It doesn't get the praise it deserves. I can understand how some people might not like it, as you said it's not exactly a page turner, but everyone should try to read it. Ishiguro's writing is just beautiful. I'm in the middle of "The Remains of the Day", and while it's really good, it didn't make me react as strongly as I did with Never let me go. I wish I could find more books like these.
James Baldwin's Giovanni's Room and Peter Cameron's The City of Your Final Destination are both books that I loved that are comparable to Never Let Me Go. Giovanni's Room captures the same observations about people and their emotions that Never Let Me Go does, and The City of Your Final Destination (and all of Cameron's books really) is written in the same hushed style that Ishiguro uses, and is also rich with atmosphere and features really well-executed, deep characters. Both have gay characters too, so they're relevant!

It's been kinda a boring week. I'm on my off week for chemo and I finally feel like eating again, so that's been good. I'm just in training this week for work and then I have Friday off. Sunday will be fun though, will pick up an 3DS XL and NSMB2.

Glad you're doing better, Alex. Wow.. I thought the XL came out next month for some reason and of course I've been looking forward to NSMB2. I'll pick them up too.

'Gaydar'. It is just kind of curiosity about how propositioning someone works and stuff around that.

I was propositioned at work yesterday.. Its just something that a lot of us have. I can almost always tell if a guy is gay after interacting with them for a minute. Its kind of hard to explain but its something a lot of us do. Why do you ask?

We should organize a Gay-GAF party for the TF2 co-op expansion. It has the potential to be fun.

Yes, this would be amazing. I watched my roommate try the mode on solo last night and it looks really interesting. Granted, I've never played Killing Floor.

Also - what happened to your avatar?

'Gaydar'. It is just kind of curiosity about how propositioning someone works and stuff around that.

I don't believe it exists but other people swear by it. Personally, I wouldn't proposition someone unless I 100% knew either through someone telling me or them telling me.

i lost my ID and now i have to wait like one-two weeks to get ID again and there's this rly cute guy I've been talking to and went to cinemas a couple of days ago #lifeends

This thread tends to go a lot of places anyway, lol.

I'm actually trying to get into reading books too as I've only ever read the Harry Potter series, textbooks, and assigned reading. I want to be more "cultured", if that makes sense at all.

I certianly stick with a limited subset of types of books, but here are some I love that I would recommend:

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King - absolutely phenomenal. If you enjoy it, there's the Marvel comics prequels that are also great.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy - Dirty, dark, and a bit depressing. Fun, though ;)

Watership Down by Richard Adams - my favorite childhood book. The movie is also equally traumatizing!

Badass by Ben Thompson - fun, humorous referencebook of kick ass historical figures.

I have plenty of others if you need more or aren't interested in those.

Today, Wednesday, was supposed to be a relaxing day, but my pops ended up coming over for lunch and hanging out for awhile, and then a friend of mine offered me a ticket to go see System of a Down, which is one band I honestly thought I'd never get to see. So...I just got home from that, and I got sushi on my way back! :D And now I'm posting this post.

How was the System of a Down show? Did you get to see the Deftones, too? I was really considering going to it when it was near me in Mass last week, but it was too last minute when I found out about them.

I get asked out at my work quite a lot (I work on Oxford Street in Sydney) and I can just imagine that doing so would be doubly terrifying. It is bad enough that approaching a stranger for their number is hard, but I can imagine that rejection has double levels of danger considering the social stigma that surrounds it.

I wondered if gaydar is actually a thing, in that people really develop a sense, or people give off certain vibes, in order to avoid such problems?

This isn't really about me, I'm not offended by it and I am polite about it, but rather it just got me curious.

I don't think there's such thing. It's pretty much reading a guy's behavior and making an educated guess. I personally suck at it. Except in Facebook, where all you have to do is check their "likes" (it most likely includes female pop singers or stuff like Glee), and they have tons of friends with shirtless profile pics. Alternatively, you can see their "interested in" status, lol.

I definitely believe in gaydar. Sometimes you just 'know' and can't really describe why. I guess what it comes down to is that I think there must be subtle things about how a gay or bisexual guy will look at you or carry themselves, in a way that a straight guy would never do, and you pick up on this.

Hon, you're gonna need to elaborate.
Well my Dad told me about some of the crazy exercises he went on whilst in the parachute regiment (British Army). One of them was when they were in Norway for training in extreme cold, and to keep warm they warmed their feet in each other’s armpits and generally just cuddled up.

Sort of like big burly penguins.

