It's either this season or four, for my favorite. I think season 2 was my least liked, although I still loved it as well.

I also think this is by far the worst season of the show. Still good, but nowhere near as good as the best this show has had to offer.

Season 4
Season 3
Season 5
Season 1
Season 2

It's been a while since I've watched Season 2...might rank it higher. All I remember now is silly ending.

Season 5 has been great so far, but definitely not on the level of seasons 3 and 4 yet...but hey, it's only halfway done.

This season had some of the best acting, editing, and directing.

Michael Ehrmantraut is a great character. I prefer seeing him to Marie's house-buying scams/shoplifting or Jesse's house parties.

HOLY SHIT

Moments like these are going to be so awesome in Season 5.2

i tottally forgot about the plane cfrash crap at the end of season 2.

but if season 2 had a good ending it'd definitely take second place, so many omg moments in that season. very reminscent to one of the earlier seasons of gossip grl i think.

  1. Season 5
  2. Season 4
  3. Season 3
  4. Season 1
  5. Season 2

1 and 3 are pretty interchangeable for me, and right now I'd put 4 above 5, though I'm sure the second half'll change that right up, but I like this list.

So mine would be:

Season 4
Season 5.1
Season 3
Season 1
Season 2

I agree, but only since you didn't include "writing."

I didn't enjoy Marie's shit either, but I enjoyed Jesse's arcs. He used to have nearly full episodes and this whole season he must have had thirty minutes of screen time total.

The fact that you're even comparing 53% of a season to the rest says that once they're done, you'll rank part 5 much higher.

This whole split season thing is such crap. If you want to make a block of episodes and air them by themselves a full calendar year before the next block then they need to stand on their own as their own season. I don't really care if AMC calls them "Part 1" and "Part 2."

Mike's role on the show is what makes his turn this season so brilliant.

His only role is to clean up messes. He spends a lot of time killing people, and isn't called upon to talk that much.

Despite that, he comes across as

1) A loving grandpa
2) A skilled tactician
3) A father figure to Jesse
4) A voice of reason for Walt
5) A man torn between his past obligations and his present reality.

Now Tyrus was just a thug who stared menacingly at everyone. That guy had literally no depth.

tyrus was amazing, he was able to present a cornocopia of emotions through a single glance.

victor was just a thug who stared menacingly at anyone and tried to cook meth and got 20% decaptated.

LOL @ all the people ranking Season 2 so low because they didn't like the finale... 2.7-2.9 (Negro y Azul, Better Call Saul, 4 Days Out) is some of the finest television ever.

The movie will star Walt Jr. as he becomes the successor of Walt's crumbling Empire. Kinda like Godfather II.

Walt: Philip II
Flynn: Alexander

This season so far has been all the more amazing being how they crammed so much at a fast pace, yet nothing seems to feel "rushed." Unlike the editing of The Dark Knight Rises...sorry, had to throw that in there.

1. S3
2. S2
3. S4
4. S5.1
5. S1

Still the best show on TV but I'm not the biggest fan of this season so far. The pace is fast to the point of hurting the show. What has happened so far in s5 easily should have been 10 episodes if not a full 12-13.

1. S2/S3

I agree completely with this, I'm still enjoying the season greatly but it's easily one of the weakest so far. It was to be expected though, they had to speed up the pace as it's the final season.

One thing that annoys me though is that they wasted a whole episode on the ridiculous magnet story line at the start when they could've just made the excuse that 'the hard-drive was completely encrypted', which they ended up saying anyway.

If I had to rank them

S4
S3
S5 part 1
S2
S1

You can tell during S1 they were still "grasping at straws" for where to go with the series. Also the writers strike messed things up for them...but all 8 episodes was basically the pilot

random thought: A British remake of Breaking Bad would be the shortest show ever

lack of universal health care, the true villain of the series!

Just curious, where would you guys rate the show 24 in relation to MM, BB, BE and the other shows commonly discussed in this thread?

24 will never be considered one of the greatest; at least on GAF.

I consider it to be one of my personal favorite of all time; although I'm yet to see some of the highly praised shows talked about in here.

The problem is the show went for too long, and lost it's edge in the last three seasons. I only consider 6 and 8 the be mediocre, though. I really enjoyed the 7th.

It's a problem that doesn't seem to end with open cable tv shows; you could make a case for House, Lost, Supernatural to be top-tier television. But they all overstayed their welcome and lost quality in the process.

That's why I'm actually happy Breaking Bad is going to end in 8 episodes. I'm sure it'll end on a high note and it'll go down as one of the best tv shows ever.

I love 24 but still agree with you. I enjoyed the extra seasons but wouldn't have had a problem if it ended at S5. That was probably the last really good season, though I at least enjoyed watching 6-8.

The fifth season of 24 is hands down one of the best I've seen on TV. So fucking good.

If someone were to tell me what they thought was the best show of all time, I'd have to really struggle to hold back laughter if it wasn't one of these:

Sopranos
The Wire
Breaking Bad
Seinfeld
The Shield
The Simpsons

Or these, at least in regard to advancing the medium:

I Love Lucy
The Honeymooners
All in the Family

And shows like Mad Men and Deadwood are on the brink.

24 deserves to be grouped in with mainstream schlock like House and Dexter, in my opinion.

Lol, one of those is not like the others; replace it with The Fresh Prince and that's a pretty good list.

fuck seinfeld

I really wanna start watching Sopranos, but the fact that I know the ending is holding me back :(

Will watch The Shield and The Wire though, for sure.

I've watched them all except Season 8, and while 5 was certainly the best I enjoyed them all quite a bit. I particularly liked that in Season 7 they at least began to hit some emotional issues and get at the question of what kind of person Jack Bauer really is to be able to behave this way. It's not literature, but it hit some stuff pretty well for me.

I thought literally the same thing last night...I want to watch it but knowing how it all ends kind of ruins it for me.

What was the most shocking dead scene for everybody?

To me it has to be the one in Season 3 where Walt.... Heisenberg runs over the 2 drug dealers that wanted to kill Jesse. Holy fuck I didn't expect that and it left me with my jaw open.

Seriously. And it's such a shitty ending (well, out of context of the show at least.)
