Holy shit this is hilarious!
I struggle to understand why Nintendo, of all companies, is the source of such pure, venomous, seething, virulent hatred.
Sony being hated by Sega fans, I can understand. I can even understand console / handheld gamers feeling threatened by iOS. But Nintendo? What harm have they done to anyone in the last fifteen years?
Said it better than I could.
Do Platinum even own any of the IPs they have created, or are they all owned by Sega?
Honestly, an aggressive Nintendo that actually succeeds in recapturing the mid-tier Japanese catalog could pose an interesting situation for a lot of folks.
If you're multiplatform, and a strong Nintendo reappears, that makes PS4 and Xbox 720 occupy very different spaces from one another (based on the direction Sony and MS have been going with their platforms).
Sony has still been doing a good job of producing lots of exclusives for their platform, as well as having every multiplatform game.
Microsoft has, well, Halo and Forza, with a side of Gears of War. And Gears may not stay exclusive next gen.
So...
If you're not a Halo and Forza fan, what's more attractive:
A PS4 with every western 3rd party game + Sony 1st party exclusives and an Xbox 720 with Halo.
A PS4 with every western 3rd party game + Sony 1st party exclusives and a Wii U with lots of formerly dead and buried Japanese IPs and even entire classes of games + Nintendo's massive field of 1st party software.
And before people get too far on on the train to aggravation-ville, they should remember that the other consoles aren't out a month after Wii U. There's still some time to see how things are going to shape up before Sony and MS launch. I would kind of expect Nintendo knows this very well, and could be banking on showing Wii U has a difference before then.
We don't know how many publishers passed on it until it reached Nintendo. I doubt it was their last resort given they already had a relationship.
Poeple aren't going to celebrate a multiplat going exclusive.
Most of these seem like reasonable reactions if nothing else on the Wii U interests them.
it was clearly the best for them, and we're talking about a team made of many people who worked on an also fantastic but now defunct team. Whatever's best for them is best for me, Bayo 1 was handled poorly and we know that at least someone passed on it. I just dont want history repeating itself for these guys. No one's betting the farm on them so seeing Nintendo stepping it up is a good thing, at least for me.
Bayonetta is almost assuredly Sega's (which explains Segas limited involvement in Bayonetta 2 versus no involvement). Wonderful 101 is almost assuredly going to be Nintendo's. I do think if these game sell well it will open up Platinum to be bought by Nintendo.
Just think of it this way, Sega is strapped for cash. Sega also isn't having platinum games make anything new that I'm aware of outside of what other publishers are paying for (Konami MGR, Nintendo Bay2 and Wonderful 101). Nintendo can't just buy up Plat games right now though because their investors have them on a fairly tight leash over posting a loss last quarter for the first time in it's gaming history. However, if plat games gives them 2 best sellers the first year of the Wii U's life cycle, it'll be a no brainer for all parties involved. Sega gets some cash flow, Nintendo gets a new top tier second party, Platinum Games gets to work for a company that gives them the freedom to do what they do and a healthy budget to do it, and the investors will be happy because they have another gold laying hen in their portfolios.

It's a next gen system. But this [Bayonetta 2] is, as far as I'm aware, essentially a PS360 port.
Bayonetta 2 is scheduled for March so still within launch window.

Different situation.
Wii might have had some modern parts, but it's GPU was a DX 7 equivalent, with less versatility or functionality than the Xbox. WiiU's GPU is at least 2x as powerful, designed under a more modern paradigm. CPU's are purportedly similar in capability, with clock speed and FP advantage going to 360/PS3. With double the RAM usable for games.
In no way is it actually weaker than those two systems. Wii definitely was weaker than the prior generation in certain ways.
If the X720 and PS4 are also much more powerful than the WiiU, then the cycle repeats for another 5-8 years.
Um. No? It's a sequel. Hence the "2."
Bayonetta 2 is scheduled for March so still within launch window. Could greatly help its sales beyond what power the franchise may have to move on its own. Have to admit Nintendo has a pretty healthy launch window.
What if that new Monolith Soft game was a new Chrono sequel?Psst... Chrono Cross was Chrono Trigger 2... or actually 2.5 (radical dreamers was 2).
All you really need to make a good Chrono Trigger series game is Kato (head writer of CT/RD/CC)... but he's been busy working on FF14 which keeps him pretty busy, at least that's what most interviews said about him. He'd love to do more chrono games, but Squeenix never gives him a chance... The new Squeenix is afraid to look too japanese anymore, so about the only thing they still release that's japanese-y is FF games.
(edit) Ignore this mostly... I fail read <_<
Is that Rodin in the teaser?
gamespot says its set for march 2013
We know little to nothing about the dev environment for Sony or MSFT's platforms yet so even them words you agree with are rather premature and sound a bit silly at this time.
It's a next gen system. But this [Bayonetta 2] is, as far as I'm aware, essentially a PS360 port.
Oh, forgot about that.
The West cares about Monster Hunter?
Now Japan, it's major. But then console Mon Hun's didn't light up the charts as much.
I thought there was supposed to be a software blow-out?

