9to5Mac who has been dead on as of late say their sources say it will have a smaller bezel so despite having a larger screen it will be about the same size as the 7 inch tablets on the market.

That's pretty cool

I kind of doubt an ipad mini shows up, as much as I want them do debut it next month. All these parts are leaking for the iphone but absolutely nothing on the ipad mini?

WSJ/NYT duo says its happening this fall. WSJ is known to get their leaks direct from Apple. It is usually seen as gospel when WSJ reports it. And now 9to5Mac is getting detailed leaks, they got every detail of the June conference right.

Either it's the fact that it's being made in Brazil or it hasn't hit mass production just yet. I'd imagine we'll see some parts next month.

I don't get the point of the fatness....

the nexus 7 is built for a road warrior. It fits comfortably into jacket pockets.

the ipad mini width seems to indicate that you have to carry it.... which means you might as well get a full size Ipad.

with the thin bezels though, it's only like 10% fatter

The bezel is probably throwing you off. With this bezel it will be nearly identical in width to the Nexus 7. The Nexus 7 has large bezels.

While I hate 16:9 in general, when you put them side by side like that I actually prefer the nexus 7 form factor. I guess that width is inevitable with the aspect ratio of the screen, but we'll see how it feels in hand.

iMore is also saying the 200 price point. Huh.

I still don't think Apple needs to hit $199. I don't know. I think it's more of a safe assumption to go with a 16GB $299 price point since that will build in some "premium-ness" over the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire products with the added cameras, bigger screen and more storage. Apple will sell every single one at $299 anyways. Who knows though...a 8GB at $199 is fine for some people I guess but I would think Apple would want more app/music/video purchases and 8GB just doesn't cut it. I want a 32GB or 64GB version (much prefer a 64GB actually even at $499)

There's literally no reason for them to hit $200 this year. At all.

But there is a reason.. two actually: The Kindle Fire and Nexus 7. I can see $200 for sure with 8 GB and a larger memory option at $250 or $300.

Also, I'm not buying one if it is more than $250 so there is a third reason! ;)

I feel like chasing android isn't the right business move to make, but I'm not the one paid to make these decisions.

When are amazon's new tablets getting revealed anyway?

But they said they don't want to leave a segment of the market for a competitor to come in and take.

Google w/Nexus 7, Amazon with Kindle (esp. if a new version is introduced), both companies w/storefronts offering movies/music/apps/books. That is the reason Apple needs to release this and hit $200 if what Cook said in their financial results call back in July is true.

A mini at 199 price range would make the world go nuts this Christmas.

Like every single family will end buying one or two.

But 249 wouldn't change things, I guess.

Either way, I'll end up buying one or two for me and gifting it to nearly anyone come this Christmas.

It's more portable. And I personally felt the iPad 3 was too heavy (one of the reasons I sold it).

I really was hoping it would be 16:9 like the new iPhone. Ah well. At least the bezel was reduced.

Yes, jokes aside portability is a great plus. I own an iPad 3 and while I really like it, it's a bit difficult carrying it everywhere (even though I always have it with me in my bag, at least when I'm at work).

With the mini I can see myself leaving the "normal" iPad at home and using the smaller one everywhere.

And I don't know how I feel about 16:9 tablet; the Transformer I have feels weird when viewed in portrait mode.

It's palmable so there is no need for a large bezel. Same reason iPhone doesn't have one.

Lol, no it's not. Whatever. I can pull up posts from every Machead here explaining why the iPad needs big bezels but once Apple makes a 180 it looks cool. *smh*

Uh the iPad does need bezels. The current ipad would be hard to use without them. Because it is too big to hold in one hand. So you need grips. But that has nothing to do with iPad mini.. The mini iPad with very slim bezels is virtually the same size as the nexus 7 which is palmable. So the need is not there for big bezels. It's why iPhones don't have them. You aren't making any sense.

Are you blind? The iPhone is not a tablet. It's 3.5". The iPad is 7.85".

You do realize what happens when you get rid of the bezels right? Its width shrinks rather dramatically. And the nexus 7 has big bezels. What the hell are you trying to say?

A 7.85 inch tablet with almost no bezels on the side compared to a 7 inch tablet with large bezels will be virtually the exact same width in form factor.

He's saying it's not 'palmable' which is correct.

How isn't it? The nexus 7 is. And a mini iPad with greatly reduced bezels will be nearly identical in width to the nexus 7 which has large bezels.
Not to mention 9to5mac is saying their source is calling it palmable and will likely be a major selling point apple pushes.

I like the iPad Mini for road warrior purposes. I have iPad 2 now and consider buying a kindle for mobility purposes. If an iPad Mini came out that I can slap a nice thick case on and screen protector I can just throw it in my backpack and be on my way. I like.

iPad is so heavy and awkward to hold sometimes.

The nexus 7 has large bezels because it's a tablet. Matias was actually focused on slimming it down but that was the thinnest he would go. I can only imagine that an iPad mini would have even slimmer bezels because Ive has gone crazy and nobody at Apple gives a shit about this tablet.

The nexus 7 needs bezels though..

I guess I'll have to hold it myself to believe it. Just brought out a ruler. It doesn't reasonable for to me hold this with one hand without clasping to the front to some extent.

Other than the fact it will easily vastly outsell the larger iPad due to it's price and be one of the biggest launches in Apple history (a iPad for between 200-300 during the holidays?).

Agreed, it's clearly a moneygrab. toss whatever spare parts they can find and and sell it for marketshare

Lol Apple just fucked up the usability of their tablet. the iPad mini is truly the shit version. I wouldn't get one even if I was paid to.

Maybe wait for the tablet to be unveiled and previewed before turning your crazy dial up to 11?

It's probably going to be incredibly thin. Maybe thinner than iPad 2. This release will be insane.

Maybe the iPod is phased out and we get a 199 mini. Game over.
