Forza Horizon - Fall 2012 - Developed by PlayGround Games

How about letting tne 360 die in peace for a change? Its been out since '06
I can only imagine an open world forza, at 720p but with much more geometric detail, a ton of extra visual effects, in a quite alive world, with beefed-up everything and in rock solid framerate.
Instead, I know I am going to get a piece of software that even if polished, will have to cut corners there, compromise there, etc etc, and this will happen NOT because of lazy developers.

That being said, I hope mr Dan will have a new racing game to ship day one with the new microsoft console -whenever this might be- else I will trim his beard with a infectious hungry rat!

Never the less, day 1

No reason we couldn't see a Forza Horizon 2 on the 720 if this one does well enough. It seems better to test the concept on the 360 right now when you have such a broad user base.

I think its a pretty bad idea for this to come out the same week as NFS: Most Wanted though. Two open world racers coming out at about the same time? I'm planning on picking them both up, but still...

which do you think will be more successful?

Well that video shows the whole map. Smaller than I expected. That'd as big as like what, Most Wanted 1, NFS Carbon, around those lines. Will get stale quickly if I end up playing as much as I think I will.

I was gonna be able to overlook all the cheesiness about the game if there was a ton of roads to just drive around endlessly. But yea, thats pretty small. Not sure how I feel about this now. Certainly not a Day 1 purchase....

Play the demo at PAX and i went from meh to hype for this game. Feel very Forza as far as driving, graphic look nice (no tearing from demo as far as I can see). Less jaggie than Forza (probably because it can afford to due to being 30 fps but frame rate is smooth and steady).

I like that it's feel good to drive and you are not sliding around like you are on a sled that are typical of many other arcade racers. I don't care for interface ... it has that stupid X games dirt / pure style and to me it just very distracting.

Demo is very short just one car but I did get to talk to community manager about on-line mode. Unlike TDU, on-line mode is separate mode so it's not mmo-like but more similar to GTA style on-line where you set the mode. There is however free-roam and of course Rival Mode (Forza version of Autolog).

EA only has Medal of Honor booth this year at PAX. I was hoping to see NFS and compare the two. Probably because the company is about to be sold they are trimming all kind of budget. What a stark difference from last year where they have three gigantic booth. Over all this year PAX exhibit hall is more subdue, probably in reflection of the industry. I like it better however, more time with developer and more indie and more less big budget stuff. Feel like the old PAX.

Most Wanted, since Forza is known as more of a sim/hardcore racer. And when you look at videos of Horizon being played, it can't hold a candle to the kind of excitement you see in NFS Most Wanted videos.

I've wanted my open world sim for a long time now though, so Horizon is one of the games I've been hyped for most this year.

Plus, Most Wanted is multi-platform. Not gonna be able to beat that.

Wow, zero lighting effects on the car when it passes through lights in the tunnel. :\

I hope the cockpit isn't the same way.

Most probably NFS:MW, but I really wish that FH does well. IT's kind of a game that i like, great physics, and Open road. For the first game, it has enough road to drive, not as much as TDU, but then again TDU has arcade physics. There is alwasy going to be a trade off, at least in this gen. consoles. I would only prefer if there is more traffic.

Why I like this kind of a game is: After a stresfull day at work, and dealing with wife and son,I can just enjoy cruising with different cars, and a glass of wine and just relax with my brain off :-). For me It's day 1 buy, if the finances alow, otherwise it will be Day 7.

I don't know if you guys ever played World Racing 2, it was such a great arcade game, open world lots of traffic and PGR style physics, and great maps.

Quite underwhelmed by the PAX things, they need to notch it up or I am not sure I am there day 1. I need to see more of this.

I really hope FH is a commercial success because I'd like to see a sequel on the Nextbox, where the tech should be able to do the game justice. I can't help feeling that Horizon will initially wow me, but with a steep drop-off after a day or two.

Most Wanted has me Most Excited.

Unless they completely redid their driving model after hot pursuit, I dont see how anyone who likes simulation racers could enjoy it. Its just to easy, unrealistic, and automatic only. Not to mention the fisher price drift mechanics.

