You're referring to Gale's lab book which was dedicated to Walt Whitman.

This book is "Leaves of Grass", a poetry book by Walt Whitman. Gale gave it to Walt in Season 3, "Sunset".

Oh so Gale wrote pretty much the same thing in both books?

In his notebook, full of his research, his own formulas and doodles, he wrote a heading along the lines of... "dedicated to W.W. blah blah- Gale"

And in this one, he wrote "Dedicated to the OTHER W.W. I admire...blah blah..<3 G.B."

So all Hank needs to do is go get the notebook from the DEA. and match the handwriting and similarities between the two scriptures? Which episode is the flashback again? 3-6?

I did the math earlier and he must have been given the book between the cut from the Gale intro/cook and Hank staking out Jesse/calling Walt.

Can't wait for Sepinwall's Gillie interview. Should be a real lidblower on this particular subject.

Can't we just call a spade a spade?

Season 5 was 8 episodes.

Next year is season 6, also 8 episodes.

When a show takes a month break that's one thing, but a year? That's a different season.

Just sayin.

holy shit thats good for a fan version
Arguably too good. I mean, holy shit. Bit long obviously but there's enough eye candy going on to not make it boring after multiple viewings.

Wow, that's awesome. Sort of incredible that Walter is only rivaled by the cousins..

Pretty much. But either way, 6 seasons is better than 5 and 5 seasons with the last having 16 episodes is better than it having 13. Win.

Oh I was thinking we only had to wait till Feburary or April at the longest. Damn, a whole fucking year.

Also that's messed up for the dudes who got spoiled on Boardwalk in here. Not cool. And it's a great show.

I can't wait for it to return, it should be a fantastic ending.

I just caught up with The Walking Dead, and now BB is gone for almost a year, I need to decide what to catch up on next. I'm thinking The Wire, I've never seen a single episode of that, so that is likely my pick. I still need to catch up on a lot of this sort of stuff - Dexter, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Boardwalk Empire, Sons of Anarchy, and lots more.

I love how Hector Salamanca's symbol is To lol

I laughed at that too. Neat.

Oh boy - you're in for a ride. I'm kind of envious. I wish I could go back and re-watch The Wire for the first time again.

It's not top tier?

Not on my book.

The current writers deserve better opinions.

I'm not saying they're bad. They're just sloppy. Too many brilliant aspects of this show get marred by a tide of small bullshit that isn't done properly and doesn't do the show's potential and premise justice.

In your opinion.

I mostly agree with this as quality distinctions between very good shows is always a matter of opinion. However, what separates BB from the top tier pack like The Wire, Sopranos or Deadwood is the writing. There's no real way around it nor any way to deny it. Most of the characters are cardboard and some of the plot points are just purely incoherent and borderline retarded (the airplane crash springs to mind, lol).

If Breaking Bad isn't top tier than I honestly don't know what is.

The Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos, Berlin Alexanderplatz, Dekalog and Band Of Brothers. That's the god tier, basically. Then you have Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under, Game Of Thrones, The Pacific, the first 4 seasons of West Wing and some other shows which are incredible, and then a slight notch down from those you have Breaking Bad as well as many other greats like Rome, Oz, The Shield, Battlestar Galactica and so on.

One needs to remind oneself that one's favourite isn't necessarily the same as the one you think is better. For example, my fav tv show ever is Battlestar Galactica, by far. I enjoyed it the most out of everything I've ever watched. But there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that it's probably the worst show I mentioned in my post. Me liking it and how good it is are 2 separate concepts. One is completely subjective, whilst the other one is quite objective, to a certain degree. I mean, it's absolutely impossible to deny that The Wire is, aside from 2 or 3 small and very specific gripes, as near perfect as a show can get (amazing writing, amazing story, based on a true story, social commentary runs rampant in a good way, very nice acting... fantastic pace and narrative... it's pretty undeniable).

- EW.com: 'Breaking Bad' creator answers finale questions
Has Walt’s cancer returned? How will Hank react to his big discovery? Will Jesse return to the meth business? Below, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan (cautiously) addresses burning questions on a conference call with reporters about Sunday’s finale. Obviously, the following contains spoilers for those who have not seen the episode, but, given Gilligan’s cautious answers, is pretty safe reading for those who wish to remain unspoiled about the final eight episodes that will air next year.

That's still a very subjective list. I would not put Game of Thrones on the same level as any of the shows you mentioned.

lol @ game of thrones being on the same level of mad men

good grief. Not a chance in hell. Mad Men deserves to be in the same tier as the wire for sure.

