The iOS Gaming |Thread5| From Zero to Gaming Hero

Just got an iPhone 4. What was that one rhythm game a lot of you guys really liked several months ago? It didn't have a rock band/guitar hero note tapping look to it, but it looked amazing and I made a mental not to get it. Sorry I can't provide more detail. I just kind of remember it may have been a space like environment and you were flying on a line or something.

Argh! I can't really remember any of it, lol. I'd probably recognize the name if anybody knew, though.

I know this is super late but I'm pretty sure that you're thinking of Groove Coaster (the best iOS music game).

New iPhone 5 "issue": swiping off the screen for non-1136x640 games. Man.. :P

Peculiar issue since there isn't any tactile border on the non iPhone 5 screen to begin with but somehow one manages to mentally conjure up this fictitious "swipe-able area" based on the screen dimension under the glass which doesn't correspond to what the app underneath is displaying.
Yep, this sucks. I've had to stop playing Run Roo Run, because I want to tap the far left-hand corner of the screen to make him jump. Even tapping the virtual border of the screen causes me to whiff, so I'll wait for iPhone 5 support.

Ok that is ridiculous that we now have LTE that is faster than internet at home and they still have the 50mb limit for over the air app downloading.

Has anyone checked out Kirin Wars yet?
It kind of sort of reminds me of Fire Emblem?
Maybe?

Haven't tried.
But yes, you're on the right track...the dev described it as a sort of cross between Fire Emblem and Langrisser; as well as a work in progress :

http://forums.toucharcade.com/showpost.php?p=2459394&postcount=3

The game is a definite mixture of Fire Emblem gameplay, and an older version of Genesis TBS games that had the name Langrisser. Essentially not only do you have your heroes, but their class defines what units they bring into play with them and you can command them all.

This is our first shot at a strategy/RPG and we'll be the first to admit it's a little bit work in progress. We've got another update for some bugs we found in level 4+ coming out next week, but there are a total of 15 levels and each one is about a half hour+ of gameplay.

So please if you or anyone else has feedback we'd love to hear it, because we're planning out our improvements for this game for the next few months. One big one obviously is a revamped UI for universal sizing, as well as some better indicators for EXP gain and ability effects/lingering effects on units/commanders, etc.

Best,

Zephyr Games

super monsters...
super monsters is soooo goooood

Just killed a 115 million run, only Wario is ahead of me on my Leaderboard YAYUH YAYUH

THEY CALL ME HOLLYWOOD

Has anybody heard tell of an iOS FTL port? Love the game on Steam and have to think it would be great on a touchscreen.

Star Command seems similar in nature, albeit with a slightly different focus (oh shit that might be out soon!).

I haven't heard anything about the FTL guys looking at mobile platforms, though I would be interested in the possibility as well.

Is FIFA 13 worth getting for the online play?

Also what were today's Phoenix Wright news?

I'm thinking of going on a little iOS spray, good or bad?:

- The Last Express
- FIFA 13
- Rayman Jungle Run
- The Room
- Minecraft: Pocket Edition
- NOVA 3

Suggestions? I'm on iPhone 5.

178 Million, with only Wario's ridiculous 550 mil ahead of me.

On the global leaderboards for Super Monsters Ate My Condo, Wario was always above me, mocking me. Now I just hit 888.13 Million, which still only puts me at 113th in the world.

I know people seem to be complaining about the IAP, but I've been completely unaffected by them. Honestly, the boosts and hats give the game a bit more structure. There's a bit more at stake for every individual match as you not only push for high score but for coins as well (which the game is pretty generous in giving out).

I know. Having Wario on my friends list makes me feel ridiculously inadequate . The guy is a freaking machine. Not only at the top of my friends list, but usually one of the top players world wide.

All good except NOVA3 is a bit weak, swap it for Modern Combat 3, and Minecraft is way better on PC if you have the option to play it on PC instead.

I would hold off on NOVA. It runs really bad at the moment. I'm sure it'll get patched to creamy goodness status later, but it's decidedly chunky soy butter ATM.

I got Modern Combat 3 but I'm looking for games with voice chat and NOVA 3 just got that. Also, I would rather play games on iOS than PC. Thanks for feedback. :)

I'll keep away from NOVA3. Other games with video or voice chat?

It's surprising to me more haven't done these features seing most iOS devices have microphones and cameras.

MFers why do I come into this thread?? I always end buying games that I hardly play. :P This time it's Groove Coaster.

Play it then ffs!

I don't understand this obsession with adding games to a backlog. Just play what you got, buy more if you need more. It's not like they're going anywhere, they'll be there later when you're ready.

