Halo 4 OST Samples and Details Released

From what I have heard so far it's pretty amazing. Im not usually one for game soundtracks but Halo has something special out it. Will probably get it on amazon or iTunes when it's out.

Soundtrack is nice, but it feels a bit more generic action game-musc-ish.
The halo soundtracks were always a bit different from the rest.

A different direction to be sure. I'm not quite feeling it myself.

Beauty of Cortana is freaking awesome though. At leas the first part before the rock kicks in.

Im really liking it, and while it may not sound like 'Halo', it sounds good and Halo like. I just really hope the Halo theme sneaks its way in, even if it is very subtle such as the way it snuck into the ODST and Reach score.

I like Awakening the most, but the samples generally sound good to me. It sounds different, and that's exactly what needed to happen.

The soundtrack to 2012's GOTY folks!

As other have said above, I am getting both a Mass Effect and Uncharted vibe from some of these pieces.. I like em, I just hope they will hit the high points that Martys music did.

Also, I forgot to mention that I love the idea of the Remix album:

"The Halo 4 Soundtrack is destined to become the most successful selling gaming soundtrack ever. Microsoft / Xbox will be shortly announcing a ground breaking collaboration between Halo 4 composer / producer Neil Davidge of Massive Attack fame and 16 of the world s most renowned electronica remixers including Skrillex vs Knife Party, Sander Van Doorn, Gui Boratto, Caspa, DJ Skee, Bobby Tank, Matt Lange and Apocalyptica to mention a few. The Halo 4 game and Halo 4 Soundtrack are global priority releases for Microsoft / Xbox and the OST will be released on October 22nd, two weeks before the game release on Nov 6th 2012. There will be a fully strategized global PR campaign co-ordinated by Edelman PR and highlights include a global Halo 4 remix app competition launched in September 2012 in conjunction with Soundcloud, Facebook and Xbox. The Halo Waypoint website (http://halo.xbox.com) will place and prioritise a pre order microsite which sees monthly traffic of over 1.2 million unique user per month. Also + 6 exclusive free download remixes via a unique redemption voucher including 3 remixes and 3 Neil Davidge tracks from the Halo 4 Game"

We are really in for some nice treats.. I do like the sample tracks we heard, though the heavy guitar on the Cortana track was a bit much..

This makes me very :(

I understand why it isnt in Reach or ODST, those weren't MC stories. But this is MCs story. It should be in there.

Its not as if the franchise bombed like the last Superman Movie and they need to redo everything. The theme is the theme. You don't fucking take that out!
Yeah.

The return of the Halo theme would potentially make for one of the most powerful moments in the game, especially if it was used sparingly.... right at the end, maybe.

It's not just a weird decision that Davidge is making, to totally abandon his inheritance -- it's a bad one.

I can understand why he'd want to start afresh, stylistically, but this is still Halo 4... blargh... at least the new material is 10x better than what most other VG composers manage.

It sounds good, I guess, but I'll have to see how it fits within the game. Revival was the standout for me as it was the closest to a Halo type soundtrack. I guess that's my biggest concern with this music, even though it sounds good, you don't necessarily recognize it as Halo music unless you were told. Marty's work was always recognizable and you always knew you were listening to Halo music. I'm keeping an open mind though and will wait to play the game before judging.

$75, however, for the SE OST is a freaking rip off IMO.

The Halo theme comes from haloeses.

You know, those rings and the mysteries that come with them.

They aren't in this game. New worlds, new enemies, new mysteries.

Makes sense that the Halo theme won't be in this.

Eh, I don't agree, I think the old theme has its place with Master Chief and Cortana.

Also, from the e3 demos (potential spoilers):

Seems like a "Halo" theme still has its place, so hopefully it returns.

I like it, but it just doesn't sound like Halo to me. Nothing from what I've heard is something that I'd hear ~5 seconds of and instantly know it was Halo, unlike everything Marty did for Halo 1-3. Disappoints me, to be completely honest.

So you folks want the poor guy to go in there and not do his own work, his own way?

You'd like him to just block his creativity and try to copy Marty's work?

Everything in Halo 4 is being made from scratch. Whole new team with new ideas. Let them do their own thing.

It doesn't need to sound like Halo to be good or enjoyable.

