This should help make color choices easier, snapped these off YouTube:

We managed to find an XL early in Canada. Really great feeling system more than anything. The rounder edges, better are the key, but all the buttons feel better as well. And of course the screen is really good looking. I put in nearly all the games to look at them. Only really noticed the scan lines on Kid Icarus, and I don't think they'll be a problem. This is basically the system Nintendo should have launched with.

Jeez, starting to regret blue purchase... I want red now :p

Is the blue that bad?

Does the red look better in person? It seems so bright and....red in pics. If it were almost burgundy or a deep red, I might bite on red. It just seems so loud and flat - overall, unappealing.

Can you post some random blue pics of your unit?

I've heard the blue is a silvery, nice blue ^_^

Where?? Vancouver? Toronto? Montreal?

Still want white.

red and blue are both pretty nice.

silver always looks bad on electronics to me, very 90sish back when it was a small fad and so many vcrs, tvs, etc were silver for awhile.

I can't post pics atm because of no good cam but you can find loads in this thread, check back a few pages for some good ones! (edit, this pic gives the best real life impression: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a59/Mattie0481/6534d253.jpg)

Actually, the flat almost toyish glow of the red is what's starting to appeal to me. Maybe it was the virtual boy comparison, I dunno, but the blue is indeed silvery with the finish. It can differ greatly in lighting. I think most people will find it the best color, I did as well but now I'm kinda leaning towards red (of course because I keep seeing the blue because I own it it might just be that I'm getting used to it)

Well if you are a new user, you start off with 500 ptz instatntly. Linking your twitter and facebook accounts net you another 250 each. Then for the rest basically you earn points by "grabbing decals" (finding an item in their store and press the grab it" button) for 10 ptz each and uploading your own "decals" (read: random pictures) for 15 ptz each. It's a grindfest all the way up, but I managed to stop at around 1800 to get 15% off (you can get 16% off for 2000 points but I thought I might spare myself the time for just $2).

Thanks for this info. I signed up and got 2000 points easily just uploading a ton of meme type pictures.

Here's a question:

Does the battery benefit when the 3D is turned down to say 50% or less without being completely turned off? Or is that effect only noticeable when 3D is 100% OFF?

There is no difference in battery life from 100% 3D and 50% 3D. The 3DS is still producing the same thing no matter if it's max 3D or halfway. When it's in 2D it only has to create the 1 image though (unlike the 2 required for 3D), so you see battery life boosts along with the occasional anti-aliasing or better frame rates due to less strain on the hardware.

oh ok thanks... so i guess i will play games in 3D or not depending on whether the effect can actually add something to the game/the games that were made for 3D or not

Pushmo/Pullblox on the XL is heavenly

no mate you can't join the Red team! http://wiki.teamfortress.com/w/images/thumb/7/74/RedmondMann.png/220px-RedmondMann.png[IMG]

I admit, I bought the blue because I already have a red DS Lite :p
I'll stay on blue, I'll just admire red from afar :p

Decided against buying an XL at the last minute. I'm happy enough with my normal 3DS for now. I'll try to sell off my spare 3DS and my old DSi XL anyway, and get a 3DS XL either when there's a colour I want
PURPLE
or drops in price a bit.

At this point I could probably flip a coin between red and blue and be happy either way. I think I'm leaning slightly towards blue at the moment, though. It'll likely come down to an in-store decision for me.

Quick question:

I am thinking about trading up from the normal 3DS to the 3DS XL. How would this process go at Gamestop if I wanted to transfer the content license from my old one to my new one?

I guess, what I am trying to ask is, do I just do it in the store or something? I know you need internet access to do this, so I guess I am just confused.

Could anyone help me out?

Bought a 3DS XL

Did the system transfer
It ended up asking me if I wanted to transfer the DSi games from the SD card to the system memory.
I said yes, it said the SD card wasn't accessible or some such shit.
I gave up and just said no, I only had 4 games anyway
Copy the old SD card to the new SD card in Windows
No games are showing up on the new SD card.

Why are Nintendo so awful?

e: fixed it. There's a random folder in the Nintendo3DS folder with a long string as its name. I had to change the folder with the old games to the same name as the folder the 3DS XL magically made. So stupid.

I've performed three system transfers, no issue with DSi games for me. You copy to system memory, then transfer the old SD card to the new system in the end. Easy.

Yeah, it would be easy if it worked, which it didn't.

I edited my post with the solution to the final problem. It's incredibly stupid.

Or you probably could have just copied the contents in the old folder (long string) to the newly made folder on XL. Probably a little easier than renaming the folder.

It's not stupid. It totally comprehensive. You were either a) very unlucky and got a glitch (the first I've read about here), or b) doing it wrong.

it could be a number of things, but i doubt it's a "glitch" when the only real problem was the XL not recognizing the folder that was made by his regular 3DS/SI

I'd be more prone to believe that it was different firmwares and the 3DS not realizing they should keep the name of the folder name constant

There's no user interaction for me to "do wrong". You click through a few confirmation prompts, wait 30 minutes and it's done.

Now I've got it set up, the console is pretty nice. Star Fox looks much better.

Have to say, the system transfer was completely painless for me. All my DSi Ware copied straight onto my SD card, which I put into my XL and moved to the system memory with no fuss at all. Swapped my 4GB XL SD card back in, and I was good to go.

If anything, I'm impressed with just how good the transfer is. I wasn't expecting it to be so comprehensive, it even copied all my options and folders.

So close to pulling the trigger on the Blue XL. The thought if having the ability to switch the plates from blue to white is tempting, but a part of me still wants to hold out for another color (maybe white) this holiday or at a later date.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I still wish we were getting white so I could apply the orangish-red Dreamcast swirl on top of it. (Like every other white electronic I own)

Blue it is until we get white. My GBA SP was colbalt.

Did they confirm interchangeable plates?

Did they confirm interchangeable plates?
Nintendo never confirmed it, but the plates are apparently really easy to clip off, but the bottom one does have screws holding it in. Top one is a bit tighter than the bottom.

I plan on changing to silver once the plates start showing up online
