Dota 2 Beta Thread 2: Real Talk Discouraged [Magnus, Teams, 6.75b, 150+ Shop Items]

I'd say this is truly the most accurate assessment. Everyone in this competition could win if they play in top form.
-aL is the closest to being counted out, because they both lack lan experience AND have been in a slump lately, but when they came on the scene they were REALLY strong.
-M5, mTw, and Darer are inconsistent online but they all seem to really step up their game at LAN events.
-Orange an MUFC are relatively unknown in tournaments at this level, it depends on how they handle the pressure and how well they prepped.
-All the big Chinese teams can put in work for sure but they started off their prep behind everyone else in terms of dota 2 experience.
-coL has never played on lan.
-EG and CLG always seems to place high but never quite make it to the top in lans.
-Na'Vi and Zenith don't quite seem as invincible as they once did.
To sum it up: God DAMN I'm excited.
I'm rooting for Zenith, coL, Orange, Na'Vi, and whoever makes fun picks in their drafts when those aren't available.
Starts August 26th till 28th.
So what are these dates for then? August 31st till September 2nd.

There will be a group stage where everyone plays each other, this is to determine ranks. Then it will be elimination rounds which I believe starts August 31st.

Hey guys I've been playing Dota 2 a lot lately and was just wondering a few things about the tradeable items. I've been to the dota 2 item database site.
I never played Team Fortress 2 or any other game that involved the backpack system so it is completely foreign to me.
What I'm wondering is how exactly you go about acquiring items other than purchasing/trading for them. I know you randomly get them after certain games. For instance, I received a Tidehunter offhand called Squiggles recently, a random bracer for Ursa, and a bunch of treasure chests your need keys for.
I also have noticed not many characters have items yet, at least that's how it appears. So for example I really like Lina and seems there is only a taunt available for her called Get Burned or something along those lines. I noticed you can't buy it, so how would I go about getting this item? Is it just an ultra rare random drop in a chest or can it be randomly obtained at the end of a match?
Lots of confusing stuff to me and have spent a lot of time trying to find information for it to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Items come in a variety of ways.
Everytime you level up
Random drop
Chest
trade
buy
There are a ton of heros and its still early so naturally all characters dont have stuff yet as alot of the models arent even available yet for the community but they doing a good job releasing them.
If there is something specific you want trading or buying is the way to go because the odds you just getting said item in drop is small especially with so much stuff already available.

None of the taunts have been made available for purchase yet. You can obtain items by random drops at the end of a match, by opening chests dropped at the end of the match with a key ($2.50), trading, or buying directly from the store. And now there's this pennant system they just introduced this week where you get items if you purchase a pennant for the team you're watching live, if they make a BIG PLAY. There are still a TON of heroes missing items - the item system itself is still only a couple months old and not all the hero models have been made ready for customization, or some heroes just don't have anything good enough yet that's been approved in the Workshop.

Go into any trade chat channel and you should be able to find people trading invites for some keys.
Been mentioned yeah, I even just got a popup about it with a big picture saying IT NOW INCLUDES DOTA 2 AND CS:GO!!!!
And when you click on it, it says Dota 2 is released...
But it might just be the spectator client thing, I wonder if actually buying Valve complete pack will give you beta access now though. Guess it does.

A few pages back and all that, but yeah. The item buildup offers everything that Necrolyte needs, but the actual ult upgrade is one of the worst in the game. If that rumoured buff comes to pass (Aghs ult damage being rendered pure instead of magical, roughly a 25% buff on that conversion alone and worth a lot more with increased magic resistance), then the increased missing health to damage ratio actually amounts to quite a healthy chunk of effective damage, one that doesn't fall off in the lategame (barring effective BKB/magic immunity use). It'd bump up Aghanim's from "never" to "strongly consider" (especially if you build an early Point Booster and complete a utility item like a Mek, Rod of Atos, or Force Staff first).

No. It just shows support. Every spectator can see what team is more popular.

No, you pay a lot of money to keep people out of tournaments. That's how it's done.
Probably Navi. I don't follow the competitive scene all that closely, but aside from Mouz they're the team I'm most familiar with and they seem to have some really sick play.

It's the spectator client.
You can now download the client to spectate only. You'd need an invite to actually play the game.

Would anyone know why I wouldn't be receiving points after matches? I'm doing normal 5v5 queue as well. Just won a match and didn't get any points.

Did you DC and reconnect a lot during the match? This happened to me a couple of nights ago.
You know what's strange, I find myself supporting Heros, not teams. For example, if a team has a Templar assasin (my most hated hero) I'll automatically root for the other guys. Do you have a team without a wind runner, SK or tide? Then you'll have my support. Oh and if a teams picks something unique like a alchemist, ursa or sniper, I'm theirs.
I think this is mostly due to the fact that I don't really "know" any of these teams though I will default to a merikan team should you put a gun to my head. But yeah, I'm usually all about the Heroes picked. Ogre magi has a particularly soft spot with me.
I just hope we get to see some rare heroes this time around instead the standard 15 or so everyone rolls. So sick of tide, wind runner, SK, invoker, AM, lycan, chaos, furion, SD and the rest. And yeah I realize these guys are picked all the time for a reason but still, sick of seeing them.
