Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Kept getting graphical glitches, like my armor wouldn't show up until I unequipped, or my character would completely turn light blue for a second.

Didn't have any of this in all 3 BWEs.

I had a bit of that. My armor glitched to grey for a second and then returned to normal after I turned my character. I think there's some glitches in their collusion stuff.

Couldn't get in the game. Damn ju NCsoft! Teasing us like that..

Anyways, bought the digital delux edition, but I can't figure out what the Rytlock Miniature is.
Description: Rytlock Miniature
This rare miniature is a perfect replica of Rytlock Brimstone and will accompany your character on all of their adventures throughout Tyria.

Is it a pet? Because you get a pet, the Mistfire Wolf Elite Skill. So do you get two pets? Im confused :S

It's a Minipet. It'll just run around with you, looking cute :) And you can use it in those Pokemon-ish Pet battles I guess. It won't fight or do anything during standard gameplay though.

Yes. Yes, it is :) That's what Lotro did ;)

And yeah, you can do a lot of non-canon crap with it if you want to, but most of Lotro's civil stuff wasn't as obnoxious as what we'll probably get with GW2 if GW1 is any indicator ^^

Unrelated: Bought the pirate set earlier, and it's freaking awesome. You can do all kinds of stuff with the toy sword, like summoning a parrot pet (sadly flies away after some time, with a huge cooldown) or a cannon (usable), and pirate-y emotes.

Well damn :(

The smaller pic with the bird makes it look like the bird is carrying the Asura by biting it at its neck and lifting it. :lol

Painless stress-test for me. Even managed to do a jumping puzzle, although I did nearly smash my computer up in the process.

Impressed with how well the performance has improved as well.

Decided to jump in and purchased the pre-order just an hour before this stress test and got in when it started. Graphics looked OK and I didn't mind the low-res textures or the low-poly models (I had all settings at their max).

Low... what? Do you have any screenshots you can post, so we can have a look at it? This game has the most graphical detail in an MMO that I've ever seen. It makes TOR, which probably had several times more budget, look like a joke. Do your pics look like this? If they do, do you really think they are low poly/low res?

I understand why you would want that, but considering that transmutation stones are probably a sizable money sink (not to mention a cash shop item for the impatient ones), I don't really see that happening. By the way, what's preventing you from using the "cosmetic" set as a secondary set of armor, and swap them when you want the stats from the other?

Yep, it seems they know how to get people to spend money. :)

I think this is my final lineup:

Will probably buy a couple of other char slots down the line too. Warrior might end up being male (haven't really decide yet) but as far as classes/races I think that's the way I'm going. My Sylvari character had a bit too much junk in the trunk with those robes tho... don't know what that was all about.

Can't wait for the headstart. Got the game when you could pre-purchase but the beta weekends were a mostly no-plays from me. Maybe an hour or two per. Played this hour and it seems to be performing well. I guess knowing the wiping of toons hindered my motive. I've seen enough to see the game is quality but retain a relatively fresh perspective.

Has there been discussion on what server GAF is going on? Low-medium pop? Browsing this thread, there are talks of avoiding mega-guilds, queue times. Was an official server list released?

Cosmetic sets don't have stats, they're purely cosmetic and just use the stats of the armor you've equipped. If the actual armor is broken, there are no stats.

Low-poly for a end-of-2012 PC game no matter how you sugar coat it :-) Trees, roots, bushes, rocks and the ground itself had a little too few polygons to my taste, but like I said I got used to it and it didn't bother me at all.

Why do MEN play as female characters in MMO?

Because we can? Why do females play as males? Why do normal people play as people who can control magic? Why do people who've never harmed a fly kill wolves in games? Shoot arrows at other humans?

Because they can.

Why do MEN play as female characters in MMO?

Some men are comfortable with their identity and sexuality enough to play a character that's vastly unlike their own selves. They don't have the limitation of only being able to play as men that look like themselves in video games.

I want to know WHY some choose female over male, I just don't get it.

Oh, OK, so the cosmetic slots aren't "true" slots, in the sense that they don't hold the item but a "copy" of it. I see. :)

To each their own, and I understand why many would prefer that (more freedom), but I like town clothes being town clothes, and my battle armor being battle armor. The only thing I'm missing is a keybind to toggle between both.

Because they are not insecure 15 year olds? To some (most I'd gather) is about creating a character, not playing a representation of yourself.

My main character is always a representation of myself -- as close as I can get it. Alts are always women because fuck it.

Why do MEN play as female characters in MMO?

Because we like looking at attractive females for hours on end? I make no qualms about how much I love my wife and how much I'm still attracted to her after being married for almost 8 years (on the 21st of this month)! Which is why I'm trying to make my Norn look like her... although she did give me some liberty with her hair since my wife can't find a style she likes for her.

OK, those underwater pidgeons are really something else. That's dedication right there.

I want to know WHY some choose female over male, I just don't get it.

Funny answer: Because if I'm going to be looking at my character's booty for hundreds of hours, it better be a good-looking one.
Serious answer: Because I usually find female characters more interesting than male ones. That's why Rydia is my favorite FF4 character, Terra/Celes are my favorite FF6 characters, and so on and so forth. Happens to me a lot in literature as well.

Heck, GW2's crowning achievement is that it might make me create a human male character. I think I've never, EVER done so when given the choice. Even my Shepard is female (and that was even before I knew anything about Jennifer Hale or listened to her voice).

Some men are comfortable with their identity and sexuality enough to play a character that's vastly unlike their own selves. They don't have the limitation of only being able to play as men that look like themselves in video games.

Probably better put than I did. Also, why would you play anything else than a human? Or (in my case) anything else than an engineer? :D Because that's FREAKING BORING, that's why (not "playing human" necessarily, but certainly "playing ONLY human").

Now the ball is on your court. Why should anyone play exclusively their gender? You're assuming that's the "normal" behavior by default, but can you at least tell us why you think so?

Why do MEN play as female characters in MMO?

For me usually its because females look way better in robes then men in my opinion, I most often play the mage type classes and their gear usually sucks hard for males.

Not to mention in other games female animations were a lot better, in this game they are pretty even though.

Why do MEN play as female characters in MMO?

I usually play female characters because in most MMOs the males are all barrel-chested He-men. Not only do they look ridiculously top-heavy, but that look is totally inappropriate for a stealthy character or aging mage. GW2 actually has a scrawny-looking human model, and even at their most ripped they still look realistic.

The "if I have to look at pixel ass, it better be female pixel ass!" answer has always been jokes. Just play what you want to play.

Also, I don't agree with the (probably unintentional) implication that if you make your toon like yourself you lack maturity or sexual comfortability.

That makes no sense

Neither does your question really.

In any case, in this particular game it's down to the heavy female armor. It's the better looking of the bunch for me, while medium armor looks best on the little people and the Charr, who have no big differentiation between the sexes as it happens with humans. Robes are always 50/50.

Cornrows on those rats look like when fifty year old dudes with illusory hairlines try to fight genetics and time to keep the young look, but in reality look a fool.

Old man-rats.

This reminds me of how much I want them to add a techno viking physique for Norn Males.

And that male Asuras need better hair choices.

AND human males need at least three beard options. AT LEAST!

They just need some facial hair options that aren't thin, douche-baggy lines of scruff. My goatee is thick and manly, not a couple wispy hairs clinging to my upper lip. Almost all of the human male options are like, middle school face-pubes.
