Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

2am and 4am are far too late. Can I just join the Mumble server outside of these times and say hello or will things be too quiet?

Absolutely, Mumble is going to be getting busier as we get close to launch. There's 7 of us on there now, for example.

I'm happy to announce two upcoming...
GAFGuild Mumble Meet & Greet Events!

Here's another opportunity for everyone to hop on Mumble and get to know their future guildmates before launch. Even if you don't have a microphone, you can still participate since Mumble has a chat window. If you don't want to speak up, that's fine too; talking is not mandatory and you're welcome to just log in and listen (keep the creepy stalker breathing to a minimum though).

The first event will be held this Friday at 10PM Eastern (7PM Pacific, 2am GMT) and run until people leave. This is an hour later than the previous event since a few people on the West Coast were getting home from work and not having time to have dinner or relax.

The second event will be our Mega-Awesome Pre-Launch Super-Countdown Festival of Hype, and will begin on Friday, August 25th at Midnight (9PM on the 24th Pacific, 4am GMT) and run for 3 hours. At this point, the game launches and everyone officially has license to freak out. This event is strictly B.Y.O.K (Bring Your Own Kool-Aid).

Mumble Info:
(Quote post for info)

Cool. Quoting for the new page, and I'll try to be there this time.

Thanks for all the information guys. Less than two weeks to go and we'll all be OC'ing on snacks and energy drinks LOL :-D

Will the OP have all the necessarily guild info like server etc.?

Call me nuts but, I just booked vacation time from work from the 27th to 31st... Sorely needed a vacation, seemed like great timing to me. Haha.

Apparently you just have to keep on trying or try it on a different computer. Other people have had your same problem, but they were eventually able to register by simply trying a bunch of times and one finally working
Thanks, my registration finally went through! Now I'm downloading the game files, which should take... crap. Maybe I should've waited for my copy to arrive in the mail.

There is still a massive patches and you going to miss the 3 day early window if you choose to wait for the retail disc to be mailed to you.

You are not nuts, if I had more time to take I would have got the whole week also. I wanted to save some though, only took off 2 days.

I might be at the meet and greet on friday, but friday is game night with the guys, so I might not be able to make it.

=(

I want a new computer.

What are your specs?
AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core 2.2 GHZ
Radeon HD 4850 512 MB
2 Gigs of Ram (probably what's giving me the error?)

The error is new btw, I didn't actually get it during the beta weekend events and stress tests. It just does it whenever I boot up the patcher now.

2 gigs is the minimum, so its not that.

I dont really know how stuff matches up against one another, so I usually just go to Can you run it? and let that site tell me if i can play the game or not

If I had to guess it's the memory if it's anything, but if it's not a bug you can simply put -useoldlauncher in the target field of your shortcut and login through there.

If you happen to have switchable graphics, that also might be the problem

My integrated card doesnt meet the requirements, but my good one does

Guys let me get this right. I've been lost for quite a long time now. Sorry for all the questions. x___x

I only played the first Beta Weekend, so what do I have to do now? Can I pre download/update the game via client? Actually I know I have to download something because I tried already, but is that all? Can i secure a character's name? How? What exactly means I am on the GAF guild. I already asked to be included on the guild thread. But what about when the game launches? Do I need to do something in game to join it? I know I have to be on the same server, right? Which one is it? Does the class/race matter when joining the guild?

lol :S

The Beta Client is the same as the launch game client. It just needs to download the updates.

At launch, you'll have to contact a Guild officer for an invite. Probably just say who you are. I think the only issue will be how quickly the guild can afford to expand the guild size limit.

You can no longer reserve a character name. The only way to do it is to have a copy of the original Guild Wars and log in with a character name by July 31st.

Just download the client and keep it updated. Youll be using that for the real game. That is all

You could secure a GW1 name for GW2, but that has long since passed

You are apart of the gaf guild. You dont have to do anything. All you have to do is accept. If you havent gotten an invite in a day or two, ask again.

