COMICS! August l OT l So what's new with comics?

Read a couple of books this week (mostly reading a month behind on the iPad):

Superman #11: So the big reveal of the secret Russian find is...the Predator, but slightly visually altered to avoid outright copyright infringement. But seriously, right down to the dreads. Why? This book is not really good per se, but it's so darn unapologetically comic booky that it has a certain charm.

Justice League Dark #11: A part of me has some kind of conceptual problem with John Constantine casting magic missile on evil wizards while shouting superteam orders like Duke from GI Joe. The rest of me is like fuck it, this book is awesome. One of DC's top 5 easily.

Batman Incorporated #2: But this was the best thing I read. This could have just read like a lame clip show, but the art brought it up a level, really entertaining stuff.

Rob Liefeld walks off three DC titles ‘to preserve my sanity’

Ha ha ha ha wow, DC.

You don't hire Liefeld to put him in a cage, no matter what you or I might think about him. They really are a staggeringly poorly run ship over there.

You just sold me on that. Wonder if it's like the one in Mad Bull 34? lol

Any of the Monkeybrain bananas any good?

Edison Rex #1 was a really strong opener - definite buy
Masks and Mobsters #1 - good one-shot, buy if curious
Bandette #1 - fairly good, doesn't really stand out by itself but i'd be intrigued enough for a second issue.

You guys aren't getting Wander? Way to support my peoples.

I'm Quimby-Style. If you were running for Mayor I'd vote for you!

Come on, guys.

No Bobby isn't. He is confirmed by a cover for Bendis's All New X-Men or whatever.Blah.

But Broo trolling Stark was brilliant. Broo, is he smarter than everyone except Reed/Doom?

Preview is during AvX so Charles is still not in the clear.

I haven't bought a physical comic in a while, but where does Marvel stick their digital redemption code? Just wondering, I have to figure they might be worried about people copying or remembering them (ie dial the code in your phone) while skimming the book. The again perhaps its just 25 digits and a non issue. lol

Normally on a page towards the back under a sticker.

Lol I can actually see some dumbass worry about that... Sometimes I'm ashamed of the people I call peers...

Worse I could see them buy two copies, one to preserve next to jars of urine and the other to obtain the digital code.

The sticker makes sense since other wise people would be redeeming the crap out of those codes without buying the comics.

Question: Why doesn't SWORD just lend the Avengers that machine the Shi'ar used to hurt the Phoenix in Endsong? Or why don't the Shi'ar lend a hand? They seem to have zero qualms about interfering in Earth's matters when it comes to the Phoenix, despite any and all rights they don't have to do that.

They already came to Earth to give it a go in one of the WatXM issues (well, the lending a hard part, not the useful machinery)- it turns out that Anti-Phoenix Deathtroops aren't what they used to be, and Gladiator got beaten senseless and dragged to the school afterwards.

Iron Man #1 Preview

Marvel Comics continues its week of interior reveals for upcoming books in the Marvel NOW! publishing initiative following the conclusion of the epic "Avengers Vs. X-Men" mega-event. First, it was Stuart Immonen's interior art for "All-New X-Men" #1. Then, the publisher debuted Esad Ribic's pages for "Thor: God of Thunder" #1. Today, Marvel has provided CBR with an exclusive first look at Greg Land's interiors for "Iron Man" #1, written by Kieron Gillen.

The upcoming "Iron Man" relaunch will focus on Tony Stark's relationship with women, multiple new suits of armor and the Extremis aspect of the Armored Avenger in five one-and-done issues.

"[H]e’s a morally complex guy," Gillen said after the initial announcement of the book. "Just the fact that he found himself put in, inarguably, the position of the bad guy for a while, and that he defended it. He crushes it, actually, and there’s a lovely bit in "Avengers Vs. X-Men" where he goes to Cap, 'You know, you’re actually arguing what I was arguing [in 'Civil War'],' which I loved."

Yeah I thought they were nice too.