Another one he told me about is something that he described as an exercise but it sounds like a prank. Basically, they were dropped off naked on the opposite side of the town near their barracks and need to get back to the barracks together. He told me that him and his mates cheated and just got a taxi together. I bet you would of let them ride for free .:P

YES! I actually am a bit of a fraud in agreeing with you because I haven’t even finished ‘Wizard and Glass’, but I plan on reading more once I finish my thesis. ‘The Drawing of the Three’ is probably my favourite book ever. The first gift I ever bought my boyfriend was a copy of ‘The Gunslinger’. :3

I’m so jealous! I saw them once, at Ozzfest all the way back in 2002, haha. I’d love to see them again but I doubt they’ll ever return here. How was the gig?

Yes we should. We were actually talking about this in the GayGAF Skype chat. I'm still stuck using my laptop for my PC gaming needs but once I start earning the big bucks a nice new gaming rig shall be mine!

My dad bought me The Gunslinger and The Drawing of the Three in 7th grade, and I finally read the rest of the series a few years ago. You've got some awesome stuff still coming if you're only on 4! And now there's The Wind Through the Keyhole! So you get even more Dark Tower goodness! My dad did a lot of cool stuff for me growing up - he got me into Stephen King and Michael Crichton in elementary school and let me watch all kinds of horror movies from age 5 on, haha.

I didn't know you could play through it alone (with bots I assume?), but I might try that in the meantime just so I can practice.

Also, I thought my Kalas avatar was making me look whiny, so I'm going back to something Yakuza related.

I'm the same way, and I've always assumed that people with "gaydars" are remarkably observant. Of course, I consider myself fairly observant as well, so I guess I'm just not observing the right things.

Deftones were alright, I guess. I'm not super familiar with their stuff, and I hadn't seen them since '03, so I can't say I was too invested in their performance.

SOAD were funny. They were really good as far as the music goes, but they were so casual about everything. Serj was dressed in a nice t-shirt and jeans, haha. It was kinda weird, but they were fantastic. Took a bunch of pics and video and stuff.

They didn't even introduce themselves or anything. They just launched into their set, and just played for an hour and a half straight through! It was rad.

edit: god dammit so many concerts are happening. i love it. Justice is coming back to Chicago in October. Welp. Gotta get a ticket.

This and that. I did make a point of watching Total Recall after seeing the horrible remake.

Total Recall? Oh. I thought you were talking about old movies.

:O Big burly penguins? I like the sound of that...

Can Americans join the British Army?

(One of) The worst thing (s) about living in a small town in the middle of nowhere is that you can't go to concerts without making a super long trek. ;_;

I don't live in a small town, but there still aren't any concerts around (or rather, there isn't anybody playing here who's of interest to me). Naturally, Animal Collective is coming in September, but I'll be gone by then. Great timing guys.

I would be so upset if I missed an Animal Collective concert.

Nope, it was alone-alone. He just created a private server to try it out. Needless to say, he didn't survive a single wave. But it gave a good idea of what the gameplay is like. We got a few ideas of some decent team compositions that would be effective at least in the first part. It does seem that every class will be useful (barring Sniper of course) though this mode will definitely hinge on engineers.

That all went over my head, so I think I might need to brush up on (or acquire) my TF2 skills before anything gets going.

Thanks, I'll read them when I finish The remains of the day.

Yeah, solo is a no-go for MvM (unless you play as an engy, I suppose). You die too fast and the robots get to the spawn too fast (at least on the map I tried). My Demo stood no chance.

There's many gaygaffers who dont post in this thread I've come to notice.
Yeah. If you look at the number of posters who contributed in the original gay thread and compare that to the number of posters now, there's a huge drop-off. Granted, a few of them were banned, but still.

Oh god. I see that everywhere.
I've never seen that. I think that might be subliminal messaging.

I feel like I'm the only one who does not find six packs attractive, while I don't complain if someone has a six pack, it certainly not needed for a guy to be hot in my eyes, its all in the chest/arms/leg combo for me.

Youre not the only one. Im an arm and shoulders guy myself. And not a muscular arms/shoulders, more beefy. I love a guy with a bit of a belly.

I don't have a six-pack prerequisite, and going off other posts here when this discussion has rolled around in the past, neither do a large number of people.

It's not a requirement, but it always helps. lol, I've never seen one in person so there's something oddly exotic about it to me.

Muscles can be super intimidating. I wouldnt wanna be captain flapjack pulling off my shirt after Captain America pulls off his, upstaging me... :(
See, I'm very childish with it. Its not attraction, but rather amazement for overly built guys.

Like when I see a guy with very big arms. You'd expect a compliment, but I seem to be more memorized with the actual size of the arms. Like, "He has very big arms". Nothing to do with how good he looks in general... just noticing the obvious. Heh.

The hour I spent figuring out what an engineer in TF2 did was wildly illuminating, and the little I played of Mannworks was amusing. Coal Town and Decoy don't work for me though, unless the ability to traverse invisible walkways and go through stairs was one of the Sleeping Dogs preorder bonuses.
