The impression I get from different forums and such...it almost seems like people using 3D vs those not using it is about 50/50. That almost makes me wonder why it even exists, if it really isnt needed and not even used by millions of people? All it does is add to the cost of the handheld and make development slightly harder/longer.
If a non-3D 3DS existed for $50/$75 cheaper, would it not sell like hotcakes?
There are those of us, who fell in love with the 3D feature and use it for many of the games. I don't want it removed, and the cost of the feature is irrelevant. 3D was a huge selling point of the hardware (for me personally). Rather than considered gimmicky, I consider 3D as a inherent successor trait/unique differentiator. I don't want a DS2....it wouldn't be a 3DS without the named differentiator built into its genetic hardware.
It's a differentiator from the PSVita (which I also own). Or any other system, for that matter. How many other systems have games DESIGNED and built for 3D immersion from scratch? Games like Mario 3D Land, Kid Icarus Uprising, Mutant Mudds and Resident Evil Revelations are unique and excel because the hardware is built around the feature. Therefore many games are built around the feature.. It wasn't an afterthought, but a new vision for these new experiences, for old and new series'.
A suped up DS (plain DS2) would not appeal to me. I have a Vita for that. A suped up - eh, it just would be better textures and stuff. 3D on the 3DS constantly captivates in a way Back to the Future's 2000 appealed to me as a kid, in the eighties. It's just so forward and futuristic.
Hence my fevered frothing for the XL on Sunday.
Yellow tint is a product of the tech Nintendo chose. Same as the DSI XL. The amount of yellow tint appears to vary, with some people just getting some and others getting an ungodly yellow hue, which for me would necessitate a return.
Couldn't the yellow tint be 2 things?
1) glue (he iPad, ipodtouch and iPhone) have all suffered a yellow tint which dissipates over time. They suffere a yellower tint as the screen glue hasn't dried fully.
2) new antiglare coating
