I didn't think Walt was coming to kill Jesse but it's obvious why Jesse would think such a thing, lol. Walt can be pretty coldblooded, and he probably thought he was the final loose end.

But he just game for some friendly reminiscing.

Yea as the viewer i don't think we should have been worried about what was in the bag (unless vince makes walt do a really sudden turn) but Jesse would have been given what has happened and walt's reaction as of late (whistling after the kid got shot/was dealt with, offing 10 people just like that). Him having a gun ready was a clear sign.

Out of interest, when did you think it would air? I was holding out for Spring 2013 until we got the bad news.

Wouldn't be spring though since they like to launch in summer so late June-July would have been more likely.

Is there some sort of website or blog for BB that has lots of details on metaphors, symbols, hidden messages, foreshadowing, theories etc all that sort of thing?

I pick up on a lot but I'm sure there's even more that I miss. I would love to have a database of sorts to read through!

that page has everything about the show, just explore it, read about different stuff. You'll find stuff you probably didn't know or didn't notice.

OK, GAFfers who've seen The Shield: worth it? I always read great stuff about it on places like this but it never really comes up in greatest show ever discussions amongst critics does it? I'm just bored and a few weeks from going back to university, and want to watch something with more intensity than say, Six Feet Under or any of those shows I haven't watched yet. Is that what The Shield's about? I've done The Wire and The Sopranos.

In my own convoluted way I guess I'm asking it it's as fast paced as Breaking Bad - because I'm having withdrawal already.

It's more on par with BB than The Wire in terms of pacing.

It's certainly worth it if you want a crime drama. The ending is worth watching the whole show for. It's The Wire's angsty younger sibling.

It's actually a bit faster paced than Breaking Bad, but that's due to the fact that it's a cop show. The Shield was actually my favorite all-time show until Breaking Bad came along. I haven't seen The Wire or The Sopranos yet, but the old threads for The Shield were filled with comparisons between it and The Wire, with the consensus being that The Wire is more realistic, and The Shield is more "action-y".

The Shield also gets a lot of comparisons to Breaking Bad, in that it's got a protagonist who isn't necessarily a great person, and the show plays around a bit with the audience's perception of him and his actions.

Thanks for the info - that's all I need to know.

Sometimes I think to myself whether anything will ever be as good as Breaking Bad - I can't imagine that's possible.
In my opinion

Absolutely. I'm doing a rewatch right now (middle of S3) and had forgotten how breakneck and intense it is. The show pioneered the gritty shakycam documentary aesthetic that's now so popular and while it might feel overused now, the show still feels fresh and compelling. Great ensemble of complex characters, authentic use of L.A. like no other show does, and yes, the pacing is fast. I don't know what critics you're referring to but I have heard it put among the best shows ever.

Watched that 10 minute collection of this season's shots and went back and watched Half Measures. The Wendy Cold Open alone, man. I was so wrong.

Every shot of the entire series is the best shot ever.

Holy shit.

In that episode, just that one, the establishing shot of the shitty restaurant where Jesse and Walt get a beer, Slovis set the shot up so that the sign of the place is also perfectly reflected in a puddle below it in the parking lot.

I mean

It's just

I finished the second episode yesterday, didn't really "feel" it. I'll give it a chance because I assume it'll get better?

Finally got a chance to watch the episode last night. I don't find anything wrong with the ending, it was pretty obvious Hank was going to find out before the cut, but I was curious to see how. The "relaxed" get together at the White's was oddly one of the most intense in the series for me, solely because I knew there was only a few minutes left and SOMETHING had to happen before the cut.

From an artistic direction, this show keeps delivering. THOSE MONTAGES/TRANSITIONS. I do think it's unfortunate that the rise to power and success had to be rushed. I expected a little more time for Walt to really bask in his riches. But then again, he isn't in the money business. He thought he was in the empire business, but even that became monotonous for him.

I think Walter is slowly heading back towards his old self. At the beginning of the episode, the fly is back, which I took to mean that he could be a little remorseful for his killing of Mike. He's steadily realizing how far he's come (especially with the dryer in the bathroom). After cooking for three months straight and literally losing everyone he's been involved with (Mike/Gus dead, Jesse out) he finally wanted out too.

I can't find the post, but someone said that Walt would try to poison Hank, but accidentally poison Skyler in the process. I could totally see this happening. Something HUGE has definitely happened to him in that 5.1 flashfoward, and I think it involves Skyler.

He resembles his season 1 self so much in that flash forward, even physically. Full head of hair! And he lacks the usual confidence that his Heisenberg persona has had throughout season 5.

"Does it come with an instruction manual?"

It's probably the only show I've ever seen where each successive season is better than the preceding one.

Nothing tops season 5. Almost nothing on TV tops season 5. But yeah, The Shield is incredibly consistent from start to finish. If BB can produce an ending like The Shield I'll be very happy.

Anyone have a clue when season 5 will be available on Netflix? I saw the season, but I've relied mostly on other methods because I have Dish now and they don't carry AMC, but I'm also rewatching the series with my girl and we're by the middle of season 3 already and I'm just curious.

The Shield is a clear step below other top-tier shows in writing, acting, and cinematography, but I certainly think that you should stick with it. Great series regardless.

My guess it would be sometime before Season 5 p.2 begins, just like they did with season 4.

So I still don't get what Aaron Paul meant when he tweeted "Mr. White decides to teach us 'all' a lesson. A very intense lesson."..

what is it? don't fuck with Heisenberg?

Joining in. Finally caught up. (Started on Netflix a few months ago, now I'm up to date... just in time for the mid-season break.)

Amazing show. Nothing like I'd anticipated. I was hooked from the first episode.

EDIT: ^lol

This is days late and probably already stated but one theory across the net is that walt can automatically deny that gale gave him the book....People are saying Gretchen could have gotten him the book since she was apparently a walt whitman fan?

her initials are GB Gretchen Black.....so crisis adverted?
