2 and 2 if everything goes right, and it's pre-sideboarded lifegain against a burn deck.

Card is -crazy-.

I see what you mean about the Jitte. I can't wait to use it. This is my 2nd Force of Will... at this rate, someday I'll have a legacy deck lol

Question about this card:

Say your opponent plays Wheel of Fortune and you have 6 cards in hand. Does it trigger for all of them? Or just once because it's one discard effect?

It would trigger for every card discarded.

Wait a second...

If a creature with double strike hits an opponent while they have Sword of War and Peace equipped, does its ability trigger twice?

I have won many a game with a Mirran Crusader equipped with SoW&P. It's an absolute destruction.

Been having a lot of fun with this crappy deck playing against casuals.

4 abundant growth
4 caravan's vigil
4 farseek
4 rampant growth
4 terminus
3 ranger's path
3 thragtusk
3 sigarda
3 gisela
2 avacyn
1 entreat the angels
1 bonfire

4 cavern of souls
4 plains
4 mountains
12 forests

Gonna cut avacyn and put in 4 thragtusk and sigarda (maybe gisela?) and play it against real decks tomorrow. It'll do terrible but I'm having way too much fun with the deck.

Oh. Oh my. This, plus White Sun, plus new Ajani... oh man.

Still trying to find a tube for this playmat, failing hard. Why do they all have 2" diameter... bastards.

Mono-white cards which specifically benefit or benefit from Equipment:
Armament Master
Auriok Glaivemaster
Auriok Steelshaper
Auriok Survivors
Auriok Windwalker
Brass Squire
Kemba's Legion
Kemba, Kha Regent
Kitesail Apprentice
Kor Duelist
Kor Outfitter
Leonin Den-Guard
Leonin Shikari
Loxodon Punisher
Myr Adapter
Puresteel Paladin
Quest for the Holy Relic
Raksha Golden Cub
Skyhunter Cub
Steelshaper Apprentice
Steelshaper's Gift
Stoneforge Mystic
Stonehewer Giant
Sunspear Shikari
Taj-Nar Swordsmith
Obviously which ones you choose to use will depend on how you build the deck.
It's probably better to use Kemba as your commander rather than Raksha, as Raksha will only be able to come in late game. Kemba can come down turn three (or earlier if you have mana-producing artifacts), and start pumping out Cats.
Cards which tutor for Equipment (Quest, Steelshapers, Stoneforge, Stonehewer, Swordsmith) would be the backbone of the deck, being able to find the equipment best suited for any particular instant.
Equipment card-wise, you already have Jitte. Put in as many of the Mirrodin/Scars block swords as possible. Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Whispersilk Cloak are all very useful (keep in mind that you can't equip a creature with shroud, so you'll have to put Greaves/Cloak on last, or temporarily equip them to something else if you want to equip other things). Just do a search for Equipment on your favourite database, or dig through your collection.

It's a very focused deck idea. I think I'm going to build it to see how it will work, I already have most of those cards.

I'll keep you guys posted

Made a mill/control-shell. Standard. Thoughts?

4 Fog Bank
4 Ponder
4 Thought Scour
4 Mind Sculpt
4 Mana Leak
4 Negate
4 Unsummon
3 Jace M12/M13
3 Snapcaster Mage
3 Devastation Tide
2 Nihil Spellbomb

14 Islands
4 Drowned Catacombs
3 Nephilia Drownyard

I played LSV in a draft last night. Lost 2-1.

LSV?

I find it more fun to make and play decks with a specific theme. Lumping together a bunch of good cards might be quite effective, but it's a bit boring.

As the deck will rely heavily on artifacts, you'll want to be able to stop your opponent from getting rid of them, or bring them back when they do get destroyed. Shrouding them with Fountain Watch (if you can find one), Indomitable Archangel, or Leonin Abunas will be very effective, and of course you have Darksteel Forge and Avacyn, Angel of Hope at the top end of the mana curve. White has plenty of graveyard recursion such as Sun Titan.

Since a lot of Equipment has 'on damage' effects, True Conviction is even more ridiculous than usual. Smacking someone with a double strike, lifelinked creature holding a couple of swords/Jitte usually results in you winning shortly afterwards.

Maybe have a blink effect or two to abuse your enter the battlefield tutors/recursion?

Also, do you have the Kaldra set? With lots of tutoring, they could be pretty good and provide you with a solid backup against board wipes.

Well it's white, so Resto Angel might not be an awful idea. Also, Cloudshift could be a good inclusion as well.