The problem is that some of the sounds, (like from the latest video in the other thread) just sound like generic rip-offs. Like that Back to the future sample in the beginning of the last video.

Im all for him making the soundtrack his own style, but man, im not watching Back to the future either.

Heck, I'm lovin' it. And now I go to Mcdonalds.

I think it sounds great. I think each game in the series has its own feel, and while Halo 3's piano theme will probably remain my favorite, I really like the energy in this score. Can't wait to hear it in-game.

I can only assume what Revival might potentially mean for the story and if its one of the 2 things I am thinking of I am hyped!

no, i don't think anyone is saying that. the halo theme is a major part of halo's identity, especially for a game that is a direct continuation of the original trilogy. this would be like a James Bond movie not featuring the signature theme. (even though im sure that's happened) even the movie Casino Royale, which was pretty much a reboot of the entire franchise had the theme at the very end.

I want every other part of the soundtrack to be unique, i'd even be fine with him changing up the theme to match the tone of the rest of the game, but in my opinion it has to be in there, or i'll be very dissapointed.

I have loved every bit of music that we have heard so far, im sure that will continue when i get home and can listen to these samples

I agree.

Bingo.

I like the soundtrack but it feels like a departure. It's very cluttered and electronic compared to the very simple orchestrated pieces that marty produced. It lacks the stoic nature, the sense of grandure and wonder attached to what halo was/is. I think the original theme really set the tone for the series, the religious conotations with the monks, but also the mystery of what halo was, then you had the really enegertic scores that kinda set the tone for gameplay.

This seems a bit more all over the place, but, with the right direction i think it'll be interesting.

I miss Marty even more. but I'll hold my judgement until I can play the game and listen to the music in context.
This. I really don;t even want to listen to the clips now so I don't ruin the game, but jesus, no Marty or Martin is not making me super confident. Halo 3: ODST is the bestest Halo soundtrack ever (yes I think it beats the original score which I love to no end). Over the years, I have found I play videogames more for their soundtracks and atmosphere than "gameplay". MGS3, Half Life 2, Halo, Zelda, Super Meat Boy were all games I got more out of the ambiance of the narrative, atmosphere or music than I did anything else out of them.

This really just feels generic... Its not terrible, just nothing that I could hum 10 years down the road.

Yeah, while I can appreciate it, I'm not feeling the music at all so far. I did like the music in the original trailer but that's it. Maybe it'll sink in and I'll appreciate it more during the campaign.

Interesting points in this post but it's tough to judge a soundtrack based off a few samples.

Here's an unreleased track that has that sense of mystery you are looking for I think:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auuOQws_TjA&sns=em

I can see this being played as you walk out to a wide open expanse on the new planet Requiem. It's full of mystery and wonder but also has a tinge of something far more sinister.

Dig most of them. Even the remixes sound good to me.

The tone that "To Galaxy" hits on the remix around 1:33 or so is fucking cool. I wish I knew how to describe music, tone and effects.

Just posted this in the Halo OT but because apparently we are now talking about Half Life 2 in there I'll move over here:

Just catching up with the soundtrack...it is good. It is not Marty's work which is both good and bad. Also, my favorite song is still from that old preview. This one.

I want to get the LE soundtrack but 75 is a little steep considering I plan on buying the LE game as well as both controllers.

With Reach I bought the Legendary Edition, the console, the headset, and three controllers. That was way too much money. Probably around $800.

Love it love it love it. More interesting than Marty's scores, for sure. Not necessarily better, but I love the new style. I love how each piece kind of tells a story through the music.

Revival is for sure going to be playing when
The Didact's Cryptum is revived.

Yeah.

Oh absolutely man, i'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it!! Imagine MC just walking out some broken ass ship for the final battle at the end and that good old theme just starts....god damn you cant beat that shit! Hopefully SOMEONE at 343i will realize this.

Totally agree. That would be simply fantastic!

To Galaxy added as ringtone.

That could basically be the new theme right there, but I assume it's for when the Infinity heads out on its mission.

Though it's still early days... I like the previous Halos and Martys work much better. So far from what I've heard of Halo 4, it doesn't have the same epic-grand orchestrated feel that previous Halos (specifically Halo 3) had. Like someone said before, it's too electronic for me.
