Fighting Games Weekly | August 13-19

Tournament standard time is basically whatever time it was meant to be + 2-5 hours.

So for example if you made plans to have lunch with someone at noon, don't expect them to show up until 2-5 PM.

well i dont think they make much if any money from the stream. only guys you are hurting are the hazmat guys. i heard they are going to be doing more events? looks like they are trying to get their own thing going. they deserve support.

It depends. I've only been to Final Round and CEO, but they both had casual stations on Friday and although most setups were reserved for pools on Saturday, there were still casual setups because people were allowed to bring their own setups.
 
Killer Kai kind of implying Combo is frustrated with Marvel right now after saying he has a love/hate relationship with Marvel. Says Combo's favourite game right now is KoF.

Yeah, there's definitely casuals going on if people brought their own setups but I don't see TO's allowing casuals on their own setups if pools are still going.

I think that's it, but even still, his She-Hulk team got him to top 4 in Marvel, even when his Nova team would have been more optimal much of the time when he decided not to switch and IMO is still the better team.
 
Yeah, Zangief v. Rufus has been terrible for Rufus ever since the best Zangief in the USA wasn't Ultradavid. Snake Eyez was probably fortunate to get some Adon practice against LPN before playing against Justin.

I think he should keep the She-Hulk team going. It's a good team. More anchoring She-Hulk, though. He should train with Abegen.

He's actually been doing better with She-Hulk than he did with his Nova team. The problem with the perception about Marvel, like always, is that players put forth hypocritical standards on it. For some reason people think that their Marvel team should be able to compete with any other possible team combination. When that doesn't happen, they blame the game. Match-ups exist in all fighting games. If team 1 fails to team x, then stop being stubborn and create/use team 2. In all other games that is understood, but for Marvel it's magically a problem.

Yeah, while Zangief beats Rufus at the top level of play, the Zangief player has to be really good and patient to carry out the gameplan or else they get outpoked by Rufus c. hp. Earlier in the tournament Justin made Flashmetroid's Zangief look free.

But yeah, in vanilla sf4 Sagat and Zangief were Rufus's worst matchups but there were basically no top Sagat players in the US that played aggressive to exploit the matchup and Vangief didn't really rise up until after the first evo.

I bet Justin had flashbacks of of losing to Vance (at EVO) vs Snake Eyez, and Ricky had flash backs of losing to Snake Eyez (at EVO) vs Vance.

If Vance, Snake Eyez, and Aqua would ever enter a team tournament team EG is fucked.

It's harder in Marvel because choosing another team is more difficult than picking up a new character.

1) New teams generally involve 2 or 3 new characters; other games make you choose 1.
2) Your main team already involves learning 3 characters; others involve 1.
3) A new team has levels of synergy between pairs and the full team; other games do not.

It's just a lot more work to pick up a new team in Marvel than it is to pick a new character in any other game. Plus, in most fighting games you accept that characters have pros and cons. Part of the Marvel dream is trying to make a team that can handle everything, because you have options. It's a beautiful thing.

You really think She-Hulk is a better anchor than Task or Spencer? I think his team order is great as is, She-Hulk is a good meat shield and considerably better with assists, and needs them more than Spencer and Taskmaster (which are better all-around characters IMO).

No one is scared of anchor Task. As for Spencer it's solid, but Spencer combos are just so nasty when you have added assist. That damage is ridiculous.

I would like to see Combofiend try something like Spencer, Doom, She Hulk. As for She Hulk anchor I only have Abegen to go off and that shit looks nasty. A lot scarier than Spencer.

This is my scrub opinion but the problem is Combos teams arent really Spencer teams. Unless he runs She Hulk on anchor with her otg he doesnt have assists to do multiple Up Graples in either of his two teams. If you look at other spencer users (Yipes, Infrit, Knives, Justin) they have assists to help Spencer do more damage. Combo doesnt. So yea I agree with Karsticles in that Combo should run Spencer/Task/SheHulk instead of Shehulk/Task/Spencer but only for the OTG assist.
 
Combo with that Dash up Demon FADC into Top 8. Marvel coming up on the Hazmat stream.

Even less people are scared of anchor She-Hulk, Task has so many more options to stay away, get in close, challenge you at mid-range with shield skills. You cant press buttons against Task. I suppose She-Hulk gets a bit more off of throws, that's all she's really got. People give Abegen too much respect and get blown up.

Perhaps the metagame is moving towards this for Spencer players, but I still don't like front-loaded teams. I don't think that's what Combo likes either. He wants a good, balanced team. Maybe that's where his frustration comes from, not wanting to bet it all on Spencer, as much as he likes the character.

How really bad is the Rufus/Sagat match-up? Like what was Sanford Kelly's problem against Justin's Rufus?
 
Only Knives "bets it al on spencer" the other teams have good shells in Vergil/Assist and Nova/Drones so if Spencer is gone you still have a good shell. The SheHulk/Task is a decent but not great shell

I watch a fair amount of Abegen footage while he was at FGTV.

First 6 hours or so he was doing pretty good with Tron/Thor since no one knew how to defend that shit. Going into day 2 his Tron/Thor was damn near useless versus Yipe's Dante or Shady's, Champ's Magneto.

The only thing that was getting him random wins here and there was that anchor she hulk. At least she has gimmicks in X-factor level 3. What the fuck does Task have?

Extremely solid footsies and keepaway and tod combos? Task is good on anchor slot his biggest issue is mixups on incoming characters.

And when that dream team obviously can't handle everything then what are the options? Try to force it through or make a new one.

I'm well aware that it's more work in Marvel to pick a new team. My error to not create one would be on me, though, and not the game itself. That's all I'm saying. There is no one perfect team that can handle every situation. That's actually a plus in my eyes, yet the game gets continually bashed because of it.

A person can not feel it's worthwhile to counter pick. Which is fine. They may just be maybe they're too stubborn/lazy, which is also fine. But again, that's on the person. The whole "Marvel 3 is a random mess unlike the pristine completely balanced, fundamental, footsie focused bastion of games that is Marvel 2" gets tiresome. It's plea copping at the highest. A FG player will hit a wall as long as they refuse to see the faults of their own play. It's frustrating to see people hit that wall, stare at it, and blame the wall for being in their way. Learn to drive.

You run into someone like Justin Wong and his Storm going to be floating at the top of the god damn screen timing out your x-factor. And everyone has TOD combos in x-factor level 3.

The best x-factor level 3 characters are the ones with the best mix ups. She Hulk also has that dive thing and it's pretty scary when she all speed up on that crack, and I think it can close the distance pretty well if you're getting zoned out.
