Ninja Gaiden ::: What the sh*t?

Yea yea, eons late. I've had this game for months and just bothered booting it up and playing. And I've got only one thought.

Jesus ****ing christ the camera.

I mean... Damn. I've never played a game that ****s you so hard with camera angles. It's just disgusting. How can a game the majority of you bastards are so smitten over not come with a giant ****ing warning label on it about this.

I only had the tolerance to make it through the first chapter before I just said **** it and quit. I was fighting the shitty camera all the way through the cliff starting area and the Ninja building and it sucked. But the icing on the cake was one of the stupid little corridors, where there's a quick right turn followed by a quick left, so you end up with camera barreled down one corridor then the other and theres a ****ing badguy in the third just waiting to swipe at you as you step into it completely ****ing blind. It's like Resident Evil but five times faster and created by the ****ing devil.

Is the whole game this much bullshit? I seriously doubt I'll play through it if so. I know the enemies do shite damage and all this early on, but it's just the goddamn principle of the thing.

Holy crap this is what I was saying and people acted like I was insane. I didn't have the level of difficulty you seem to be having, but the camera is HORRIBLE for a lot, if not most of the boss battles. You get too close to a wall and it goes to shit. Alma took me way more tries than she should have because whenever I got too close to the pillars it would **** up the camera angle, and I had to take a second to manualy adjust it or move without doing so, and I usually got screwed either way.

I really don't know what to say.

Might want to hang it up and go back to Pac-man or something cause if you're having trouble with the CAMERA of all things just wait until the game starts getting difficult.

In NG: Black, the camera is pretty managable. It can be annoying at times, but it's nowhere near as bad as you describe.

Meh, it only bothered me a few times. I never played the Black version either. RE4 pissed me off more with its tank controls.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
The only thing I had problems with was the second boss fight camera. Before and after that, I really didn't have any problems.

The camera is troublesome at first, but I think it is most problematic in the opening levels. That, or you just get used to it. But I do believe it is better after the first level, as you are not going from little room to little room, the areas are more open.

Is this NG:Black? In Black you can rotate the camera yourself. The camera in the NG games is a pain in the ass but the games still own. Just get used to it something.

Err, yea I'm playing Black. And if this is an improvement on anything then I'm definently going to have to pick up the original just so I can torture myself.

You do know that there's both manual camera control and auto-center right?

The camera is only really bothersome in a few levels in the game. Unfortunately, one of those levels is the first one. Level two is a bit better, three is about the same as two, and from there on, the camera is pretty good outside of a few "memorable" areas.

Mastering the camera is part of the ninja training, you're not fit to become a Master Ninja. You should send your resume to a Pirate Academy or something.

Ninja Gaiden sucks. I'm sorry but it does and I don't care if anybody here says otherwise. I didn't play Black, just the original, you know the ones you guys were praising to begin with. The camera angle was horrible and I died many many times because i simply couldn't see what was going on.

The game isn't hard, it's just the devs decided to place the save points in the most ****ed up places possible which makes it hard. There's not ONE original puzzle in the game, everything seems to be ripped off from other games. The game has nothing to do with the original game. The story is retarded and the settings don't make any sense for the most part. A bit later in the game (the village and the cave), it becomes more interesting but the game is average at best.

For the type of game it is and the difficulty, it makes it one of the worst cameras ever for me. Some ninjas even throw projectiles, from off screen. Wtfffffffffffffffffffffffffff? But, it's still an awesome damn game.

Ninja Gaiden was one of my top 5 games of last gen, so yeah, it's ****in' awesome. I usually don't have patience for unreasonably hard games or games that are "broken" but this game is neither of those things.

You’ll get used to it, trust me, by the end of the game you’ll forget what all the fuss was about. Just remember to block.
Even on black, I play with the default system.

What does annoy me though is that I really can’t understand why they chose to implement it like they do, it’s not like they use both sticks for something special.

if he talks about books, you better damn well listen
The camera is pretty crappy, yeah. I recommend you try and get used to it, though, otherwise you'll be missing out on possibly the best game of its generation.

Is there an opposite for QFT? NQFT sounds kind of stupid.

What exactly did I say that wasn't true? Is the camera good? Are the puzzles unique? Are the save points in convenient places like before and after boss fights?

Im not even a hardcore gamer and I had no issues with the camera or difficulty. In fact, NG is in my top 3 for the gen.

Heh, that’s Ninja Gaiden for you.
I agree, the story sucks, the save system is stupid, the camera leaves a lot to be desired and there isn’t a single decent puzzle.
It is still probably my favorite console game of the last 5 years.
It only goes to show how utterly brilliant the core gameplay is.

How do you get manual camera? It's not in the options or control settings. Do you just mean the free look? That's pretty useless.

