Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

WiiU, MH 3 Ultimate, MH 3 Ultimate 3DS, WiiU pro controller... there goes $500!

Maybe I'll buy a 3DSXL too. Maybe I'll buy every fucking thing Nintendo tells me to now because holy shit what incredible news!!!

Getting the 3DS version as I don't plan on getting a Wii U at launch.

I'm ok with no online, solo'd some of MH1, and all of MHFU and had a blast.

And this is a supped up version of MH Tri for Wii?

Sort of. There's 50 large monsters in this game (well, 3G, which is this game) compared to Tri's 18. It also adds in all the classes left out of Tri from older MH games, plus some other stuff.

can't wait for HD dung bombs

What's the point in even bothering selling the 3DS version in the West without some sort of online capability?

XLink Kai doesn't work with 3DS the last time I checked, and, even if the Wii U ripped off adhoc Party, you'd still need to buy a brand new console just to play the handheld version online.

I don't get it. Is the 3DS too weak to handle it or is all this to prevent cannibalization of the Wii U version?

More like, 3G was already out without online, they were working on the Wii U version so they added online to it but didn't want to go back and touch the 3DS one, and decided to release both.

3DS is an on-the-go system, it can rely on local multiplayer to get by in a way that a console release can't. Plus, transfarring basically resolves the issue preventing getting both versions... aside from money, I suppose.

No, don't give them ideas. They need to make one from the ground up on Wii U, fuck these up ports.

Don't get your hopes up. I totally understand that MH fans would love to play an installment with Dragon's Dogma-quality or better visuals, but that makes zero sense from Capcom's perspective; it would cost vastly more to develop, at no conceivable benefit (if not cost) to Japanese sales, and with no guarantee of benefiting Western sales enough to justify the increased budget.

I wonder if the Wii U version will be as sloppy as 3rd was on PS3. The UI on that game is atrocious.

On the other hand, they already spent a boat load of money on Dragon's Dogma for no real benefit.

What's another boat load?

It’s pretty obvious that Nintendo has sealed MH franchise with their consoles at this point. I will definitely buy WiiU when MH comes out but am still disappointed that I can’t play it on the Vita, at least not in a near future.

Hehe

I came back home like an hour and a half ago and all of this is a bit overwhelming. Props for Shuelma for guessing MH Tri U!

I think a lot of us guessed it. Capcom made it pretty obvious. Especially if you follow the right people on Twitter.

Every once in a while, this blind squirrel finds a nut.

I shall live off this for years.

Lack of online for 3DS version really bums me out....

I wasn't exactly planning on picking up a Wii U just yet, but was definitely looking forward to doing some hunting online with friends on my XL.

I guess it was wishful thinking to expect another Tatsunoko vs. Capcom or MH Tri "westernized" port job. TvC's addition of online connectivity set a welcome precedent, and Tri's free online service showed consideration for a different region.

It just sort of makes the 3DS version seem like a fluff purchase for those with disposable income or others willing to completely ignore one of the best aspects of the series if they aren't fortunate enough to know local MH players.

This is, of course, assuming it were possible in the first place. There could definitely be technical hurdles preventing everything from running smoothly on 3DS (especially when considering the possible implementation of other avenues for communication like mic support if text shortcuts and a stylus keyboard aren't satisfactory). Thinking about it like that almost makes it seem like getting online working would've been more trouble than it was worth to Capcom.

I wonder why the whole chat log and quick chat controls are on the TV and not the wiiU screen?

one line is needed for the TV to see the latest message, after that look to your hand for the rest.

Will most likely come to the vita of ps4 aswell. If not, I might have to buy a Wii-u........nevermind. One game does not influence my purchase unless it is of great quality....i hope it comes to the vita...

The port begging is delicious. If you keep it up, maybe a mod will get in contact with Sven and make it happen...

Now that the excitement, relief and happiness has settled - we need videos and screens with English names of monsters, box art, etc.

I just got home and I was packing some serious excite for some good news from the Nintendo event.

Bayonetta 2 - WiiU
Never played the first but that is surprising.

BLOPS 2 WiiU
Pointer controls are in! Yay!

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS
!!!!!

coming to West

AWWWW yeeeeeaaaaa! This is what makes my average Thursday turn into a surprise holiday with rainbows, sunshine and whatever sparkling junk you may think of to accentuate a great day. A new online Monster Hunter was always at the top of my most wanted list when it came to any gaming event that could potentially announce it. You took your sweet time getting the news out there Capcom. With all the disappointment and teasing I figured the villagers would have tied Sven to a horse it set it free by now. You're far from the perfect company Capcom but you did good by me. Cheers for more Monster Hunter!

It seemed quite a few people were guessing at a WiiU MonHun. I admit I was among them even though my evidence was a bit lacking. I figured Capcom would prefer having a western release on console with online. It is a sweet surprise to see they are going through with a portable release too. My money will be going toward the WiiU though. I guess it being a fancy port of 3G could be seen as disappointing compared to an all out original title that some may have dreamed of. I am thoroughly satisfied with 3G though. There was plenty of time to give up hope on the game ever releasing here and there was no guarantee online would be included. Almost missing Xenoblade and almost missing this really have given a guy like me plenty to get anxious over these past few years.

I hope the idea of Console/Portable releases becomes a trend. Obviously I need online and will be sticking to console but it is nice to have the option. I wonder if they will try the same with MH4. Ah but I guess that is a whole other bridge we'll eventually cross. There will be more empty teasing and iOS releases to shatter our expectations of MH4 coming over. We can cross that bridge in time though. MH3G is ours and I am a happy happy boy :D

Holy fuck, day one for me. Between this and Bayonetta 2 the Wii U is looking damn fine. Now all I need is Dragon Quest X to come Stateside and it will be Japanese gaming heaven.

Because unless you're looking back at the tablet every 5 seconds you're going to miss everything since your focus should be on the TV.
