It's a shame that this story is going to spin out into the other titles again (yay dilution!) but if you're doubting Snyder then you're an idiot, the guy has done nothing but mind blowing stories since he hit the scene. Trust him.
I enjoyed the #0 issue tease. That's why I'm going to read it when it's collected. I can't afford to buy every good book. His cheaper (and creator-owned, I'm assuming) series is a higher priority.

Is his current Batman stuff particularly better than AV or Swamp Thing? Just about all the top talent in comics fairly consistently pull their punches regarding DC/Marvel work.

Yeah, I think Batman is the best thing he's writing, easily. I think Swamp Thing (along with Animal Man) is a bit convoluted and mired in it's own mythology. Pretty boring IMO.

AmVam is good but I don't find it as orgasm inducing as others do here. It's something I read in trade, and when it's done I think "That was a good read".

His Batman on the other hand is FANTASTIC. Starting with Black Mirror that was twisted beyond anything I could have expected, and then his nu52 run has been inventive, action packed, fun, scary and surprising. Great art too. I've been reading Batman for 20 years - next to the Morrison run, this is the best it's EVER been. There are no punches being pulled.

I fully understand the idea of a comics budget. But if you're sticking to a budget, then at least be informed as to the quality of the books you're dissing. It makes you sound stupid.

I don't think it'll be a bad story, just that it's covering old ground.

But you haven't READ THE DAMN BOOK YET.

Scott Snyder is one of the best guys in comics at the top of his game - he's earned the trust of his readers. And in that interview he makes a really excellent point - there really has not been a great, go-to Joker story since Killing Joke. I know this for a fact because I recently had this realisation myself while looking for decent Joker tales. The character has been around, has been a factor in a bunch of stories but there are very few JOKER stories.

So no, this won't be covering old ground at all. From the sound of it, it's building on past foundations to do something new and interesting with the character.

Robin 2 jokers wild is a pretty great joker story. You also got slayride, the man who laughs, and mad love

Seems to be more Death in The Fanily tie ins then Talon ones. Why doesn't have to effect the Titans?

Yeah, it wasn't bad. But it's over 20 years old, is more of a Robin story and it's not collected.

Slayride is going under my radar, don't recognise the title. Man Who Laughs was more origin-y than Joker-y, Mad Love is a Harley story.

The character very obviously does not have a magnum opus other than Killing Joke. Personally I liked him best in the GM run, but he's also excellent in No Man's Land and Knightquest too.

But for being Bats' number one baddie, he is underserved by good stories. He's a bit like Gwen Stacy - lots of stories referencing him, not many about him.

I gave this disclaimer before I said anything on the matter...

Oh in that case I should make future note to disregard you since you're prone to talking about things you have no knowledge of. Good to know.

Mad love IMO is as good as tkj and is every bit as much if a joker story as it is a harley story

I get what youre saying though. Sometimes it feels like joker and lex luthor (and on the marvel side, magneto and dr doom) have become supporting characters instead of featured villains

o_O

Wow, you guys are really off to a rip-roaring start this morning. News about Stan the Man must have everyone on edge.

The world could do with less Joker stories in the vein of The Killing Joke.

I can't wait for Wednesday--we're getting Batman, Inc., Happy, Punisher, Doop and the X-Men, etc. Fucking great week for Morrison and an even better week for comics.

On the bright side, we may get another chance to see people try to justify the use of rape to artificially heighten drama.
You know what would be an awesome end to "Death of the Family"? Batman's an emotional wreck, having gone through the meatgrinder of this horrific ordeal to stop the Joker's rape/torture/murder spree carried out against the members of his extended family; but finally, he's got the Joker bound and beaten and ready to ship back to Arkham for another round of therapy before his next breakout... and then
the Joker walks in outta nowhere in a Hawaiian shirt and says, "Sup Batsy! I'm back from my vacation! ...Say, who's that guy and where's the rest of his face? That can't be sanitary!"

Surprise motherf*cker, it's
Xorn/Not-Xorn
all over again! :O

Dark knight returns/strikes again/ all star swearing Batman/year one comixology sale :-)
You could have just said "Frank Miller Batman sale."

"Damn, Chuck. Hardcore."

I wish I was on a forum community like this one when the Dark Knight Strikes Again was released. It would have been entertaining to see the meltdowns.

I actually didn't mid Strikes Again. It definitely wasn't TDKR or Batman: Year One, but it was entertaining. Never actually read All-Star Batman and Robin.

You joke but that would be amazing.

Aw man. Only if I didn't want the physical trades. I've only been using Comixology for Bandette and The October Girl so far.

I like physical trades a lot more....unless it's cheaper otherwise. I picked up the Dark Knight Strikes Again for $3 digitally is hard to pass up. Also got All Star Batman #10 since it's not collected in the hardcover.

He's very very very old.

I don't know, he lived a long and incredible life. I can't feel too awful.

For Stan I'd have little sorrow. I mean, like you said, he had a long, incredible life and is loved by nerds the world over who will vouch for him if he has to do any explaining on the next page.

But I'd feel sad for those of us who had to carry on in a post-Stan world.

Haven't we been? I mean, Striparella is no Peter Parker.

I'm speaking purely creatively. I don't think he's really an active ambassador of comics like he used to be.

Got a whole bunch of #0 issues of what I'm interested in (Batgirl, Action Comics, Batman, Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and Wonder Woman). Still want to pick up Supergirl and Amethyst. Wallet is going to hurt trying to collect these.

Still trying to collect the Criminal trades too, still haven't read them. Local comic guy recommended it to me over Fatale. Any thoughts on Criminal?

"The best crime comic ever published."
- Me on the back cover.

I remember dick grayson in disguise as the joker and everyone else being arkham inmates. Am i misremembering?

It's just Dick testing some new disguise tech they created. Joker and his face-off appeared in Detective Comics' first arc briefly.

Just re-read it. No he's not in it.

Yes he was, 5th panel.
