Is Butter_stick perm'd? He said something about his next ban would be a perm. He seemed cool, what he do? Anyone know?
Woah. Though I'm kinda not surprised. Anyone know why/where?!

I agree. I don't see why it is not explained why members, especially particularly popular/infamous members, get banned. Worst case scenario: the rest of us learn something.I have no idea why the people in that thread were banned.
I guess this is the place to say that I hate when mods ban a bunch of people in a thread and lock the thread without saying anything. If you're gonna machinegun users out of existence, and close a thread, is a single post saying why stuff is unacceptable out of the question?
Without a doubt, secrecy about bannings and thread closures is the worst thing about moderation on GAF.

I think consistency is really a false virtue (or, you know, a hobgoblin). The goal isn't to ban people for certain prescribed behaviors, it's to ban people for making the board worse. Doing that requires context -- which inevitably means that some people will be banned for stuff others won't be, because of the context of the thread and/or their posting history.
Same here, that's some crazy shit. I don't understand most of those bans.Damn that thread. Glad I missed it.
GAF tries to stay away from meta discussions as much as possible, me thinks.I agree. I don't see why it is not explained why members, especially particularly popular/infamous members, get banned. Worst case scenario: the rest of us learn something.
Banning people for objectifying women maybe? That's what it looks like.

For clarification on that thread:
Posters were banned for a variety of reasons (masturbation/sex comments, show us pics, etc.); none of these things are appropriate in any other thread and there was no reason to believe they were okay in that thread.
No one was permed. The bans issued were fairly short in duration. Even the juniors got slaps on the wrist; this was a relatively leniently moderated topic.

Ah ok. That's not too bad at all then I suppose. For clarification on that thread:

I've seen literally thousands of masturbation jokes and sex comments on this forum, in threads about every topic imaginable, that haven't resulted in a ban.

Now one of the mods will tell you it isn't a new rule, its always been there and nothing has changed.
that's not the issuesee? I was right all along.
Don't say such stupid crap and you won't get banned.
I'm guessing because it was geared towards a specific person and not just some vague or high status entity.Yeah... I'm not seeing how telling someone to masturbate is bannable. We get a bunch of threads about sex every week.
No Chick Fil A.
No masturbation.
It's like you guys don't want me to live.
The Skype chat is still active, the lounge is still empty but it's a complete state, I can hear shouting outside and a car alarm.
Edit - Police Siren...
The hell are you going on about? Wrong thread? There was a lot of arguing and I heard a loud smash, but things seem to be winding down. I still don't know what's going on though.
Edit - Holy shit!

that's not the issue
the issue is that I (and I think many others) have never seen people get banned for saying these kind of stupid things and god knows we had a lot of friend over or roommate having sex etc threads over the years
there was no update that this is now enforced or anything, just a thread popped up where pretty much everyone got banned
but, well I guess people know now
