Fighting Games Weekly | August 20-26

He should be pretty happy about the event. He won both big games and I think there were some big pot bonuses.

Edit: someone post a summary when he is done please.

Assuming he gets paid what was promised, I think he got 5K each for Marvel and AE and a few hundred for SFxT. Not bad at all.

As soon as I tuned in he was trolling CJShowstopper again. Now he's learning Strider.

I would like to know what he said earlier about Revelations too.

I doubt he will talk shit about it. Hes all about that paypuh only way he will is if he never gets paid. (And he prolly did get paid already just to plug it)

I think it's good that you made a post. The more people who bring awareness to TL's dirty practices, the less we'll see them in the future.

Or at least people will be very careful.

I think there is one cracker of a markman tell all book to be released one day to get those Daigo dollars.

The sad thing is, if TL were to close shop and Revelations were to disappear West Coast will have basically only NCR and SCR for the entire year, plus maybe Northwest Majors. EVO can also be considered to be a West Coast event, but it'll be quite sad to see so few majors in the West Coast. Does anyone know what is happening to that Madcatz championship?

Looks like the ad for our next big tourney is done, so I figured I'd share it.

Pretty sure Frutsy and Taekua are coming, but besides that, Combofiend is pretty much a magnet that will attract players so you should probably expect other good Mexican players that didn't have a chance to make a name for themselves last EVO.

Ya gonna do a GAF shoutout in spanish, Solar? :D

Only if I'm ever allowed near the mic, so not likely sorry xD

I mean, we already had people complaining about the commentary last time, so no way in hell I of all people get a chance there :P Unless I convince them to do and stream a P4A side-tourney that is, but considering the (lack of) interest towards the game here, yeah...

The West Coast will bounce back. I believe the Fresno scene is trying to get bigger events going and something in the middle of California would be good. And, someone will step up and create another major.

Early impressions of JoJo on PSN and XBL, get on dat ish ya cheap bums!
Right, I just played through the demo as Jotaro, and I'm amazed that I forgot just how much damn fun the game is.

First things first - the settings. As arit said, the menus are in English, as is everything else, so it must be set to your machine's language. Cool beans. Also, not only does it have "visual expression" (blood or sweat) settings, but also filter settings too, so if you don't like the "HD" filter, you can turn it off for good ol' retro-style pixel art gloriousness! Not that I had much of a problem with the filter, except for the jagged lines around sprites that appear sometimes.

Otherwise, you've got three rounds of Story Mode, with four characters to choose from: Jotaro, Avdol, Hol Horse (<3) and Dio. Control is smooth as silk, moves come out like butter, no execution barriers here. Graphics are fast, colourful and smooth too, no hitches, all cut scenes are in English, and loading times are mercifully short between matches. Good job, so far.

To the guy who said there was something wrong with the sound - nope, it sounds just like that in the Dreamcast version (I can't tell you about how it compares to the arcade original, for obvious reasons, but I expect it sounds the same, too).

No online multiplayer in the demo, though - booooooo. I can't say if the game has local multi or not - I only have one controller for PS3, sorry.

I dunno about twenty bucks worth, but it is a good version of JBA, I can say that. I'll probably end up getting it just because I'm a JoJo fanboy, myself.

Kaijima - sadly, no, but at least you don't have that smear filter anymore!

WNF is like a mini major when people show up. It just seems like to me from an outsider perspective, FGC and money will always end in some kind of drama (mostly from Capcom guys).

Yep, that was me! We met at GameCon, me and a couple friends made the drive up to Little Rock for SSF4, and I remember you were the only one to up there to talk to me, that meant alot, thanks. I would LOVE to come and hang out to play casual matches, watch, etc. But, the gas just driving up would probably eat me alive, lol. It's all good, I'm cheering for you guys, it's amazing to me how you keep getting huge FGC names to come to ARK. Keep it up.

Thanks! Building this community has definitely had its challenges, but it's been quite fulfilling :). Unfortunately this will probably be the last ARK or at least the last ARK as it currently stands. I'm probably retiring as a T.O. after this one.

If you don't mind me asking (and you can send me a PM on this if you don't feel comfortable putting it on here), where do you live? The Arkansas Fighting Game Network (https://www.facebook.com/groups/373796221942/) has 300 people in its Facebook group and if you're not already in there, we're always looking for more. We're trying to start scenes everywhere... although IIRC, you live in Northwest Arkansas and there are several groups that play up there. I could get you in contact with them if you haven't already.

And we've definitely been privileged to always get a big name starting with ARK III. Honestly though, it's all due to Justin Wong. That guy is beyond nice and generous. I have so much respect for him as a player and a person.

Did Champ say anything about AE ?

He was the safe bet taking marvel but it was a surprise seeing him win AE, sure he was lucky not to meet the 2 Rufuses but it's still not easy to take a ~100 major ether way.

It didn't look like Champ had much to say about Revelations. He was like "yeah I won" and then jumped back into the lab.

He did mention that he invited Infrit to visit the FGTV house.

According to Jiyuna ir's nothing new. It has to do with Chie in awaken mode.

Basically it is something like:

* As Chie, go into awakening mode
* Don't immediately do her awakening super

He is right, this mix up was discovered day 1, but hasn't been seen since.

Triforce getting in on the fun

Flash and Jebailey going at it too.

The drama never ends!

Fun times.

Kind of interesting how Revelations essentially exploded this powder keg.

It cant be this simple.

He said he practiced for two days, watched old videos, and started feeling himself before deciding "man, i'm pretty godlike"

He said he thinks Snake Eyes is a cool guy and that his play was "phenomenal". Said he got lucky getting matched against Zangief in the final because the matchup is 6-4, but because Zangief wins once inside, he thinks it's closer to 5-5.

re: Revelations, he pretty much said his opinion of tournaments and the organizers comes down to having setups and paying players with food being available nearby. He said he's been paid his winnings from two previous tournaments organized by John Nelson and expects the same this time around, too. He defended Team Hazmat from people who were complaining about their stream, saying it's their first major and people shouldn't be so critical.

He also mentioned on SRK that he attended because of sponsor obligations.

Totally agree that HAZmat is being unfairly maligned here- they're still relatively new.
