Xbox Live Fall 2012 Dashboard Public Beta - Signup Now

With this the Xbox non gaming experience is leagues ahead of the competition. Especially if one possesses a kinect, the voice control is the sensational and a glimpse of the future of all device interaction.

Where to from here? Next-generation benchmark is set high.

It's the same for me. Booting the console takes around 30 secs, and the guide is always really slow.

Also, "Deal of the Week" is nowhere to be found anymore in this new dashboard.

The panel isn't always there but you get to it by selecting the Sales & Specials panel in the game marketplace. You can also see the dotw within the S&S+ app.

I don't have that panel. There is nothing related to sales or deals in my game marketplace.

EDIT: I measured my boot up time now. 43 seconds. That's ridiculous.
 
Since the latest update my Xbox keeps being unable to connect to my wifi. If I go Network Settings, it sees the network but says it has zero strength so can't connect. No issues with any other devices. Really weird.

(Yes, I will report it in the Beta forums.)

Just wondered if anyone else had anything similar.
 
I just ran into an issue where I cannot bring Guests with me in Reach or Halo 3 matchmaking. The 343 guys said it was a problem with the dash. Why is the feedback section empty for this beta, is there somewhere else to report bugs?
 
is it even possible to play happy wars beta online?
the matchmaking just doesnt work, its always stuck at "retrieving player information".
my nat is open, so that shouldnt be a problem.

That's happened to me, I think when you see that you're trying to join a ongoing game.

Best part about playing as warrior is completely destroying other warriors that don't know how to block.

Remember, its slower FOR YOU.

Post in the forum, let MS know. You can regret being in the beta and whine about it all you want, but what good is that gonna do when it gets released to everyone and you're still slow? Better to face the problem head on now while there's someone to listen to bug reports, and not wait for the next update for someone to pay as much attention.

Tyrax already got at you for the quick launch thing.

yeah, didnt expect that. its ver chaotic and you dont stand a chance until you level up a bit. but still: fun game. i will sink some time (and money) into this (unless the pricing is a rip-off).

First off, quick launch is now called "Recent". Other than the name change it's exactly the same.

Second, I suggest you reformat your hard drive. A couple months ago my Xbox was running very slow. I reformatted and it ran 100x better. I'm almost certain that will fix your problem. Yes, you'll have to redownload all your content, but it's worth it to have the console running like it's new again.

I'll have to try that one day... I'll have to do a backup of all my Rock Band DLC first though, because there is no way in hell I'm downloading hundreds of songs again.
 
Yeah I think this Free to Play system is going to make Microsoft and their consumers pretty happy.

Now all we need is to get PSO2 on this thing.....
 
I got the beta update, but I don't have Gold so I can't use IE or any of the other apps. Is there anything I CAN do with Xbox live silver and this update?

lol how am i supposed to know this? I assumed it's just what i recently played and at first it is. I had to tab over twice to find quick launch/quick play. They've messed with that setting a lot. First it was quick launch on the main first guide button tab. Then it was quick play on the first tab to the left. Now it's recent on two tabs to the left.
 
So i wanna play Happy Wars and i just played the tutorial, but whenever i go into multiplayer, it says "The connection with the host player has been lost. Matchmaking cancelled." WTF.

EDIT: Well i finally got a match on the 8th try.

So the game is awesome but it's so hard to actually find a match for me at least.

How you are supposed to know this? Well in the dashboard it is exactly at the same position as quick play was and it works exactly the same way because quick play also showed you your 10 recently played games/apps.

the matchmaking is a disaster. sometimes its takes a fucking hour to join a game.
i hope they fix it soon, because the game is pretty awesome.
 
from what I've learned you can't join a game in progress... but it will let you join lobbies where the game is in progress and give you a matchmaking error.

the big problem: once you are in a lobby, you are stuck there (until a game starts or the netwotk error message is shown).
there is no way to get back into the main menu, unless you quit out of the game via guide button.
 
Booted up my Xbox today and got prompted for the update. Took more than a week to get it.

The new dashboard looks good, but it's extremely cluttered. And for me, it's partly in Dutch, partly in English, and partly in French. Even if I change my locale, this happens. Tried reporting it on the Connect feedback page, but apparently that one's only for when your console explodes or becomes sentient.

I've joined plenty of games in progress.

They start you off in the lobby for 30sec then plop you right in the middle of the action.

Yep, our dashboard is messy as hell now. A mix of Dutch and English, capitalized words and lower case ones. Really inconsistent, I hope the final product doesn't look like this because it feels really lazy and for the most part would only take 10 minutes to fix.

Yup, it's annoying as fuck. I'm not even on Gold right now, so I can't try out any of the other new functions. And I don't really see the point of pinning games. Then again, I hardly have any arcade games.

What bothers me the most is that 'search games' and 'browse games' are now both labeled as 'zoek games'. If I wanted a Dutch dashboard I'd select Dutch as my language.

This is because part of the dashboard (mainly marketplace stuff) is based on your LIVE ID locale. The country you selected when creating it.

This is known (so you don't need to report it) and Microsoft promised to fix this issue before Windows 8 came out and we all know how that worked out. You will see the same thing if you install W8 on your PC.

They are still working on that stuff with migrating your account with your purchase history but don't count on this being resolved once the final update hits.
 
We have an Xbox upstairs in the den and one in the basement. Has anyone tried re-downloading the Registration App on a second Xbox that you use the same sign-in ID you use on your first Xbox? The update just appeared on the upstairs Xbox, and I'd like to have it on the other one.

As I said, we use the same Gamertag on both boxes.

I formatted my 360 HDD today and the difference is huge. The boot time went from 43 secs to 14 secs. Everything is much faster now.

Now I just have to re-install all my games...

I'll have to try this. Did you move your old content to a different drive or did you just re-download everything? Is it possible to copy from a Slim drive to and one of the old hard drives?

I used an external HDD which the 360 formatted and reserved 32GB of it for 360 data. I moved all of my DLC and saves, and most of my XBLA games to the HDD. After that I formatted the 360 drive and moved everything back again. I only have to re-download 4-5 games that I couldn't fit on the external HDD.

You can't move installed retail games, so those have to be re-installed.

Any USB storage device can be used. Only 32GB can be used though.
