How do You overcome laziness?

German Shocks

GAF's Nicest Lunch Thief and Nosiest Dildo Archeologist
I've always been pretty lazy , but lately I've been EXTREMELY lazy and unmotivated for everything. Like sleeping for over 12 hours a day, going to bed at like 4am etc.

I've never been able to wake up well for missionary work, always super late and I get driven too even though it's 5 mins away.

I really don't know how I'll handle all the demands of my work this summer and I'll really appreciate some tips on how to improve my laziness as my colleagues expect high results.

I feel like it's partly due to poor mental health. I even can't be bothered doing basic everyday things and let all my "chores" pile up.
Thanks :)

Something like a chore chart, but for everyday things can help. I also found that when I was cycling every morning I was in general more motivated about most other things.

You are depressed. Been there, done that.

Get some Vitamin D3 pills, the bigger, the better. Open the blinds/curtains for at least 3 hours a day. Take an SSRI if you have to. Go to work or work on your yard/car/bike/garage. Don't watch or engage with any content less than a hour before you want to be asleep.

Some options are:

1) Accept your laziness and dwell in it. At some point the resulting lack of self-worth might outweigh your apathy and motivate change.
2) Do what you don't want to do anyway.
2a) Exercise. It makes other things seem trivial in effort. I'll put off tasks that literally take two seconds for days>go exercise>come back home and knock them out with no thought

Lazy or a medical condition? Get checked out first, but it could be a lot of different conditions.

Also, how is your diet? If you eat a lot of ultra processed foods then that could be the issue.

Maybe a bit personal, but are you overweight? How much exercise do you do daily?

If all the above is fine, then you need to develop discipline.

Mike Tyson said it best;

"Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but nonetheless doing it like you love it."

Wise words and ones that I follow. I don't like getting up at 5AM to go to the gym. I don't like walking 1.5 miles to the gym, especially in the winter. I really hate back and bicep day. I don't love my work. However, I do it with the enthusiasm of if I loved it.

It takes time. But once you get into a routine getting up at the crack of dawn just becomes normal. You just need to force yourself to do it first, and starting it off is always the hardest part.

Columbian booger sugar and six cans of white monster EVERY SINGLE DAY, also put some 80s hair metal on blast, you'll feel like you can do anything.

Make a list. Go to your notes app, make a list of what you need to do today.

Swallow the frog, don't wait, just say "I'll swallow the frog" and do it.

Ask for help. Don't be afraid to ask for advice, help, support.

Eat more and better, go take a walk every day and enjoy some sun.

That shit works wonders. I recently spent a long period of time without touching grass and it was fucking up my health for real. A few walks under the sun, some proper diet for once and I'm already feeling way better.

Also maybe try reducing alcohol and drugs usage. I'm on just one spliff at night before bed and I think I've found my sweet spot.

Brute force it. Eventually you will find you enjoy the feeling that comes from productivity and will seek it out again.

Thats what works for me. I'm a chronic procrastinator. But I get things done when I wanna feel like I'm not wasting my time

That's what happens when you're surrounded by butt ugly women nobody's trying to impress. Put one genuinely gorgeous woman in the room and suddenly everybody remembers how to act in hopes they might have a chance. You need to leave that community and find one with a little more motivation.

Depression. Don't take drugs, I had nearly gained 60lbs from SSRIs. Stop any drugs or alcohol, walk 5km per day, cook your meals, do some hiking.

Try to get some close friends.

Laziness is heavily related to depression.

I would try to see depression treatments that works best for you.

I would not recommend SSRIs, their side effects can be very serious and permanent.

Cut down or just eliminate any drugs/alcohol. Drink more water, like a tall glass first thing in the morning and stay hydrated. Keep yourself moving and try to eat a bit better. Look into vitamins.

You don't have to start doing all of these at once. In fact, I recommend working on one, then adding another once you've got a good rhythm. Don't expect instant results. This needs to be a long term solution, not a bandaid. Keep moving forward each day. If you have another lazy friend try to get them involved and hold each other accountable. Look into any local exercise or self help groups for support.

It's never too late to improve yourself.
