Actually that would be incredibly awesome. He gained the equivalent of years of real-world experience presumably overnight. He learned to assert himself, defend himself and how to deal with different types of people. He could probably change his lot in life pretty quickly. And he could write a best-selling book series and become a millionaire.

To be honest, JK missed a huge opportunity to do that for a chapter near the end of the last book and have it turn out to be a demented illusion spell.

No, it is just cheap by wasting the time and emotion of the reader and make the story unreadable in the future and the characters unimportant for the audience (why care for the characters, who not never exist in the story itself). It is just an inelegant way of through some "depth" into something, mostly because the writer could not develop something in the actual story or fans try to find some meaning in an boring, meaningless or confusing bad written story (Squall is dead). There is no reason for JK or the Fans to do that with Harry Potter, besides trolling the world into reading seven books and then laughing into there face with "it was just a dream". Never do that! (unless you give clever hints and it all has a point in the end, like Brazil)