Its hard for me to pick a favorite. I think my top 3 are Band of Brothers, Deadwood and The Wire. My favorite is Deadwood but I feel like Band of Brothers is technically the best. but then The Wire is also just completely mind blowing. They're all pretty much equal in my eyes in terms of quality...but picking a favorite is tough

I've never actually seen Battlestar Galactica, been thinking about watching that

I don't know if this has been brought up, but I stumbled across this reading the Detroit Free Press today.

SPOILER ALERT: "Breaking Bad" is back, and in this exclusive weekly series at www.freep.com, "BB" cast member (and Michigan native) Betsy Brandt and Free Press staff writer B.J. Hammerstein are breaking down the first eight episodes of the show's fifth and final season. Known to "Bad" fans as Marie (Skyler White's sister and the wife of DEA agent Hank Schrader), Brandt spoke with the Free Press about the stunning midseason finale.

In the left hand sidebar there are links to articles over the first seven episodes.

BJ: I'm glad Walt stopped by to give Jesse the money he earned. For me, it's their relationship and those ridiculous circumstances those two had that first made me fall in love with the show. Memories of the RV. But that also was a tense scene: Was Walt maybe going to kill him? Is that why Jesse had the gun, to protect himself? Jesse wasn't going to commit suicide, right?

Betsy: I don't really know about Jesse's gun, though I think it was more for protecting himself against Walt. But I just don't know.

I love Jesse. God bless him for thinking that Mike left town without thinking about why Mike's car was right there in there garage. They're such a great couple. And they are a couple! (Laughs: Sounding like Jesse) "Mr. White's not so bad, yo."

Damn it, Marie! That was Walt's car.

That's still a very subjective list. I would not put Game of Thrones on the same level as any of the shows you mentioned.

Of course it's still subjective. But the subjectivity when determining which show is best is manageable when compared to the subjectivity of determining which show is most liked. Because there's less attachment. ie your opinion on GoT. Do you think it should be lower or higher? Either way that answer will probably be determined by your personal like or dislike of fantasy. (in my opinion it's god tier as I enjoy both fantasy in general and the books it's based on, particularly, but for the sake of avoiding bias, I try to look at it without my rose tinted glasses and I think it fits nicely into that No.2 tier) For example, I can never even include Friday Night Lights into these discussions... due to my abhorrence of both american football and the whole US high school MO. It's my bias and I have to live with it, I guess.

In short, I'm left wondering wether you're biased towards GoT in any way or wether your opinion is impartial.

People should read this, Vince isn't as direct as you'd like but you can infer enough from what he says. If you're too lazy basically it's:

1. Walt likely means it when he says he's out, but there's still more show to go so you never know.
2. Jesse still going to be a big part of the show.
3. The cancer is back.
4. There will be another time jump to get up to bearded Walt.
5. Don't turn your back on Walt.
6. Walt/Jesse relationship is close to irreconcilable.
7. They're thinking carefully about how Hank will react since its the most horrible revelation of his life.
8. Writers are going to swing for the fences, there will be resolution, they know about people's expectations in the finale and will try not to be overwhelmed by it.
9. Walt doesn't have to be punished by the end of the series. Getting away with it is a possibility and a satisfying ending doesn't necessarily mean the best ending.

Agreed - GoT is my favorite show currently on TV but it's not one of the elites. I'd easily rank Heisenberg above it.

See, this is where the subjectivity kicks in, lol. I'm a huge aSoIaF fan, so it'll always seem a bit better to me, I suppose, mainly because it's such a wonderful adaptation AND also because I know what's coming. But I suppose you are right, yeah. So far, it still hasn't reached that point in the story where everything just becomes incredibly good. Season 3 should be the turning point. Book 3 is incredible. (Once again, I'm a bit biased here).

I *loved* this season of Breaking Bad, but I hate it when Vince Gilligan does that, when he goes out of his way to either explicitly answer questions about the plot or the last episode and even speculates about what this or that might mean for the future of the show or how they haven't decided one thing or the other. Makes me lose respect for the guy. You should know when to let your work speak for itself. I wish I hadn't read that post above. Only skimmed over the first few questions of the interview and closed the tab. Meh.

I don't think there's anything there that we couldn't already guess and there aren't any spoilers. Unless you just mean you don't like seeing Vince give vague answers.

ive never seen the wire either.. i also only got like 4 eps in to 24 final season.. which is better?
The Wire is grossly overrated, honestly. It's great for its realism but beyond that, it has a great sense of indirection. Even after it's all over, you're basically back where you started. No real 'results' or 'conclusion'.

24 is highly repetitive and no where near anything that could be considered top-tier, imo (judging the entire package and not just a single season or two).
