You consider Alonso a deep-lying playmaker? Ok... Javi has a much better vision than Alonso, and still I don't consider him a play-maker.
They are DMs with vision/passing skills. Schweinsteiger is a deep-lying playmaker.

good thing we have both Martinez and Schweini. :)

Fucking jog on.

I think Javi is/will be a better version of Alonso. So suck it :)
At least we didn't paid 30M for Coentrao.

What yoy think doesn't always fit with to reality.

Martínez better than Alonso? In which Universe?

That Coentrao pun really hurted :lol

he is right

No, he most definitely is not.

Two Bayern Munich fans think a 23 year old has better vision than the best playmaker in world football (who doesn't play for Barcelona), fucking laughable. Seriously laughable.

A potent mix of bias and revisionism.

Like how many times have you actually watched Martinez as DM? Twice?

you can argue about martinez but alonso is certainly not the best playmaker in the world.

So City miss out on another target. Story of the window so far.

I want to hope #basedmarwood has a real ace up the sleeve. But I doubt it. Window has been a frigging disaster.

Only a disaster for Newcastle in terms of strengthening.

City don't need players.

Also, I hate you.

Pirlo is a better play-maker than Alonso out of players who play in that position, I'd say.

Come on, leave elsk some excitement. With players like Schweini, Kroos, Ribery and Shaqiri, Martinez doenst have to be THE playmaker if he just plays well within the flow of the game and doesnt stop everytime he touches the ball (Tymo i'm lookin at you), he'll already be worth it.

alonso was incredible in his first two season at madrid, but, the more i see him play, the more i think he's developed into a mostly ferocious, hard-hitting midfielder. i blame mourinho.

pirlo's like the slightly slower, italian xavi. what a legend. i agree that he's better than alonso.

I think in terms of consistency in the last 7 or 8 years Alonso has been better, and he's done it against better opposition. Pirlo's been great for Juventus last season, and at the Euros, but I don't think he's been as good as Alonso over an extended period.

Eh? Excitement's fine, if we'd signed Martinez I'd be jizzing all over my front room, and on here. I wouldn't be talking out of my arse, though.

Pirlo and occasionally Scholes? They're at least equal.

They're both very, very close.

If I had to choose between them though I'd still pick Alonso, marginally. I think his overall game is better.

schweinsteiger, yaya toure, fabregas (even when he was at arsenal), modric, steven gerrard and freaking pirlo
I rate them all higher than alonso

Is there something in the water in Germany that I'm not aware of?

Yaya Toure a better playmaker than Alonso? Fuck me.

I think Alonso has been a better player over the years, but in that one aspect of their game, I think Pirlo is better.

Alonso is alot more than just a play-maker.

he IS a better playmaker but alonso is a more complete footballer, if that makes any sense.

and I'm not from germany ;)

I don't think the price is THAT crazy. It's alot, sure, £32m is alot of money.

But he's only 23, he is already very good and he could go on to be one of the world's best. If he stays at Bayern for the next 8/9 years and plays the way he did at times for Bilbao last season, it'll be worth it.

It's definitely a helluva lot. Thiago Silva at €42m was the highest transfer fee for a defender ever, wasn't it? He's regarded as the best CB in the world by many, so Martinez for just €2m less is pretty crazy. Definitely could be worth it in the long run though.

Martinez isn't just a defender though. Alot more to him than that.

Modric is a good shout actually. Think he's as good as Alonso. A different type of player mind, a bit more tricky on the ball and not as physical, but damn good nonetheless.

40M is really high but it helps that martinez is paying 10M indirectly
