...squished screens, eecks.

Only three games? And they're charging $20 for it?

Yeah, I don't think so.

Maybe for Final Fight Mighty, that game was noice.

Played Mighty Final Fight on this at E3 for a good 15 minutes. Seemed fine; right aspect, nothing chopped; but that was on a GBA Player with a hot PR chick standing next to me. Of course, between doling out fat combos with Guy and her proclaiming my mastery while telling me she played through it earlier, I could've slipped into a testosterone-induced hallucination.

At least it's 3 NES games for $20 and not 1 NES game for $20.

Don't worry, Mega Man Collection has been moved from the GBA to the DS.

Mega Man Collection on the GBA is different from the console versions. It was going to have all five Gameboy Mega Man games. The first four had different stage designs and bosses from two games (Mega Man 2 and had bosses from MM2 and MM3, for instance), and the fifth game was completely original.

The Bionic Commando fully original game (not a port) on the GBC was just fine, thanks.

Fixed...the facts anyway. And yeah, that game was pretty great...except for the glitchy save system.

The games were going to be recolored too and use new HUD/item sprites (a la MMAC) but evidently the source code's been lost or damaged. Capcom should just throw the NES MM1-6 on a cart and call it a day imo.

No! I want the GB MMs!

The only thing I perhaps question was that the only ported these 3 games, when they possibly could have done a little bit more than that, especially in light of how the PSP and PS2 have certainly been granted lovely collections of their own. For instance, would it have been that hard to give us the original Bionic Commando and Strider Hiryu arcade games, as well as the NES ports which are quite different from them? I, for one, would have appreciated it. And Ghosts and Goblins seems to be audibly missing from the party...

And also, seriously...Capcom needs to just get Disney to allow them to re-release those old classics for the NES and SNES. I can't think of any one who would truly say "No thnx!" to the Disney NES games. If Capcom and Disney were smart, they'd be capitalizing off of the whole Disney Afternoon toons being released on DVD collections, along with the old games that those of us loved to play back in the day...

Bionic Commando, a somewhat confusing series since the first three games in the series (all completely different from eachother and NOT ports) all have the exact same name... Bionic Commando, the arcade game, Bionic Commando, the NES game, and Bionic Commando, the Game Boy game... at least Bionic Commando: Elite Forces for GBC used a new title, but sometimes it's just called "Bionic Commando" too to make things even more confusing. Oh well... awesome games though. The three console games are all fantastic, but Elite Forces is my favorite. Two playable characters, battery save, great graphics... it's an awesome, awesome game, and is my favorite GBC game after Oracle of Ages.

It is buggy though, though the degree to which it is bugged seems to vary from cart to cart. In my case it runs perfectly in a GBC, but in a GBA crashes when you go into a top-down mission, complete it, and then try to play a normal level; this can be avoided by, after you turn on the game (and you need to do this every time you turn it on) starting a new game, getting game over, and returning to the main menu and loading your save.

That doesn't fix the dark textures (darker than they should be even considering the GBA's darker-than-GBC screen), and it's a major pain, but at least it makes the game usable... and it's so great that it's worth the hassle. The Bionic Commando game system is just so unique and original... I know a lot of games since have used grappling devices like the bionic arm, but none have such a purity of purpose -- it's usually used as an afterthough for specific puzzles alongside a normal jump command, not as the central focus of the game. Bionic Commando is different and better for it.

Oh, I hope they have some form of saving in this... both of the GB titles have it (Bionic Commando for GB has passwords), and it makes things a lot more fun to not have to start from the beginning again after a game over.

I do too, MMIV and MMV for GB are quite rare and expensive, even today... they're also awesome games (I have I and have played through II and IV). They deserve to come back.

Is the Strider version in this game the old NES version or the arcade version that was released on PSX in the Strider 1&2 combo? I don't really care for the NES version, but I love the arcade game. IMO it's a purer action game, and, obviously, looks much better than the primitive NES version.

its the crap NES version...which is only good for nostalgic purpose.

the nes bionic commando and the gb one are quite sure not completely different form eachother. looks more like a remake

I loved the NES Strider, with the slant on exploration/adventure elements. Then again, it's been ages since I played it.

I know GBA has sold the most, but I would pretty much take this on any system but GBA. The resolution is just too ****ing low. It's horrendous.

Yea, that is going to cause some problems.

Famicom Mini/NES Classics was pretty painless overall... I think people would be more inclined to pay $20 for 3 NES games on GBA with a few missing scanlines than perfect ports on DS/PSP. Just seems to suit the platform and library better really.

As mentioned before though, I'd really like to see a release of Capcom Classics Collection: Disney Mix for the various handhelds.

Nobody's going to pay $20 for this collection on DS/PSP. It's just a result of the comparable libraries and capabilities... it makes some sense as a GBA release though.

OK, I understand now. If you are speaking specifically about this collection (of 3 NES games), then you're probably right that it would suit the GBA userbase better. Personally speaking, though, I would rather pay $20 to have perfect ports on something like the PSP (as DS resolution is still too low for NES games), than to pay $20 for a scaled-down rendition at GBA resolution.

To get this topic back on track, I'm finding it difficult to get truly excited about this package. It's a nice gesture that they're even making this, but at the same time 3 games is rather skimpy for a package consisting of just NES games. If they had at least 6 games on it, then I'd probably feel a lot better about it. Since we can't have "pixel perfect" ports anyway, more games would surely make up for it. Another idea would be to do retuned ports that address the specific strengths and weaknesses of the GBA hardware (like Konami did for Konami Collector's Series: Arcade Advanced--click here for more information on that), rather than just straight-up emulating the NES.
