Halo 4 - Media blow out

Plywood

NeoGAF's smiling token!
Went with it with a wrong attitude. Expected a stealthier Halo, with more insight of the ODST characters and what happened there. Found a way too dark borefest. Although I can see why some people liked it. I'm the kind of guy who didn't like Cortana level on Halo 3.
I meant why do you like Reach, haha. Also I don't think anyone liked the Cortana level except scat fetishists.

Needs more bloom.

Swan song of the bloom generation?
The AR has bloom.

Oh, you mean that kind...

If you see what you want to see in order to validate your personal view, perhaps.

I do not like Reach that much (compared to other Halos) so i may be a bit biased there but I like ODST yet i here too i claim there are signs of fatigue. Small things and signs, probably impossible to have consensus what caused it but stil.
And i'm not surprised really, working on same thing for a decade on same franchise will wear (some) people out.
I reckon we'll see this fatigue in Halo 6 when it comes.

What? Most people as far as i have observed hate Cortana yet like ODST. They're not comparable, they have completly different feel, different gameplay (the Flood is not the Covenant, simple as that).
Bad comparison. IMO.

Gotta say i expected a lot stealthier Halo as well, that did disappoint me in ODST.

I wasn't trying to compare them. Maybe I didn't explain myself clear enough. My apologies.

No problem. I just found the comment regarding Cortana in the end as some sort comparison.

Fuck Data Hive BTW, horrible mission. Why is it that one endgame mission in each Halo is horrible?

I was going to say that whatever signs of fatigue there may have been, it was certainly no worse than what you'd see from ANY developer who works on one franchise for that long.

It's just that whatever flaws people point out in these games, they're never things that matter to me very much. There's certainly undeniable stuff, like the weird "ghosting" that happens in Reach cut scenes. I acknowledge it, I don't like it, but to me it's so minimal relative to the big picture of the game that it might as well not even be there. Aside from that, Reach was fucking stunning to my eyes, still is.

The other big whine I always hear is the unbalance caused by armor abilities and such. I don't do MP, I haven't since the Quake III days, so I'm virtually unaware of these issues. The AAs definitely enhanced the fun of the SP campaign for me. I thought Reach had the best campaign since Halo 1, hands down.

Whatever, I've been all over Bungie's dick ever since I first played Marathon in early 1995 so I'm not exactly unbiased. I did acknowledged in a previous topic that Halo 4 does look better than any previous Halo, which I never expected in a million years. Big props to 343. Can't wait to find out if it plays as good as it looks. So far I'm guessing... yes it will!

True that. And i never claimed Halo Reach or ODST had any more fatique signs than other longrunners. Can see such in Skyrim, COD....

And also true that these small things don't necessarily make the whole experience bad, though this depends on oneself quite a bit, for me these things add up and start frustrate me.

The AAs worked well enough in SP but were too rare. Hopefully this is not the case in Halo 4.

They will now that they can't drop the damn thing and it makes them a walking bullseye.

its dumb. they just broke capture the flag. passing the flag to another teammate is strategy. the only thing they needed to fix was the people that constantly drop and pick up the flag. that could be fixed by simply adding a short delay to their movement.

Oh man, those GIFs are making me feel like I've neglected my Xbox 360 for far too long.

I'm going to make a similar question as in the Borderlands 2 thread: I gave up on Halo after 3's BS ending - would it be recommended to play Reach and ODST before Halo 4? It should be noted that I'm a campaign gamer through and through.

In story terms, both Reach and ODST fill in things that happened prior to Halo 3. Halo 4 picks up from where Halo 3's Legendary ending left off. You should play them because they are fun games with strong campaigns, but they are not 'required reading' or anything.

ODST is set during Halo 2, it shows what happened in New Mombasa after the Chief left. Nothing to do with Halo 4. Play if you want more Halo campaign.

Halo Reach is a prequel to Halo CE, nothing to with 4 either. Again, play if you want more Halo, though i'll warn you it has some stupid senseless retcons.

Co-signed.

I think he picked up the flag by "accident".

I dread it now, for sure. Opposite effect they were going for.

I know i won't be picking up the flag. Of course i doubt i'll play CTF (unless end up in it due to HaloGAF) but regardless, i won't touch the flag no matter how much i'm being yelled at.
Unless someone picks me up with a vehicle right away.

Awesome thread. The media's looking so good, hopefully we can play Solace at NYCC.

I am a bit worried about Solace because while it takes inspiration from Narrows, it seems to have way more CQC/tight-corrider moments than Narrows did.

Hopefully hunters act like halo 1 hunters and not halo 2/3/reach hunters

Those ones were perfection

If you forget how easy they were to kill. One shot on their back from the pistol, even on Legendary. And it was so easy to get behind them, even on Legendary. Probably the lamest scary enemy ever.
I did like their aggresiveness though, how they would bombard you if you didn't get in close.

These videos don't show much in the way of muzzle flashes or dynamic lights from plasma bolts. Maybe they went back to forward rendering? Would explain the full 1280x720p framebuffer.

Way too easy. Reach ones were just sponges, but pretty scary up close.

I'd like to see Reach Hunters, bit ala Halo: CE have a quick way to take them down with skill.

I didn't know about the Halo 1 Hunter weakness until I heard about it somewhere. Before that, I would just wear them down the hard way. I guess because of that, it's still kinda satisfying when I one-shot them in the back.

Why do I keep coming here, I'm sorta kinda trying to go dark!
