I always saw Martinez as a ball-winning defensive midfielder whereas Alonso is a deep-lying playmaker in my eyes, but I seem to be the only one to think this :lol

This is more correct than saying Javi has been vision than Alonso.. although Javi can make the runs forward and has a lot of strength but in terms of pure playmaking ability.. Alonso is better.

Maybe a few years ago when Scholes was in his prime. Alonso had more assists last season than Scholes has had in his last four.

Still don't think he's as good as Alonso, to be clear. Don't think any of the names mentioned are, especially fucking Javi Martinez.

Scholes' passing is still up there with the best for me. His vision and ability to set tempo is as good as anybody's even now. Passing stats also are always way up there.

His problem is his physicality. He isn't as consistent as he once was because he gets tired, especially towards the end of games and he can't dictate games as he used to because he can't run as much to receive passes and move into space.

He's still a capable play-maker but not as effective as he used to be, because his body doesn't allow it.

Why not buy Carroll?

I'm serious.

Why? Matri's probably better. But hey, the logic has long left our mercato. For example, why would we go after the living joke that is Bendtner when we have the young and promising Gabbiadini ready & able to join us? I can't guarantee that he's better than Bendtner, but I know for a fact that he isn't worse. Nothing makes any sense anymore. It's just rumors, upon rumors, upon rumors.

I don't know what to believe anymore. :/

Interesting interview about Martinez (warning: in german): http://derbayernblog.wordpress.com/2012/08/29/interview-spielverlagerung-martinez/

There is a Spanish Barca fan who posts here on occasion who said that Javi handled Messi incredibly well last season so he was very disappointed when it was evident they would not sign him. I think he has the potential to be one of the best in the world.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in Roberto's office this week.

Only a disaster for Newcastle in terms of strengthening.

City don't need players.

Also, I hate you.

They do though. Every title winning team in the past has added new players. Fergie always strengthened after winning a title, well maybe not the time there was no value but you get the idea.

City should be no different.

EA have invited Jose Enrique to participate in a Fifa 13 tournament in a few weeks, after the United match. it's a tournament between players from Liverpool, City, and United apparently. Just started spewing about it on Twitter.

Nuri Sahin is available on ESPN's fantasy game for 6.4m. Doesn't look like he is up yet on the official version yet though surprisingly. I have Allen who is 5.9m on ESPN.. should I swap him out for Sahin? I know Allen didn't score many points with Swansea and that seems to be the case again at Liverpool. Is Sahin going to be on the attack more than Allen?

Could be nothing, probably does mean nothing... but on Anderson's instagram (which is hilarious btw, I think he's found his true calling as a DJ) people asked him if Nani was leaving and he replied to say that he isn't.

Plz Andow.

Rummage says Bayern are 'delighted' to sign Martinez.

:(
Sanchez. Hazard. RVP. De Rossi. Martinez.

#basedmarwood must be hanging by a thread.

I'd say he's more of a goal threat than Allen, yes, but with Lucas out I'd still see him as quite reserved in his play. Really won't know what type of player Sahin is until I see him play a few games for us.

Sky's Graeme Bailey

Juventus could be set to break Fiorentina hearts and snatch Dimitar Berbatov according to the Italian media.

From someone else, United are apparently looking at signing Tiote.

Played my first match at pes 2013 final demo. Juventus-Athletic Bilbao 2-1. Great first goal by Giovinco. If you are interested Giovinco 83, Vucinic 80, Matri 78.
They decided to upgrade to Bendtner.
I approve this post.
I think he's going to Fiorentina after all, we're getting Bendtner. One less kit sold. :|
Untill he does 2 goals to Inter.
Which probably will never do

Real pics or didn't happen. lol

Berbatov 5m€, Bendtner 7m€, Carroll 15/20m€???

Bendtner has international experience!!! He played some match!!!

Sky:
According to reports in Italy, AC Milan are trying to arrange a deal to sign Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong. Reports claim Milan will offer €7million (£5.5m), while Netherlands international De Jong is seeking a yearly salary of €5million (£4m).
He only has one year left, but it's ridiculous by City to let it go this far. They could get more than £5m for him. £80k salary is quite a big sum for such a limited DM though.

Now City must find a new DM, fast. With one week to go. Awesome.

Sounds good. I'll hold off for now.. ESPN gives you 20 transfers to use until the new year and I've used 4 already so I'll wait and see for a week or two.

Supposedly de Jong to Milan is getting close.. hopefully Roberto has a replacement lined up since Martinez fell through.

Walcott now staying at Arsenal following 'amicable' talks with Wenger according to BBC.

Marwood, you are no longer based. Goodbye my friend, it was nice talking when you came In to the PR office.

I believe he was on £60k here and the rumor was he wanted £100k which we would not meet. If he is willing to take £80k, I wonder if City will meet him in the middle due to how late in the window it is? He's a great enforcer but if we use a formation where we need to rely on his passing, then it's not worth it. He was pretty cheap to start at least.

I know that Salsano and Platt have been to see Javi Garcia lately so I think we'll definitely make a move for him over the next two days. I think he'd play CB in a 3-5-2 rather than DM, but with Barry back soon, that shouldn't be quite as much of a concern.

Don't think Scholes' game is necessarily about providing assists, just as we saw how misleading Modric's stats are.

For what it's worth I think Yaya, Schweinsteiger and Alonso are the most complete midfielders in the world. Gerrard used to be a pretty perfect midfielder as did Keane.

What do you mean with the last part?

Fucking gaming-side

Pirlo=Alonso>Modric>>Schweinsteiger>>>Martinez

Gerrard doesn;t even come into it these days, not least because he doesn't even play there. Neither does Toure really

Completely serious when I say this but there was a period when Gerrard was the best player in the world bar none. On his day he was the most complete midfielder I have seen.

Oh yeah like I just said above, Gerrard was an incredible player, but I fear he's lost it a little. Nowadays he's miles behind Alonso in consistency.

Best player in the world is a little far though

What do you mean with the last part?

Oops, I guess I was thinking of Clichy's fee. I was thinking de Jong was rather inexpensive as well (less than €10m) but it looks like it was obviously quite a bit higher (£18m). A Hughes special I suppose.

I think in terms of consistency in the last 7 or 8 years Alonso has been better, and he's done it against better opposition. Pirlo's been great for Juventus last season, and at the Euros, but I don't think he's been as good as Alonso over an extended period.
Um.

Pirlo was man of the match three times at the 2006 WC that Italy won, including in the final, where he also scored one of the decisive penalties. He was instrumental in the Milan sides that reached the CL final three times between 2003 and 2007 and won it in both those years: in the latter campaign Milan beat Bayern and Cristiano Ronaldo's Man Utd on their way to the final. He has won Serie A three times (and once pre-Calciopoli, when Italian football was much stronger), with two different clubs. And he has a Club World Cup medal, just for kicks.

At club level, and in terms of individual honours, Xabi Alonso has won far less, especially since leaving for Madrid, and even since Mourinho's arrival Madrid have not been particularly more successful in the CL than Milan were "in the last 7 or 8 years".

At best, the comparison is a wash. Looking closer, and leaving aside Xabi belonging to the greatest generation of international footballers to ever bless one nation at once, it's Pirlo.
