Leave myself zipper tied one handed in a surrounding area full of fucking objects? I'm 100% positive that I'd manage to break out of such an ordeal if it were important enough.

I personally would have shattered my glasses and tried to cut through it that way.

I don't know why you guys are apologizing for that particular scene. It was uncharacteristic of Mike, overly convenient and lazy writing at its worst.
Those werent your average zip ties though.

People forget, Walt was very unhappy and depressed with his life and felt like a failure prior to cooking and selling meth. Now he's in a position where his hard work and talent is heavily respected and not to mention he's been wildly successful. Going from this, back to his mundane, boring life would be torture for him. That's motivation enough for him to stay in the business. It's not about the money or his family - it never was - it's about getting the respect and success he felt that he has always deserved. He'd rather be a king in destitute than a wealthy peon.

speaking of the avclub review, they said something similar:

But thanks to its unusually candid dialogue, “Buyout” gives us a new reason. Walter believes what he has—not just the physical resources of supplies and equipment he possesses, but more fundamentally, his native resources of intelligence and invention—is of infinite and absolute worth. And he’s not going to stop until he’s been fairly compensated for them.

The wait for the last 8 episodes will be so brutal.

Only two episodes left, the cold opening, most of the next episode seems to be about the conclusion to this episodes cliffhanger, hank hasn't found out yet, Jesus.

Breaking Bad has been amazing thus far. I've long maintained The Shield has the best final season of any show, but I think Breaking Bad has the potential to surpass it. Not saying it's certain/guaranteed but so far it's been stunning.

What Walt said this episode about Gray Matter just further proves that he has always had this in him. A way to redeem himself from making that decision to sell his share, and this meth business is his solution to get what he feels he deserves.

in basic terms he is basically a dude who feels like he has been dealt shit his whole life. Now that he has lost everything (his wife, pretty much his kids, his health, etc..) he is saying FUCK THIS and going for everything he thinks he ever deserved.

the dinner scene was so crazy. I can't believe we are only getting two more episodes till next year. There should be an online petition to complain about it. Hasn't it already been filmed?

Yep

thats why i said he looks to be going all in this time around

That would be a an odd petition. We want the rest of the show even though it's not finished!

I would sign it.

That dinner scene was tremendous. Aaron Paul just killed it this week.

I read Sepinwall's review, and while I didn't feel it when I was watching, now that I think about it, I agree with him that the episode did move at too fast of a pace. Hopefully that isn't an issue going forward. There are only 10 episodes left in the series (!!!), so I don't necessarily see it getting any slower.

Had to watch this episode on repeat. This is turning out to be such an amazing season. Only this show could have melting a kid in acid and awkward conversations at a dinner table in the same episode.

Great episode.

This show is kind of like Weeds...except it didn't shit all over itself.

It handled the getting over your head so much better than Weeds did...and then Weeds shit all over itself.

Anyway, I have trouble calling this 'the last season'. It's totally just two short seasons.

Wait, what? This show is almost nothing like Weeds, in premise or execution or narrative structure or anything.

Walt pretty much has to die at this point. Personally, I think he's going to off Mike before Skyler and Jesse decide he needs to be dealt with. Walt's creepy carefree whistling after the kid gets murdered and Skyler's comment a few episodes back about needing to protect her family from the man who protects the family...

He's gone off the deep end.

GREAT episode. I've been kinda disappointed in this season otherwise, but tonight's episode finally warrants some of that "Best show" acclaim that certain people here give BB.

Mike spending all night with Walt and then lazily tying him up was a bit stupid, though. Still, I bought it enough. Only really bothered me in retrospect.

Its been going on for the entire season Soc.
I don't watch the previews. For reasons like that. From your post it seemed like you were saying that Skyler comes clean to her sister. Now understood.

Haven't read anything so far about last nights's episode in this thread, im currently in the middle of it. Just wanted to state this the dinner is the most awkward dinner in fucking history. :lol :lol

Edit: Eat your heart out, McGyver! Chemistry!!

I Have a strong feeling Walt is going to make Todd kill Mike.
Hope that doesn't happen though.
Sounds like a pretty solid prediction. They wrote that tense moment between Mike and Todd (when Mike aggressively grabbed Todd) for a reason.

Also, anyone figure out what that spider trapped in the glass jar symbolizes? It must have some hidden meaning or metaphore. Also what's the name of that species? Arachnolgist-GAF, help me out.

That was the spider that the kid had in the last episode, right? I thought that was showing that he kept something from the kid and might also be a little weird and sadistic, lol. I'm sure there's some other foreshadowing in there.
