Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

I've been on GAF for a while and honestly when I see OTs that have taglines that are some huge inside joke, I find them very stupid because outside of a small handful of people, no one has a fucking clue what it means. This thread is not for us, we have already bought the game and will be playing. This is for those people who are either on the fence, this is for people who may know of the game but have no idea what it is, and for the people who have no clue what it is at all.

And don't take this as I'm just outright ignoring what you guys think, because I'm not. But do take into account where I'm going with this and not where we as the community already are.

Guild Wars 2 |OT| Let's pick a title that isn't sucking ANet's dick

Haha yes!

Dammit people.

For about a year now I was pretty set on "What's your story", but the whole OT is being made to attract new people who have no idea what the game is. With that in mind, I've been playing this genre for a decade now and you wouldn't believe how many people don't even look at MMOs or threads for them because the good ones all have fees. So that's why I'm going with Guild Wars 2 |OT| Buy the box, play forever

Awwwww okay. I still say Sethos' title is the best one.

Guild Wars 2 |OT| This is not an inside joke I promise

Every time kool-aid is mentioned I think of Friday, "Man, you know I want some kool-aid."

Guild Wars 2 |OT| free free free it's free never pay free forever

Given the fact that Jira's actually putting work into the OT, I'd say it's reasonable for him to call it whatever the hell he wants. And his philosophy on naming it makes a lot of sense, as it's useful to people and not about users feeling so keenly awesome that they get the joke.

Because I don't pay attention: my kids and I want to pick the same 'world' in order to play together, but the actual server doesn't factor into it at a all, right?

Yes and no. The only part that matters if for WvW, if you don't care to play it then pick what you want and you can still play everything else with us via guesting for free. If you do care about WvW and want to play with us then you have to pick the same server.

Because you're all bored, here's an OT teaser:

Is all the text on the images proper? because that would suck for readability.

Headers as images is fine, actual text content as images, not so good in my opinion.

I hate moving slowly.

I don't believe they should be given out like candy like they are nowadays, but they should be in game for something to work toward.

There are a pretty good number of ways to not move slowly in this game. From waypoints to Swiftness powers that either you possess or your allies do, you tend to get around pretty well so long as you're not alone all the time or running a non-Swiftness build.

And if you're really concerned about it, play an Elementalist. They get around faster than anyone.

Click on waypoint, automatic travel. Why even have mounts?

Other than it would make the massive WvW maps more enjoyable.

Teleporting everywhere is boring though. Sometimes I just like to explore the world and mounts are a great way of doing that and not be so slow about it.

Danke. Can't wait.

The only parts that have text like that on an image are races and professions, everything else will be typed or video. I wasn't going to have a nice looking image for every race or profession then this assy font from the forum.

If you are running around in WvW, or the world in general exploring, and don't have access to Swiftness (or at least a weapon that grants it in your inventory) or an ally with you who can grant you it, you are insane. It makes getting around so much easier.

I agree... and the more videos the merrier, i find that most of the time i prefer to digest my information through listening or watching online than reading (i do enough of that at work) :)

Mounts are a great way to miss interaction with NPCs - closing the world off even more. There's more to exploring than looking at pretty landscapes. I recall a youtube video that followed a random NPC after helping him gather wood, spawned a whole new set of DEs - right when you thought the DE you just helped him with and he would despawn - he made use of that wood - chaining new events and a mini-boss.

Mounts are the perfect way to avoid exploration, IMO.
