Were there any children at convention?

Come to think of it, does anyone know any kids that watch the show?

I know personally three friends that love the show. They are all in college. I seen my little cousins and nieces enough to know that they dont watch the show.

Gender wise, the audience seems to be male oriented even when you dont count the internet. Out of my three friends, one is male and everyone on campus that wears MLP shirts are male too. Even back in high school, i never saw a girl wear MLP shirts.

I guess the female fans tend to hide their love of the show.

There was a decent amount of kids there, apparently some parents drove their kids from as far away as Florida to get there. Granted, the age range was skewed a bit more towards the teens-early 20s crowd.

I liked the one guy who looked to be in his 70's or later with a sign that said "world's oldest brony".

I love bronies; their mountains of pornography have amused me for over a year. Shame I can't post most of that material in the "awesome" fan art thread.

The only issue I have with them is the surprising amount of racism, sexism, homophobia etc that exists in the community, especially when their motto is supposedly "love and tolerance".

Nevermind. Read it wrong.

So does this make you the head Nerd Nazi Amir0x?

But again since you actually attend things like Comic-Con knowing full well what they're like and how terrible fandoms attend such things. You belong in those cons.

Next up for Ami, Fursuits or bad cosplay.

I just think nerds are all too willing to run away from who they truly are. they're always trying to act like they're not this or they're not this. 99% of the time I've ever met a nerd who said they're not this and they're not that, they actually are exactly that.

Nuance obviously isn't the strong suit of many GAFers, but once again, there is nothing WRONG with that. I am making fun of the pretense many in the Brony community put on about their hobby of choice. It's always on display. I think acceptance of who you are is key.

I am a nerd. Why would I have problem with cons? I had a problem with going to cons because I didn't want to be squished next to nerds with bad hygiene, but i eventually got over that. But was I wrong? No, the convention was FILLED with nerds with horrific hygiene.

You have to realize this is a fucking cynical world

If you want to tear something down, you just go to the bad apples, get some bulletpoints off them and have at it

I even went into hating MLP, I was like dudes liking a girls show just screams something is wrong here
Watched a few shows, saw how endearing it was, even commented in Pony-GAF thread asking for pointers on the beginnings and how it started
I watched a few more episodes, didn't really grab me like it did others, I moved on

You can't say Bronies have to love everything that community develops
Some will always be the outcasts, and those are the media darlings that get chased after to become the poster child
You won't see happy couples, or friends enjoying something they like, they'll show you that 1 dude wearing a pink outfit with a tail acting like a pony

You go to comic con NYC, your sister cosplayed a Scott Pilgrim outfit, if I remember correctly
How would you feel if I said the same shit your saying about Bronies to you + your sister

The show’s so unremarkable (I mean, it is well executed and I can see parents genuinely enjoying it with their kids, but it ain’t no PPG or Samurai Jack) that it’s hard not to look at this as a western version of the moe loli phenomenon.

I am a nerd Ami! I really am, I'm what they call a "Retro Gamer". I guess I'm not a very good nerd since I don't engage in fanboy wars over consoles. But I am a nerd none the less. You know I thought at a time I was a brony since I saw a WHOLE Slew of episodes (you like that word? Slew) But since I haven't kept up with it I guess I'm not a very good one.

I'm not denying anything, I'm a nerd but I'm not a hypocrite really since I DONT do the very things I say I hate, I don't go to conventions nor do I Ever , ever ever ever want to.

Your nerdliness on the other hand bothers me, it really hangs me up you know?

How DO I KNOW, that you're not one of the guys who smelled at said Con?

And why'd you hit your mom over South Park?

it's not that you can't also like some good things, chances are tastes would overlap in some arenas. It's just I personally couldn't take your taste as a metric for what types of shows to watch, since loving My Little Pony means your taste is probably too erratic and willing to accept bad shit for me to take as a barometer of quality. I subconsciously mark certain movies, shows and games as products that if I read someone enjoys them, I probably can't use their opinion as a guide anymore. Nothing wrong with them, it's just worthless to try. Our tastes would be by default too different.
You are just making assumptions based on a fallacious premise "he likes X therefore he's likely to be wrong" etc.

And I'd assume they are a number of MLP fans with cultured tastes in things, whether it be literature, film, or poetry. Making strict assumptions based on that metric is fundamentally flawed and illogical. Especially since MLP is a pretty well-liked show in general, it doesn't just appeal to nerds.

What was the point of this thread again?

Nerd superiority!

My likeys are better than your likeys

At least we all can agree, trophy/cheevs earners are the lowest of the lowest =/ in nerd totem pole

I mean having fun earning virtual icons that give some people enjoyment... oh the trophymanity!

