Wii-U - Amazon listing UK prices and launch date

I bet once Sainsbury's and Asda undercut Tesco by a few quid, the prices will come crashing down. Don't worry about that.

Do you honestly expect the supermarkets to keep their nerve and hold the line on such ridiculously high prices?

So are suggesting that supermarkets will sell the WiiU at a loss?

Because if you are you've officially lost the fucking plot.

£300 for the non-fucking tard pack? That is worst case scenario shit. No way. Hope for some severe price crashing before Bayonetta 2.

Don't get one at launch, just wait a few months prices will drop.

Look at 3DS XL was selling for £180 online at launch, now on Amazon for £158 with one game!!!

If Wii U sells like crazy were fucked though
not happening

If I had seen it in time I would have jumped in at £199..... Now I'm not so sure. :( I know it's only £20 difference, but knowing it was originally set lower it pains me. :-/

Tesco Entertainment have gone with
- £249 Nintendo Wii U - White - Basic Pack
- £299 Nintendo Wii U - Black - Premium pack includes Nintendo land
- £329 Nintendo Wii U - Black - Premium Pack includes Zombie U

very disappointing. i was hoping that the supermarkets would sell it at a lower price than game.

is it possible these are placeholder prices and they will go down when the other supermarkets reveal their prices?

The hapless general public are once again my mortal enemies. Desperate Nintendo is best Nintendo, they must be pushed further, for the good of all.

They've started updating the Amazon page for the Black Wii U to say "Nintendo Wii U 32GB Premium Pack - Black" instead. I think that means a price is imminent

EDIT: Looking like £264

:/

Where did I say that? Where did I even suggest it?

They won't get near to what Nintendo's selling them at trade price, but I definitely expect a price war. If MCV is right then they have about £45 breathing room between what they bought them at, and the current prices, with which to do some cutting. They can make some of this back on games and accessories, plus being the cheapest on such a high profile gadget -- especially when you sell more than games -- is going to draw people to their stores in search of other bargains this Christmas, whether it's on other presents or food for the season.

They have very a strong motivation to want to undercut their rivals when you think of it that way, even moreso considering the season.

Yeah, the 1XX to 2XX is like a mental barrier to me, even though it's only 20 pounds difference

Three or four years ago I would have agreed with you, but nowadays the supermarkets don't give a shit about gaming.

In theory that's all fine but in practice it's a little more shaky. This logic seems built on the assumption that the WiiU will generate a wave of Wii esque demand.

If anything I'd expect it to be closer to the Vita when it initially went on sale. Did Tesco heavily discount it? No. Why would they?

This basically makes my point more succinctly.

Of course they do. There were price wars for the last two brand new games systems (3DS and Vita) that came out. Admittedly, those were handhelds and this is a console, but I very much doubt the supermarkets can resist not undercutting themselves for long. First it'll be smaller drops, like £2-£3, but in the run up to the launch you could see the prices go down fairly significantly (upwards of £20-£30), especially if the public deems £250-£300 too much.

Oh that's funny, because I got my Vita for £199 on launch day from Tesco. RRP was £229.99.

If the Wii U generates Wii-levels of demand, then they've already sold their initial allocation in days and they have no reason to lower the price. If it's not meeting expectations, that gives them an even greater incentive to cut.

At any rate, I'm holding out. £250-£300 is far too much. Should be £200-£250.

And that Game/Station are seemingly the cheapest. That is really baffling.

Iwata agrees. He'd fix the prices if he could.

This shit is bananas.

ShopTO - Premium + Zombie U bundle is up = £324.85.
Looks like it's amazon for me then :)

Amazon are now up to £249.99 on the white unit.

Counting on someone to have a Rayman/ZombiU bundle. Preferably not with lots of other useless crap wedged in. Looking at you GAME.

These Wii U prices seem to line up with the prices you Brits will pay for the iPhone 5

It's funnier to see Americans crying over $299 when we paid $375 equivalent for the 3DS at launch.

I still don't think that we'll see the UK supermarkets discount the WiiU that heavily but I stand corrected if you managed to snag a Vita deal like that from Tesco.
