Halo 4 - Media blow out

I had issues in Halo 2 and 3 with certain weapons sounding way, way too quiet. In Halo 2 it was the sniper rifle and the shotgun, in Halo 3 it was the AR and the the BR. They just sounded so wimpy and unsatisfying. I always assumed it was Marty forcing Jay to toe the line and make sure the weapons didn't get in the way of the music. No other explanation of how those wimpy sound fx got past QA makes any sense to me.
Yeah, the guns sound pathetic. The AR sounds like typing on a keyboard. The guns and sound effects are drowned by the music and when anyone starts talking.

New Cortana is def hot, but she no longer looks like a luminous being made of light. She looks like some cosplay chick who blue herself. Hmm... maybe that's the point.
Now, I'll watch that!

Remember when Halo 3 came out and people were like 'well it doesn't look as good as other FPSes because like the art style doesn't hide stuff and there's bright colours and open spaces and stuff'.

Yeah.

"When the cutscene ends and the proper game begins, it’s immediately evident that 343i has assembled a world-class technology team. Oh, you’ll know this is the Halo engine by feel – the weight and movement is decidedly, blissfully “Halo” – but to the eye you’d be forgiven for believing this is a fresh piece of next-generation tech. That’s not hyperbole; Halo 4 is a clear leap over any and all of its predecessors, with an obvious fidelity boost that has the game runing in actual 1280x720 resolution, which should please those sticklers who noted that previous Xbox 360 Halos technically ran a few pixels below the native HD specification. It’s sharp, it’s crisp, and it’s gorgeous"

Can't wait, this and a new Criterion NFS, it doesn't get better.

If 343 is able to pull this off on 360 hardware...it is going to be AMAZING what Halo 5 will look like. This is really a big leap over previous games, not only Halo. Pretty amazing they are able to pull this off the way they are doing it.

Good lord, I hate to be that guy but...why the hell was Bungie ever in charge of this series when 343 is giving us this good shit.

That's probably the reason why Microsoft let Bungie go without a fight.

It's clear they lost the passion for the series.

I'd bet 343 was in the planning stages well before Bungie even announcement they were leaving.

Oh yeah I remember Halo 3, but it was the jaggies, the everything-is-Mattel-toy-plastic look, weak weapon sounds and last gen animations that let me down. Lighting and scale were top notch though, as well as gameplay.

I still can't believe Halo 4 graphics. I just can't.

Come on you guys are harping on Bungie pretty hard now. I don't see how they lost passion for the series at all. They put immense effort and love into each game.

Reach and ODST beg to differ

ODST was crafted with love clearly but it didn't make any changes to Halo formula unlike other games, and it had some repetition. Still, my favorite (or second favorite, not sure).

Reach has more issues, lacking proper writing, and weak sandbox and gameplay. Music is not as inspired as before.

Both are liked by many but you can see the fatigue in them, if you look closely.

That they did, and I'll only ever harp on them for some visual missteps. The gameplay has been solid for the most part, and a cut above any other FPS out there.

Nutballs. Shit, piss and corruption! I couldn't disagree more.

343 is continuing to show me why I don't need to buy anything else this year aside from Halo 4 until March of next year or so. Purposely skipping on all of the other big guns this month and the rest of the year solely for this.

Incredible.

"In charge of the series"? They created everything this far for 343i to continue on with.

And lost the passion for the series? Besides the fact that there are still Bungie guys at 343, they didn't exactly have to build things from scratch. Yes, they did things their own way, but with such a platform in place to begin with, they could easily put their priorities on other things.

Can't believe the crazy talk that I'm reading here about Bungie, especially when they did so many innovative things in gaming today like the party lobby & matchmaking, replays on console and robust online stats.

Love the Metroid Prime comparisons.

Reach is my favorite in the Halo series. Still pop in MP from time to time. H4 looks to be taking that crown from what I've seen. Game from SP to MP experience is geared exactly for the type of player I am.

I cannot fucking wait! THIS GAME!

STRAIGHT INTO MY VEINS!

The only bad thing about the reveals of this game is that it's making me want other games less because everything looks like shit in comparison.

Even Assassins Creed 3, I'm finding myself struggling to care about even though I pre-ordered it. RE6 was terrible based on the demo...

I don't really want anything else this holiday except this.

Game looks good. It's confirmed that 343i has talent that worked on Metroid Prime right?

Also, Cortana looks like a sexbot more than ever now.

Bungie wanted to move away from the Halo series for quite some time. Halo was never planned as a trilogy, it became one for a number of reasons however. Things such as the success of the first game and MS giving Bungie deadlines when their team was not as large as it is today are among reasons as to why Bungie stood with the franchise for quite some time. It's also worth mentioning that the popularity of the series is thanks to Bungie. The main thing we're seeing from 343 is how they're building upon the foundation Bungie laid as well as bringing elements from the fiction and blending them into the game.

The very large team of well qualified people with various backgrounds and experience in game development also helps. Where as Bungie was a small group that grew over time.

I'll give you Reach but ODST was good, if a bit short.

I agree. I have been getting other games to hold me over, but when I mentally think about being in front of my TV right now, and Halo 4 is the game inside the Xbox, I just get nerd chills all over.

The hype is unbearable!

Between Borderlands 2, Halo 4 and Forza Horizon I'll be engorged with gaming goodness. Its almost overkill.

Okay, I'm curious. Why?

Went with it with a wrong attitude. Expected a stealthier Halo, with more insight of the ODST characters and what happened there. Found a way too dark borefest. Although I can see why some people liked it. I'm the kind of guy who didn't like Cortana level on Halo 3.