Well, there are people who enjoy both simulation and arcade racers.

To each his own.

But that game was just to easy, and all the cars felt the same.
Erm, apologies for not liking exactly the same games as you do, I guess..?
I think if you approach HP (or Burnout Paradise) as a driving game and you might very well be disappointed. They are not about driving any more than, say, F-Zero was on the SNES. They are about balls-out pursuits, big crashes and OTT racing, with very big liberties taken with the physics. They happen to feature cars, that's their only concession to driving, I reckon.

i agree but i do miss the days when NFS physics were actually good, like porsche 2000

You can definitely see Codemasters handiwork in this game, from the slick menus to the Toca style engineer/driver relationship.

Any idea on when we'll be seeing or reading some more media?

I need this game, like right now. ..

BADNED, do you know anything about the audio in the game, like if Wiswell had his hand in it?

RUF Yellowbird is in! Hellz ya!

You mean Audi? I don't know about awesome, but yeah, at least they can properly drive through a corner.

lol 4wd is boring as hell (unless you are off road), and is for noobs who cant handle rwd ;)

and its sad how just about any car topic that comedy show TOP GEAR gets brought up

The idea it's influenced by Assassin's Creed and Red Dead Redemption is interesting. I like his answer about 'maxing out the hardware' too

PR makes my head hurt for any game, but this is another level. I can't believe more than half the article was spent talking about driving to a barn that's highlighted on the map to unlock a car and compare it to Red Dead/Assassin's Creed/etc. Gah!

Agreed.

Venturebeat article said:
But Forza Horizon is not ProStreet’s spiritual successor. In fact, after a lengthy hands-on session, I would say Horizon is the game ProStreet should have been. The gameplay is better, the events are more interesting, and most important, it’s actually fun. While Horizon doesn’t reinvent anything, it’s now definitely a game I plan on picking up this October and having a blast with for 10 to 20 hours.
I'm easily counting on ten times that amount of playtime.

It's not highlighted on the map, the general area it's in is.

Only watched a poor streaming. They showed new gameplay. Some chases on the cockpit view with the Hennessey in an autoway and Evo on dirt. A little bit of night racing too. Besides that I think nothing new.

I think you just proved your age with these two inanely stupid comments. Nobody who has actually driven performance cars would say something as IDIOTIC as "4wd is boring as hell (unless you are off road), and is for noobs who cant handle rwd." Seriously man, are you even old enough to DRIVE?

Yeah, the Evo/Sti/GTR/S4/etc are all BORING cars to drive. You are SO right about that! I mean, I know your Cavalier is "totally bad ass" with your eBay muffler and PepBoys intake but you might want to actually DRIVE a real car first before you talk about it. Seriously, I want you to go into the Automotive Thread and say that same thing and see what happens. If you aren't actually trolling with your stupid comments, then go post the same thing there.

And Top Gear is a great show for anyone who even remotely knows about cars. Yeah, its scripted to hell and there have been some off episodes, but it is the best car show around right now. And SHOCKING, but a car program gets brought up in threads about cars. I know, I am as surprised as you are!

Blah, do not engage and all that...

The episode is up on GT.com now: http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/4zyxjy/gt-tv-media-molecule---forza-horizon

The GTTV episode also mentioned that the events start to pop up frequently after the 45 minute mark everything from street racing, showcase events where you race a plane or Mustang vs. Mustang races where the winner wins the car etc..

Also, all the Car Show talk reminds me of how much I miss Best Motoring. Any fan of Top Gear in this thread should check it out. It's more technical and focuses on performance though. (link below is from source allowed to publish the videos)

Too true man! I still have my old Best Motoring/Hot Version DVDs. The Drift Bible is still amazing to this day and I rewatch the RB Japanese Muscle one waaaaay more than I should. It is the reason I love the Mines R34.

Nice! Around 1:36, you can hear the dirt hitting the bottom of the car as it drives on gravel.