The server is Stormbluff isle. And no you dont have to be on the same server to join the gaf guild. Plently of europeans will be in the gaf guild but will be playing on an EU server

Class/race does not matter at all. Pick whatever you like best

1. Just start/run the client back up again and it will download the latest version.

2. No way to reserve your name any more through character creation in GW1. The last date for this was July 31st.

3. GAF Guild Website This should have a bunch of information for you. But the operative server for the GAF Guild is Stormbluff Isle.

4. You don't ACTUALLY have to be on the same server for any purpose other then WvW.

5. No, race class does not matter. This isn't WoW with factions, everyone on the same server is on the same side. :)

Thanks so much for the answers guys. Helped a lot. :)

Odd, after downloading the new files I got an "error encountered" message, saying my graphics card/driver was known to cause errors and might be bad for performance... I use a GTX 560M... so way over requirements. odd. I hope that gets sorted out.

It can be fixed by updating the drivers to the 304 betas. It's likely popping up because on the 15th Nvidia is releasing drivers specifically for GW2 so that error may be popping up because it's taking into account that in a few days your drivers will be old.

Uh. One last question. I can't remember how to contact someone ingame. Thats how much I've played it. x_x

Is it \playername ? :X

aaaah kk, I'll update my drivers before release anyway, but good to know, thanks.

My wife's due date is... the 25th.

Its our first child and I'm excited to have a son. But it I won't be able to play first weekend.

Hopefully he comes early :)

The inability to embed videos is going to make me dislike the OT, I'm not happy that I have to turn images into links that point to youtube. I hope that people will be observant enough to realize that each profession and race image is a link to a video.

Do a YouTube capture picture, make it look like something that can be played, then people go "Uhhh" click it and gets taken to YT. Slap the watermark "Play" button on top of them as well.

The best part about being an Engineer is that you have a ton of awesome, unique toolkits you can bust out. For example, my Charr Engineer looks like a total badass with a flamethrower strapped to his back;

If they do another stress test I'll defo be going an engineer.

Just be careful, every class in GW2 seems to be infused with some sort of digital Heroin. You figure, "Oh, I'll just try it a little" and the next thing you know that's your new main. If you suffered from Alt-itis in other MMOs, you should probably just plan on buying 3 more character slots right at the start.

I've had (literally) years to consider what professions I want to play, and I still haven't picked one. Hell, I don't even have my race/class combos sorted out yet.

Great idea.:)

Has people decided title for OT? My tries;

Guild Wars 2 |OT| I swung a sword, I swung it again, hey I swung it again!

Guild Wars 2 |OT| the big bang of online gaming

Guild Wars 2 |OT| You can even dye your underpants

Guild Wars 2 |OT| The Mad King will return

Guild Wars 2 |OT| Guild Guild Guild Guild Guild and another Guild Guild Guild

Guild Wars 2 |OT| Now with monthly fees! (kidding!)

Guild Wars 2 |OT| ArenaNet does what Blizzardn't ;)

Guild Wars 2 |OT| of groupies not needing to group no more

Guild Wars 2 |OT| and yes there are dragons!

Yup.

I'm playing co-op with someone though who's 100% an elementalist, so I really do need to choose and settle from the get go.

PR speak or not, I still stand by "Guild Wars 2 | OT | The MMO (R)evolution Begins".

I don't think I'll know what I'm playing 100% until I know what names I have locked in and start making characters.

Yeah I was quite sad names were universal and not server based, but it's what needs to be for all the cross server play which is far more important than a name.

I actually prefer them being Universal. Yes, there's a rush for popular names (not that many of mine are ultra-popular), but once you lock up that name there's no chance of anyone else using it. You'll never have to worry that someone else in the game is using your names. For somebody like me (who puts a lot of effort into getting names just right) it makes a difference knowing nobody else is out there with the same name. Maybe that's just me.
