The iOS Gaming |Thread5| From Zero to Gaming Hero

So for those of you who didn't get a code last time I went to Starbucks, here's a handful more Scribblenauts Remix codes! Quote to reveal and enjoy!

Kingdom Rush just got updated with a couple new levels, new hero, and some balance tweaks. Looking forward to getting back into it.
Came to post about it after playing a bit with it. I don't know what to make of it but it's pretty positive so far.

The bit I'm a bit uneasy with is that they've introduced an item shop (for one use items that make maps easier) and it uses a new currency (gems). The thing is, you can buy gems as IAP (that's the part I was wary of) BUT they give you a shitload of these to begin with, you earn more while playing and the existing maps didnt require them anyway to win. I haven't tried the new maps so I don't know if they're designed around this new ecosystem.

That being said, if the bottom line is that people paying to win are funding my expansions, I'm more than okay with it.

So that Clumsy Ninja game from the Apple keynote is by NaturalMotion, who showed off CSR Racing at WWDC.

Be nice if they showcased some new devs each time.

Uh, wasn't the new card game by Square to be released this week ?

Oh and thank you for the code nicoga, it is only valid in the US so not for me, but thank you nonetheless.

They need to change it back to using usernames instead of real names above anything.

Still not fixed. But you can challenge your friends now. Kind of like X360, but now there's a new area in Game Center that lists all your challenges

Kind of on subject: Why don't they tie your GameCenter account to Messages and make a universal way to talk to people on your GameCenter list? Makes a lot of sense to me, but maybe I'm missing something...do they not want to police it?

This Angel Salvation game is... very interesting. And utterly confusing...
Overall liking it so far!

Right now I really don't get how I am supposed to increase skill levels. The guide tells you that you can do it by strengthening the hero using same-attribute sacrifices. I did that several times and my skill level is still 1.

I noticed that friend's heroes I got in the party also have SL 1, so either it's a mistery for everyone or something isn't working right now.

Also, when I summon heroes, is that "7" gesture actually impacting in any way? I tried being fast, being precise, etc and I still got only imps, dwarves and shepards.

I'm also quite worried about money (actually more than diamonds): to strengthen a hero I need a LOT of it, and I'm not getting anything close to what I'm spending (using the 100k initial treasure). I hope it gets better at higher levels...

Lastly: does doing daily events reward you diamonds? I'm currently being assraped trying them at my level, but if it is so I see it as a nice way to get them shinies :)

edit: re-reading your paragraph, I want to add this. You can change your main hero (leader) with any other from your legion; I think that friend's heroes you see in the list are always their main.

You may want to try Jewel Dragon, now free too.
It's almost the same thing but with a really nice complete tutorial, less Engrish and...boobs.
I'm undecided which I like most :)

Well, the iPad version of Fieldrunners 2 is finally out, but its... $8. They must be crazy. I thought this was a sure buy for me, but I'll just wait for in inevitable sale in a couple months.

edit: Looking at the first one, it seems I might be waiting longer than a few months to see a sale. :(

Been playing it on the iPad 3 this morning. Load times are pretty long (longest I've seen on the iPad 3) and the game has already crashed on me twice. Looks pretty though.

I just seen the new design for the ipod touches, I am glad that they are using a more scratch resistant back then the uber reflective chrome, about time we had one with more power too even if it's not using the A6 but a dual core A5 from the 4S, it's all welcome.

Only thing I dislike about it is that the base is 32GB and that it's £249, granted I paid £229 for my 4g 32GB but there was an optional £150 model everywhere else, it makes me think that maybe apple are pushing luck a little bit too much.

I should also add that Generations will be 4inch compatible :D

Well, Extinction Squad's a fun, little game. Lots of crazy shit going on, it's hard to keep up, but it's chaotic fun. Just enough stuff to keep you doing the "just one more go" thing.

Glad you are liking it. Definitely a hard game for us to get right based off such a simple core mechanic, but I think the guys did a good job.

We have an interview with the designer who worked on it via the link below which might give you some insight into his process. He has also been working on our next game for Adult Swim which is challenging for all different sorts of reasons.

Two questions

1. What are the best looking games on the iPhone?
2. Is there anything similar to this available?

In my opinion, Wild Blood, Horn and Infinity Blade 2 are the best looking 3D iOS games. Bastion is the best looking 2D game (edit: iPad only though).

Infinity Blade Dungeons and Real Racing 3 are probably going to make to the top of the list though.

Can't watch the video, I'm at work. Which game is it?

Ok so Guardian Cross, the Square card game, has indeed been released.
Don't know a thing about it, hoping it's not iap crazy, will sure try it.

Downloading now. I see it has a paid contents of 20€ for a bunch of points... I suspect I will disinstall this as soon as the inevitable overly dull and uselessly long tutorial will start.

Yep same thing happened when I checked Jewel Dragon. Only iap is 30 gems for 18€
I don't know, maybe there is these very bad toxic fumes where the developer is based...
That you can't avoid iap in today's ios games, ok, not happy but ok, but that there is only one option and that it's 18€ is difficult to understand.

lol wasn't guardian cross that one with the pokemon like monster catching mechanic?

I recall the actual card game is automatic lmao.

Gotta hear some impressions before even bother wasting bandwidth on this.

Looks like iPod Touch owners are going to join iOS gaming again.

Looks slicker than the iPhone 5 tbh.

edit: maybe not? Yikes at those prices.

Prices are expected considering it's even closer to the iPhone now. Screen is the exact same, only difference is A5 and a 5mp camera. Incredible upgrade over the 4th gen. I might end up getting the 64GB version.

It's total garbage. IAP isn't this game's problem; the gameplay is. You don't actually have any control during battles, you just choose which cards to bring into battle. It's mindless and a complete waste of SE resources, at least from a gamer's standpoint. Of course, it'll probably end up being one of their most profitable apps.

Oh...than I'm not dumb.
I tried this Square Enix card game...seemed to me like Angel Salvation or Jewel Dragon, just without playing (not considering the dumb point and shoot minigame).

Am I missing something?

I'd pay good money for SE to release Triple Triad on iOS. They'd probably go with the Tetra Master garbage instead though. :(

Ugh Guardian Cross.

It's so pointless. You have your cards, and all you do is have your "deck" that you bring into battle... no choosing skills or attacks... it is all automatic. What a waste. It would be at least interesting if there were some cool animations or music, but there is neither.

Yuck.

I feel like I gave it a fair shot... played for about an hour and I'm past all the tutorial.

I wouldn't want that, but I would want a dedicated section within the app to be able to send messages back and forth, at least.

I'm no developer-but wouldn't it be nice if GameCenter could be multi-purpose and also house your game saves? That way you could manually export them and save them if needed?

This would be great. Tiny Tower did something akin to that, I think it had some sort of server-based saving (so you couldn't manually export) but it was tied to your GC account.

Grabbing Fieldrunners 2, and maybe Wonderputt? Looks awesome.

Game is pretty good. But when I turn up the res to native on my N7 it chugs pretty bad with action on screen. Also the progress is extremely dependent on purchasing currency. Takes AGES to get good upgrades unless you shell out or are incredibly good at the game.