Also amir0x somehow going, "Believe in yourself, like I Believe in you!"

Now this is impressive.

Ami is right up there with UltraJMan.

But worse.

me and my mother have a wonderful relationship and, as anyone intimately familiar with the situation knows, the ridiculous details surrounding that event had nothing to do with physical violence from me (i did not hit my mom at all, another classic bitter GAF exaggeration, blocked her from hitting me with a purse actually), and it had to do with a xanax overdose. That was from the ladder half of my depressed and anxiety years, unsurprisingly enough! Because I WAS maladjusted socially! Because I had gone for many years trying to get out of the depression and anxiety from when my high school sweetheart killed herself. Shock shock! Maladjusted people make poor decisions. See, I own who I am and who I was.

But don't believe everything you read on GAF. You'll get crabs.

Of course. It's nothing wrong with loving My Little Pony. There's nothing wrong with going to a Brony Convention, if that makes you happy. I'm all about finding what you love and owning it. I own all my loves, even when it's extremely controversial on neoGAF such as drugs. It's not about making yourself popular with people. It's about being true to yourself.

My sister is unashamedly a nerd. And she's also socially maladjusted, at least my younger sister is. My older sister just got dragged to Comic Con by her husband, who is also a socially maladjusted nerd.

They all gleefully accept who they are. Both of them are VERY intimately familiar with their social quirks.

He should embrace it, you know? Nothing wrong with a smelly nerd with shit social skills who goes to comic con, nobody is saying it's wrong. If that's who he is, that's who he is and he shouldn't be fucked with for his poor hygiene and lack of any ability to reasonably hold a conversation with others.

Geez why can't you be more reasonable like Amir0x?

Nerd world peace.

People are judgmental about it because there are degrees of nerdiness that are perceived as weird, creepy and unproductive. These activities have the "smelly basement dweller who lives with his parents" connotations attached to them. As far as nerd credentials, I am currently watching a series of Youtube lectures by Leonard Susskind on string theory. It's weird. It's nerdy. But it's not viewed as unproductive socially awkward geekiness like being a clopper.

Amir0x I wanted to side with you ever since you talked about going to the convention with your sis and hating of other nerds. I really did.

How can I now?

But you're delusional than I am, and I used to call myself 'The king of games'.

If Amirox has watched and strongly disliked MLP, I don't see too much wrong with him not trusting the tastes of people who do enjoy it. If someone enjoys things that don't appeal to you at all, it seems only natural to look elsewhere for recommendations.

So explain to me how grown ass men love my little pony?!

It's a cute show that has lighthearted humor, something rare in comedies these days. It's not for everyone, but the creator went out of her way to make it more universal than one might expect.

Ehh, not everyone shares the same taste, most of the time you like things person a does, but hate some others he also likes at the same time, and Amirox specifically likes some things that I think is fundamentally terrible, but that doesn't mean I take his opinions or recommendations any less seriously than the rest of us!

Ok then? I'm not sure where to go from there: the truth is in the post, you either accept it or you don't. Moving on to more pressing matters...

I am a nerd Ami! I really am, I'm what they call a "Retro Gamer". I guess I'm not a very good nerd since I don't engage in fanboy wars over consoles. But I am a nerd none the less. I didn't say I hate a convention. Point to a post where I said I hate a convention. Reading comprehension is important dude.

I said I did not want to be around smelly nerds with poor hygiene. It's true. But I always said I wanted to attend conventions, I just didn't want to have to suffer that part of it. I eventually was convinced that there was enough worth it at the convention I was interested in to suffer that aspect of it.

Did that aspect go away? No. It was there exactly as I feared. Did I still enjoy myself? Sure.

I'm sure there are. But this is a forum with thousands of posters. I have to find some fairly workable way to filter out the opinions of people that I can be reasonably sure I wouldn't be able to trust based on the priorities of -my- tastes.

Filtering out certain individuals whose taste would accommodate such garbage as Animal Crossing I have found is an AMAZING way to cut through the BS regarding people with gaming tastes that are likely closer to my own. It's a good way to get to the heart of things. The same goes for animation or movies.

If Amirox has watched and strongly disliked MLP, I don't see too much wrong with him not trusting the tastes of people who do enjoy it. If someone enjoys things that don't appeal to you at all, it seems only natural to look elsewhere for recommendations.

Yup.

I'm sorry.
I got Twilight Sparkle.

I tried not to.

That personality test is rigged. *grr*
Twilight Sparkle at least gets much better in Season 2.

Come to think of it season 2 makes all the mediocre ponies decent and nerfs all the good ponies from the first season. Odd how that works out.
