Because people will inevitably talk about Eliot stealing Gretchen away and whatnot, here's the relevant bit from Jessica Hecht's interview a few years ago:

Q: What's it like have Bryan Cranston curse at you?

A: Oh man, he's a good actor. But it was easy because Vince Gilligan told us exactly what went down between the characters off screen: We were very much in love and we were to get married. And he came home and met my family, and I come from this really successful, wealthy family, and that knocks him on his side. He couldn't deal with this inferiority he felt -- this lack of connection to privilege. It made him terrified, and he literally just left me, and I was devastated. Walt is fighting his way out of going back to that emotional place, so he says, "F--- you."

Though none of this was actually put into the show, so it could change if they ever decide to revisit Gretchen.

So Walt directly or indirectly kills Mike causing a rift between him and Jesse, DEA investigation leads to Walt going into hiding in New Hampshire, Walt hears Jesse is in trouble and comes back to help with a big gun. Oh aaaand something something Skyler and Todd.

Totally fits with Walt's character that we're seeing right now. He can't handle feeling inferior. He needs to be the alpha dog.

Man, and just to think that the opening from this season and how the hell he gets there is still completely looming over our heads.

My mind is racing but I have no idea how we're gonna get there.

I'm assuming that the last episode of this half is going to end with some cliffhanger, and then the first episode of the next half will be the opening after a huge flashforward.

Maybe. I dunno. Otherwise, we have to cover a year within the next 9 episodes.

I love Mike. I wish I could think of a way he could survive the next 2 episodes. But I just don't see it :(
Todd killing the kid I can deal with, but Walt killing Mike will drive me insane.

Yeah. I can't see these 8 episodes being a self-contained season. There's gotta be something leading to next season.

I mean, for all we know that snippet we saw could be from the last episode of next season's 8. I too though, am hoping for a flash-forward to that. Walt doesn't have anything left, and I don't think everyone will be staying around anymore.

so is grey matter being worth so much the reason why walts so determined? or did he just use that as an example of what could happen if you pass up an opportunity?

That's just an example, the real reason is that satisfaction he gets from his meth business is all he has left.

feels grey matter stole his fame and fortune, plus the implosion of his family/social life/work/health. meth's all he's got now, and he's not settling for less than gus/grey matter.

Whoa. I could definitely see that happening. It has been prominently featured a number of times now for seemingly no real reason...

Yup, agree. Even during the "Handcuffed to the radiator" scene, I feel like they made sure to let us know he was still wearing it.

That might be reading too much into it, but hey, why not?

Im starting to wonder if the guys they met with are possibly undercover agents..or atleast one of them are.

I really hope one of Mike's final actions isn't making a huge mistake like that...

Come on mang, Walt's been keeping track of Grey Matter stock for decades, constantly dwelling on his biggest failure. It's even clearer why he wouldn't except Gretchen and Elliot's charity. He couldn't

he easily could have, if he weren't a greedy egomaniac. the grey matter stuff, the fact that he's checked their valuation every week, proves this isn't a new thing. When he was a teacher, when he was building Grey Matter, he was an overly proud man with a sensitive ego. the show has gone out and vocalized Walt's fatal flaw, the one it's been pointing out for 4+ seasons, and it's done it by having Walt say it himself. It is why he is a broken person. This isn't something that requires defending or rebuttal, it is factually something wrong with him in every way.

Damn great episode. Dinner scene was excellent, as was what led up to it. Before this the show has "just" extensively shown that Walt has become a villain with such an indestructible and fatalistic sense of pride that he's willing to sacrifice everything and everyone else around him to build a name for himself. Now it's been said. By Walt. So there's that.

Also loved Walt whistling in the lab. Chilling.

Oh, and everyone: thanks for not just spoiling that line from the preview but already repeating it ad nauseam to the point of already removing all impact! Usually we have to wait, say, 10 minutes after an episode has aired for that to happen, but you all did it a full week before the ep aired! Congrats, and F▒▒k You!

It was a line from last week's preview? What line was it?

will skylar tell him who's it is? duhn duhn da

Hank knows who's it is, he commented on it when Walt came to cry crocodile tears at him.

Did someone say that there was some point in this episode where Walt seemed disturbed by what happened to the kid? Because I musta missed that.

The dinner scene was so great. First time Jesse's been funny in a long time. Also really great to see Jesse's conscience figure strongly into things in a way that isn't a total breakdown. He knows what he's in on is wrong.

Let's see....

I hope the "empire business" line is coming up...that shit was so funny in the promo

Robbing trains. Killing kids. Dat Empire Business. Can't wait for next week.

"I am the empire buisness."

Of what harming kids? Well business is booming after you poisoned Brock and got Lil' Johnny shot(I am calling the kid Lil' Johnny).

Oh man, "I'm in the empire business."

Oh god, this show keeps ramping it up every week.

Jesse must be going nuts inside with the child killed. Fuck, what a last 20 minutes to this episode...

oh shit SkySky going to tell marie

also "EMPIRE BUSINESS" full on hisenberg

"I'm in the empire business."

Oh Walt.

DAT EMPIRE BUSINESS.

I'M IN THE EMPIRE BUSINESSS WHAAAT

Oh shit. The Empire business bitches.

THAT EMPIRE

IM IN THE EMPIRE BUSINESS
Once again, please spoiler tag any preview and promo discussion. Thank you.

It was a line from last week's preview? What line was it?

Nah people repeated a line from tonight's preview for next week's episode a shitton right after the preview aired. You can find it 2 or 3 pages back if you want, probably still un spoiler tagged

edit: well, that one too cornballer, but I'm talking about how many people posted
you're damn right

With the exception of the one from Gorillaz this evening, those are all from last Sunday and Monday.

Edit:
Ah, ok. Thought you were referring to people parroting that line ad nauseam last week. My mistake. Similar problem, though.

which one did I say? ill go back and fix it my bad

nvm saw the quote.

Ive been doing better not quoting stuff from the promo, I know alot of people don't want to be spoiled :/

'I'm in the empire business' BEST DELIVERY EVER
That line was hot fire.

Great episode, my favorite season so far, sad to see that they're only 2 episodes left.

As for tonight's episode, holy shit Walt is an insane idiot, fuck him man, I was sorta hoping that he would get redeemed somehow but fuck him, he gets an open opportunity to leave but nope, he still hung over the Gray Matter(it was probably his fault as to why he ended up leaving, he probably wanted complete control over the company.). I don't care if shit goes sour for him. Still love Walt as a character because his fuckups and hubris make for some really entertaining television. Side note, who else thought that Todd was gonna end up saving Walt when he was handcuffed to the furnace?

as for the next episode(I haven;t watched the previews yet). I'm guessing Walt's "everybody wins" plan is gonna involve him selling himself to that other meth crew.

Can/t wait!

edit: twas nice to see funny jesse, it's been a while.