I think you need to click on one of the sticks? Honestly, the manual camera isn't very useful. The game moves far too quickly for it to work well.

You're complaining about the camera and you're playing Black? God, imagine, in vanilla the only thing you can do is reposition the camera behind you.

They're ninjas. You're not supposed to see them coming.

What camera issues are there to be had? Center it behind you repeatedly, it's no big deal. Top games this gen for me are:

Ninja Gaiden Black
Dark Cloud 2
Shadow Hearts
Devil May Cry 3
Xenosaga Episode 3

Next gen doesn't start until Sony says it does!

i had about as many camera problem in gaiden as many other games where you can only reset the camera to behind you... not many at all... in fact, when i played black later, i found that adjusting the camera myself only got in the way of playing...

Although I disagree with some of your specific points, you touched on one thing that really bothers me; the entire game (and yes I beat it on normal etc) it felt like the game was hard just for hard's sake. It wasn't like other hard games (offhand let's say DMC3 since they're somewhat similar) where if I died on a part, I was like "damn, okay what can I do better, or what pattern do I need to work on?" NGB was just like, ****ed up hard. I never got the sense of satisifcation from beating a hard part through figuring something out, it was just like the game decided to stop screwing me on the camera/random battle patterns/whatever. I still think it's a very good game, but I think it's praise much too highly. If they can fix the camera, some of the inane/make no sense puzzles, and give us same save points in the sequel, then we're in business. I shouldn't have to be set way back because they decided to have no save points in an area - that's not difficulty, that's stupid.

I'd still give it a 8/10 though.

you can hear them when they throw something, and when there's someone around the corner, the camera gives you a hint. YOU GOT TO FEEL LIKE A REAL NINJA.

Ninja Gaiden is an amazing game.

The camera sucks ? Pbthhh...

You don't even really NEED to see once you know what you're doing. You just FEEL the game. Play it blindfolded and just listen for the enemies. If you are NINJA, you'll understand.

FEEL the NINJA.

An overrated game with a terrible, completely awful camera. NG Black makes the game playable, but it's still an overrated game, the only thing it has going for it is the combat.

Is there a comparable combat/platformer game with a better camera? I can't think of any and I've played the usual suspects.

Really, in games like this after the camera is as good as it gets (and NG's is pretty good), you still have to make use of the center camera button _a lot_. That and (in NG) block often, listen for sound cues, and stay on the move.

It wasn't like other hard games (offhand let's say DMC3 since they're somewhat similar) where if I died on a part, I was like "damn, okay what can I do better, or what pattern do I need to work on?" NGB was just like, ****ed up hard. My experience was completely different. I learned to block and roll eventually and when I replayed the first level it turned out I had gotten better at the game, because the brown and white ninjas that had seemed so hard became a lot easier. (Then they added enemies that could throw, so I had to block less often. Then they added the soldiers with explosives, the black ninjas with explosive shuriken, the cat enemies that could knock me out of a jump, ghost fish, etc.)

Just curious, what other games with the whole DMC type combat have you played before?

If you played GoW, which seems to have mastered the whole camera thing, then I can see you being somewhat frustrated with the camera in NG.

But jesus christ, try playing DMC3. The shit you have to put up with DMC3's camera will make you appreciate NG in no time.

WTF? The camera in NG was awesome. It was one of its biggest achievements IMO. I loved it. You just have to be able to think in multiple dimensions. In other words, keep track of where your enemies are at all times, which, yes really does require some skill on the user. Had the camera been locked behind him at all times, it would make for a pretty boring game with pretty boring moves, but it's the camera that allows Ryu to run and jump on walls, or between them.

But you played the first level and quit? The first level is only 5 minutes long. You didn't even have time to get adjusted to it.

I feel the same way about people who say things about the camera in Sonic Adventure. Some of you guys just aren't made for these type of games. I never had a problem with it. I "GET" the way the game is supposed to be played. You have to "fill-in" your enemy's positions and speed when they are out of your view. In other words if I'm running towards an enemy that's in front of me and it jumps over me.....I don't have to turn around, rotate the camera, find it, then hit it. No. I simply jump backwards and hit. I KNOW it to be there even though I can't see it after he umped over me.

But if you have poor sense of direction and speed, you will never be able to enjoy something like this.

But then again, not everyone can be a ninja ;)

I dont even remember the camera being an issue. Probably cause I had beaten Shinobi and DMC right before I played Ninja Gaiden.

Yes, too bad there is hardly any combat at all in that game.
The rhythm based mini games, dialog trees, and simulation pet raising parts really bog down the game.
If only it was combat heavy...

Wow. I did not have any camera problems at all. Is Black's camera that much better? I mean, sure, the game was hard, but I never thought it was the camera's fault.