Oh can anyone suggest where to start with Deadpool (in terms of what's on Comixology) and which Ultimate Universe comics are good (already own the first two Ultimates Ultimate and working on the third now)?

Thanks

Way's run is kind of hit or miss as far as quality goes. The x-men arc is pretty cool though, as is the dark reign arc. I also get a kick out of deadpool vs thunderbolts but everything else is kinda blah

Don't get Ultimates 3 whatever you do! Ultimate Universe stuff you should read are:

Ultimate Spider-man (ALL of it, except boring ass Miles Morales stuff)
Ultimate X-Men 1-65

Oops. Already read 1-6 and 13-14 (which I've liked a lot) The first part felt a bit all over the place though. Divided we Fall is pretty cool so far. I almost want to check out the side stories with it.

Still 3.99 is such a pain in the ass price point....I'll keep buying though.

Cool any thoughts on Ultimate Haweye and Ultimate Captain America?

Ultimate Hawkeye was alright. It branches off from Loeb's disastrous Ultimate X mini, so it does the best it can with an abysmal supporting cast.

I don't remember Ultimate Captain America. I read the one-shot a while back, but I can't remember if he had a mini series afterwards. It wasn't good.

See I am stuck in a hard place.

One, Land.

Two, I loved Gillen's work in UXM and his work with UNIT was magnificent and sold me on him writing tech villains. But at least doesn't feel like porno.....yet.

So how risque is Pepper going to look in her Rescue suit?

Geez, the Shi'ar are gonna get wrecked then if Jean ever decides to pay them back for murdering her family. These people had the tech to shoot the Phoenix and hurt it so bad it had to ask Jean to comfort it. Again, the Shi'ar made a Cosmic force of Life run crying to its mama, and now that it's technically at 1/5th of its power, if not less (isn't Jean still collecting parts?), and they get wrecked by it already?

Heaven help the Empire if they ever have to deal with anything stronger than the Phoenix, then.

So I read the latest Uncanny X-Men. Pretty mediocre. KG is obviously great but that was below par for him. Seems like AvX is having a negative impact on the quality of UXM and WatXM. They were better before it and will likely be back to being better when it's over.

Yeah, I felt like he was forced to rush an end to something that he had been building since the beginning of the series because he'll be leaving the series and it's getting cancelled with no word of relaunch yet.

So what are the odds on:

a) Ultra lazy: Predominantly using Iron Man movie stills and promotional renders
b) Oddly resource intensive: snapping pics of a Hot Toys Iron Man figure

for the tracing?

Venom was alright this week! Maybe it will be okay? Remender established quite a rock solid setup for the character after all.
Alpha was fairly awful in ASM, arent we supposed to care just a little about the kid before the asshole turn? I'm not really liking Slott's work lately.

indeed.

Also don't even get me started on the amazing spider-man 692. Is Alpha supposed to be a douchebag? Or are we supposed to sympathize or something? I didn't get that whole ordeal or what I was supposed to feel if anything. All I concluded is that he is annoying and has an annoying face and I no longer want to see him any more.

I'm pretty sure he is supposed to be a dick.

I still can't believe Johnathan "I don't like writing minorities characters because I make them come off as fake" Hickman is pushing Black Panther

But I'll take it. Finally, a big-name writer on BP. Hell, he may even be the leader of the (New) Avengers, at this rate.

BP getting ongoing ?

I listened to that WB and it sounded he was more worried about sounding authentic and believable.

Where is Hank Pym in Marvel NOW ?

If my theory about the Avengers Academy kids about the new New Avengers is right (Hickman said that when we saw the new NA team, we'd be like "that makes sense", and that's what makes sense to me"), I'd imagine that Hank would be leading that team.

I deeply deeply regret spending money to finish the first volume of S.H.I.E.L.D confusing and dull. Just a waste of money on my end.

On the bright side I really like Hawkeye 1, very enjoyable and pretty humorous too.
