The BIGGEST meltdowns over game announcements?

I hope your not trying to suggest that some people are a bit up tight? :o
Tbf its mostly because Sony fans have literally owned one brand for ~15 years now; their the group least likely to like change.

Meanwhile MS/Nintendo owners have had more ups and downs/seen exclusives come and go; whilst MS is fairly new and with a growing userbase.

Barring mistakes, next-gen should be more everyone on the same playing field.
Its going to be fucking crazy

To be fair to the Sony zealots, I remember some gnashing of teeth from Nintendo fans over Final Fantasy VII going over to the Playstation back in the day.

Hold up, MGS2 was on the xbox!?

Only after no one cared anymore. No one seems to have a problem when an exclusive game goes to another console if it's 6+ months after it releases since everyone moved on from it by then. But if it happens at the same time it's rage time.

Hahhaha.

Given how that Wii Remote ended up selling millions upon millions upon millions of systems, dominating the entire generation, and forcing Sony and Microsoft to play a desperate game of catch up for half a decade - the initial responses are completely fucking hilarious!

Dominating the entire generation until the end when it fell off a cliff.

Wii? Sales-wise, yes. Otherwise, no.

Does anyone have a link to a forum topic from when Twilight Princess was first shown as trailer? You know, that trailer.

I'm wondering about this too. I assume it's because it was originally intended to be a hack-n-slash game (I think).
A traditionally console-exclusive series that only shows up on the most popular console having its main installment appear on a handheld.

Mainly because there aren't a lot of top tier Microsoft-exclusive titles, and the majority of Nintendo's are first party.

Yeah I mean, Sony was the only one leaving last generation with a huge line-up of third party exclusives.

I can't recall of the top of my head many PC titles being ported to consoles causing much alarm. Especially since the PC version tends to be the best, anyway.

Battlefield 3 is the main one that comes to mind.

There were even people who declared it would be a huge bomb due to it!

It's been a few years, so people probably forget, but I remember a meltdown happening when it was announced Shenmue 2 for the DC in N.A. was cancelled and had become Xbox exclusive.

And yes, I was pissed.

Ah, yes. The game that made me buy an Xbox(along with Panzer Dragoon Orta and Jet Set Radio Future).

Dragon Quest IX is still the greatest to me. Maybe not in terms of how many people were actually affected, but what it meant for Japan and home console vs. handheld gaming and Sony vs. Nintendo. I feel like the DQIX announcement was the beginning of a new era.

Yeah, I didn't understand that shit. I mean, you're getting the best version of the game, but now other people will also be able to play it on consoles.

uhhhh ok then, everybody wins?

Yup, I imagine GAF would have had a similar meltdown to the FF7 announcement if this place was around back then.

It isn't even about "graphics" per se. I don't see why people can't understand this. The best part of DQVIII is the giant, sprawling, begging-to-be-explored overworld. That is gone now, in an instant. No chance of return or expansion. I can only imagine and lust over how it could have been improved on a system like PS3.

I personally see this as pretty degrading as well... you simply DO NOT put your mainline games on a ****ing handhel... it's like you don't even care about it. It's unimaginable. I'm feeling super happy that S-E has turned into ultra graphics whores with FF because it ensures that something this terrible will never happen to FF.

That DQIX thread was legendary.

Also, does anyone have a link to the Epic Mickey thread, I heard it was fun

The thing with DQ9 is that a lot of people were high on the series after 8. The massive downgrade in terms of graphics and back then it was unveiled as an arpg it was just too much.

Just read the DmC thread for 10 pages and I am surprised how many people predicted the game would be on UE3 and be 30fps. Well I predicted it too so it wasn't really that shocking.

I can't find my posts in the thread but I remember not even wanting to be on the Internet that day even though I made plenty of posts. Profound sadness came over me.

The irony is that this gen nigh all the exclusives that went multiplatform weren't even that great in the end. I never played DQIX, but FF13 was terrible and DMC4 was pretty average.

So you've reached the acceptance stage? Haha

I think the DQIX thread is my favorite of these.

Um on GAF it was VF5. VF5 had like 50 bans in the thread.

Then it bombed on both platforms.

Fear of the game being held back by consoles.

That was a weird thread, man. Now there's just one BF3 OT in the Community section, and PS3/360/PC users all just...co-exist with each other. Playing a game they enjoy on their respective systems. Imagine that!

Could be worse, could have been required QTE finishers for all major enemies like some people said.

Never forget.

I agree that the Bayonetta thing is probably the worst I've ever seen. I don't know if it's because people are just that sensitive about Bayonetta in particular, or if it's because internet culture is becoming more insane.

Monster Hunter 3 is probably the biggest offender here. At least Final Fantasy XIII was still published on PS3. But MH3... It was first announced on PS3 and, in the end, what PS3 gamers got is Capcom's middle finger. An early announcement of things to come from Capcom I guess... I'm still surprised nobody tried to fill the void MH3 left on PS3. Bah... That's old stuff now.