oh i wouldn't go putting faith in that

If Nintendo with the Wii U positions themselves next generation as a viable option for developers that can't afford to make a high-end 100 million dollar GTA type game and still want to develop for a console, then I can see them having a good deal of success.
If they can convince smaller-medium sized companies like Platinum, Mistwalker, Atlus, Grasshopper, etc. that the Wii U is a haven for their types of games, they may be onto something.
Sega wouldn't get any cash from Nintendo buying out Plat, and they aren't having them make anything. At least as of a few month ago, they made a pretty big deal about how the the publishing deal wasn't going to be extended beyond Max Anarchy or whatever it's called.
Unless you meant Sega gets money for this specific game, then that is true obiviously. Just beyond that is all I mean.
nah, but it's definitely a Lumen Sage
I can't watch it right now, but if someone brings up the clip from the end of the conference, Nintendo should have showed all the games that will be out by March. I know p-100 was there, didn't see bayonetta but it flashed by pretty fast.gamespot says its set for march 2013
You seem to be taking issue with my use of the word "port" rather than the actual underlying point...What the hell? Where did they say it's a port??
Even if it is built on an already existing start they had for the game, it doesn't suddenly make it a port unless the game was completely finished and ready to ship which as far as we know isn't the case.
I know about Bayo being Sega's IP, but I was thinking of the other games Platinum have developed (Vanquish, MadWorld, Infinite Space and Anarchy Reigns), but I assume those are also owned by Sega.

Honestly, Nintendo apparently hoped to do this last with Wii. That was the party line at least.
One problem there might've been that they underestimated the potential success and rate of adoption for the Wii, so they lowballed the hardware. Had Wii been something more squarely inbetween Gamecube and PS4, with HD output, who knows; they may have gotten a lot more mid-range developers who shied away from that expensive looking PS4/Xbox arena and went with Nintendo fully instead.
For all that some have painted the current scenario as nothing but a complete repeat of last time, it isn't really. Leading software is still being released for the current generation. Nintendo is launching the next console using that as direct bump and to gain momentum with a different audience out of the gate. The new box is more in tune with the infrastructure (HDTVs) and environment everyone has transitioned over to.
I would say there is actually a window of opportunity here for them to build something, where last time the window had shut before they even walked into the room.
Holy crap.
I weep for this industry.
You're arguing with the wrong guy on that one. I agree with your overall point. I just think it's dumb to try to say the system isn't a next gen platform because of power. When it's more powerful than the companies last, and just by virtue of featuring 2010 and later tech more powerful than the competitions current.Just because it is more powerful than current gen systems that does not mean people will not view it as a different (maybe inferior) console simply because it might be much weaker than PS4/X720.
Again:
People getting a little annoyed is one thing but some of the reactions are extremely over the top. Nintendo is trying to be open to all types of games on their new console and this is a good example of that. The Wii U is going to be a interesting console to watch since the multi-platform games would be easily ported and exclusives would gain interest since some of those people who bought a Wii U only want 1 system to play all their games on.....
So bascially a PC.
Well the shoes had pearl detailing, usually Bayonetta's have gold chains hanging off instead. So that was my thought too. Don't remember enough about her outfit to confirm though.Ah word. Another question, that'sisn't it? So, that could mean that this story is about her instead of Bayonetta?Jeanne's All 4 One set

If it's a continuation of current trends then I think it will be very accurate. Obviously, Japanese devs are already struggling with current budgets, more powerful consoles and higher expectations are only going to make this worse.
