Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Same reason really we choose female navigation systems in our cars. It's just more pleasant. (Oddly enough, it's also more present for women... so w/e)

Cornrows on those rats look like when fifty year old dudes with illusory hairlines try to fight genetics and time to keep the young look, but in reality look a fool.

Old man-rats.

I didn't want to spend too much time making something just for the beta, so I just clicked on some stuff when I did him. My real Asura sure as hell won't get any cornrows!

So, I was talking to a friend of mine last night, and he was trying to convince me to get this game when it comes out at the end of the month. Wasn't so sure, don't really want to get back into an MMO again after WoW. Starting saying how it's a "one time fee" and how it's available for mac(yes, I don't have windows unfortunately). But I said maybe just because he might get it and it's fun to get into new games with friends.

If you guys were to try to convince me, what would you tell me? I'm really not sure, but with some convincing, I might try it out.

My main character is always a representation of myself -- as close as I can get it. Alts are always women because fuck it.

In this game it's really hard to get it close though. Most male faces are either teenage catalog models or very scruffy looking dudes (or animals).

Well, it's not native for macosx. But if you mean with wine, then yeah it'll work.

Runs better than John Wall and crashes less often.

i let my friend use my account during the last beta, and was very close to getting him started on day one, but then the announcements on release date of MoP and TOR going F2P has caught his attention. he wants to see how GW2 will play (by watching me play) end game will convince him if he will try GW2 or not.

It doesn't work for me and I'm actually a girl :(

It works - you just have to be in the right place (like Goldshire on Moon Guard in WoW) with the right about of feminine presence (having a female avatar). I had a female toon and things (clothes, gold) were simply given to me for just standing there and typing in /say.

How dated is the information on that MMO-Champion post everyone is linking to? I don't want to spend my time reading shit that's been patched out or changed in the summer beta weekends...

Also, can Europeans play on the US servers? I want to truly role play and pretend I'm not a dirty poor Euro :-( Or should I just fake a US account somehow?

I believe you can roll on whatever region servers you want, you just need to make sure to get a EU copy because they use IP filtering to check where you're playing from. With a EU client though you can pick US servers.

Is this still in the game? Would certainly be better than the rather basic PVP server browser.

Think I've narrowed it down to:

1 Male Asura Guardian [Chef/Armorsmith]
2 Female Asura Mesmer [Tailor/Artificer]
3 Male Human Thief [Jeweler/??]
4 Female Human Warrior [Weaponsmith/??]
5 Female Norn Hunter [Huntsman/??]

You'll have to teach me to work the mean streets of Lion's Arch.

Jira keeps it updated regularly, so its well worth reading

No, it's not in the game. The sPVP server browser is rather plain.

I don't think they'll update it until they have a new gametype to play. No matter what match you join, it's the same gamemode/maps.

Damn, not for Mac, but I do need Windows....................................

fuck. It's tempting.

Well, Wine apparently works quite well (dont have a mac so obviously havent tried it)

You could always see if Wine works on another game you already own, or some freebie game off of steam.

I'll have you know that I've kept that thread up to date since I posted it.

Damnit Billie, we aren't going to have time for you to turn tricks in Lion's Arch. Besides if you make a similar looking Norn again I'm sure you'll have a grip of newbies following you around offering their assistance in no time.

maybe dumb question but:

is there still an 'end game' or end to the story? It sounds like everything is around dynamic quests, but do you have quest chains/bosses/events that get you to the next zone, and then the conclusion of the story?

One thing I really liked about GW1 is that the story quests told one overarching story that had you moving all around the continent, is that replaced by more freeform events?

I've wondered if they're still finalizing the PvP broswer internally and just haven't bothered to push us something like that because as it stands the PvP browser is quite literally the most incomplete aspect of the game in terms of the UI.

Yes there is. Your Personal Story stretches from creation to 80 where you confront Zhaitan with about 3 missions every 10 levels or so. Every 10 levels presents you with a choice that branches your story in different directions that has an affect on things in your home instance.

The one I made in the stress test on Saturday wasn't being weighed down.

Does anyone see any way I can 3 more points in honor before release without selling my firstborn son (I have 33 plat left to my name), or should I hang it up and stick with what I've got?

It doesn't look like you're going to be able to buy any more points, but it looks like you have some easy statues to get. Just tagging along with a group doing Fissure of Woe, Deep, Urgoz, Underworld, or Sorrow's Furnace will get you a bunch more statues.

This article is great if you're trying to convince friends who played WoW or other MMO's and are hesitant to jump back into another "time sink."

Mantras – updated all mantras to be double cast by default and triple cast with the trait, including the heal. Rebalanced their effectiveness to take this into account

That's interesting but doesn't fix the entire problem with Mantras at all.

Those patch notes also further explain the anti-gold selling restrictions.

Each account, for the first 30 days after its creation, will have its ability to send coins through the mail and guild bank deposits restricted to the account’s net “profit." Profit, in this case, means anything gained from rewards.

This includes: Quests, dungeons, looting, map completion, events, and renown heart mails. All other sources of gold are excluded, such as: trading post, mail, and guild bank withdraws. For example: Earning 1 silver from events means you can send 1 silver through the mail or to the guild bank. You then cannot send more gold until you earn more through the allowed sources.

Currently, hitting this limitation via mail will give you an error message; messaging for this limitation via the guild bank is not yet implemented—it will just fail without giving you a reason.

Hmm, I heard bootcamp is better for dual booting. But does it work well for GW??? Has anyone got into beta with a mac computer?

re: Men playing women - for me it's always been a question of if you're playing as yourself versus playing as a character. If you see yourself as part of the game world and actually relate to the character you're playing, I guess you'd have a tendency to make it as much as like you as possible.

On the other hand if you're just playing as a character that gives you the freedom to do anything. I have a tendency to create all the same characters in all rpgs/mmos I play, usually with the same names and even professions - faces and hairstyle always vary depending on available options, but usually follow the same guidelines.

By the way, I tested the mail pigeon in the stress test - when you're sending mail, the little pigeon comes and picks up your mail as well :)