- The Last Express - really good as long as you're not a total graphics horse. Dark10x would have an epileptic fit if he played it.
- FIFA 13 - it's football, I dunno. Heringer likes it (at least I think it was him - one of those dudes that likes the Fling)
- Rayman Jungle Run - pretty good stuff
- The Room - fucking amazeballs. Might suck on the phone though, it's an iPad game through and through
- Minecraft: Pocket Edition - shitty gimped port. Buy it only if you're really into just building
- NOVA 3 - gameloft shooter

YMMV but I really don't see the attraction of voice chat on an iOS game. Just make a phone call if you're lonely :P

I think The Room is iPad only, actually.

Out of those games listed I would recommend The Room, Rayman and FIFA 13. Haven't played The Last Express yet.

I got iPad too, so it's alright.

But they also updated Minecraft with a bunch of stuff like crafting and enemies that would come to hunt you at night. But I guess I'll wait.

Despite many negative comments about the game (and many stellar reviews tough) I was literally blown away by God of Blades.
It's like all my youth dreaming about scifi and fantasy where condensed by Boris Vallejo in a game.
It's a tad easy (till the bosses anyway) but boys, it's gorgeous.
Will post other impressions tomorrow, after more hours under the belt.

Literally?

Junk Jack is MILES better than minecraft. It's more like Terraria than minecraft though, for better or worse. (Personally, I like Terriara more than minecraft, but Junk Jack is DEFINITELY the better iOS game than minecraft.)

Yes, if you want Minecraft on iOS, get Junk Jack. Skip Minecraft: PE.

Disappointed that they weren't talking about Phoenix Wright, but this game looks fucking GREAT. Wonder about the strategy elements, but it reminds me of an old adventure game in a way.

Is everyone watching the same trailer as me? I was shocked at how atrocious it looked. Maybe my mistake was going in expecting it to be somewhat similar to Phoenix Wright. Pimp your flat to gain skills? Blech. The actual court scenes seem to be just throwing the skills you unlock at the witnesses/evidence to "defeat" them. Based on that trailer I would be shocked if there was any puzzle solving or critical thinking required. I'd love to be proven wrong come October 11th, but everything about it rubbed me the wrong way.

You're not alone. It doesn't look good at all.

Great presentation, dull gameplay. Very much on the style over substance side. :/

Bought an Ipad2 today for cheap. Any good shmups I can get off the Store?

iPad res:
Shogun
Phoenix HD
Dodonpachi Resurrection HD
Espgaluda II HD

Non iPad res:
Dodonpachi Blissful Death
Bug Princess
Bug Princess 2
Bug Princess 2 Black Label
Deathsmiles

My favorite is BP2 Black Label. Shogun and Phoenix are the only non-Cave shmups I play, and they're pretty good.
Edit: some of the lower res games are actually universal apps but they have iPhone or sub-iPhone res assets. The "HD" games have much better assets and look particularly great on iPad 2.

My favorite shooter of the bunch is Bug Princess 2. Black Label is probably a better game, but I can't hardly tell the difference most of the time, and the "upgrade" doesn't seem to justify double the cost.

Emphasis on 'looks', I'm not even sure what kind of game its trying to be, but I think it has fantastic presentation. Eh, we'll see.

So I'm liking the iPhone 4. Not a huge fan of the OS and app store and what not (I feel like I can't do anything and have no options, coming from an S3), but the selection of apps and games are fantastic. One question, though, is there a way to not have it ask for your password almost every time you make a purchase? Just like something to opt out of it (I have it where you have to enter a pass code to open the iPhone anyway, so I'm not worried about it it not asking for the password).

You can make it so it only asks every 15 mins or something, its in the settings somewhere

My iPhone is jailbroken and there's a tweak that prevents it from asking everytime.

Got a new Iphone 4s. Considering I was using a flip phone this year its quite the improvement haha.

Loaded up a $15 itunes gift card.

My question: Infinity Blade 1 or 2? I want to be able to follow the story etc.

Any other game suggestions, I'm all ears!

You might want to go back and re-read my posts in the RB Blitz thread, as you are mistaken.
Sorry about that, I was talking about the discussion on P1P though, I haven't read the thread on the game.

What's the best way to get some GAFfers on my friends list? Do people still check that list or should I just add people myself? I'd like to have some scores to compare to outside the global leaderboards but my friends with Apple devices just play free crap/ Angry Birds/ other games I'm not interested in.

Edit: Figure I won't get in trouble for this even though there is the list in the OP: My GC username is Dinner Cat, add me if you please. I'm not playing too many new games right now, kind of playing catch up on cool looking stuff after not having an iOS device for a while, but generally I keep up on new score attack games.
